I used to collect jakks MOC for potential resale value but as my collection grew it became a nightmare to store everything. When Mattel rolled out I sold off all of my jakks for retail value or more and started collecting loose. Best things about collecting loose are being able to display, customize and add accessories, not to mention the space saved. I have a small display of around 40 figures and my additional figures and parts packed in a small trunk now that I can neatly store away.

For me personally I buy two of each figure I really like. Ive heard of figures falling off shelves or being picked up after a long time and breaking. I want some back ups and the packaging looks cool. I collect mostly loose, but when I tear one open its a quick burn high. Like a sugar rush. If I keep them sealed for awhile I have figures to open and mess with when theres gaps of nothing new out. Also if I did need to pay for an emergency, its easier to sell unopened figures than dusty ones that may be missing paint or accessories. this!

There's many reasons, here's a few:
-They like how it looks MOC -Preservation -Get it signed -To hang -Worth more if intended to sell in the future
I personally display em both ways and with some figures I buy two, one to keep MOC and the other to display loose

I collect both loose and Moc. If it's a figure I really like than I will buy 2. The MOC ones are the ones I try to get autographed. Otherwise I open and display them. The problem im having is that my moc collection is taking up way too much space so I have no choice but to start opening most of my figures.

I collect MOC because I feel like the packaging is part of the art.

Me personally just like the look of them moc, plus I'd rather have a sig on a figure rather a pic or poster. And if I'm not going to play with them why open them

I'm a little bit of both. I sometimes buy extras too just to keep MOC.
Some figures just look better MOC.

I have about 50 or more MOC figures. Mostly 1 of 1,000s from earlier in the line. Nothing wrong with some variety

So here's my question, for those who collect as above. What's "just in case" or "back up" about? Like, I get 1 on card and 1 loose. I get that. Past that, I don't get anything else unless the thought is to outright flip. Not saying that's what you guys are doing, I just can't break down a logical reason for more than 2 (and I only buy 1, loose, throw the box away.)
What's "back up" though for real? Do you live somewhere that damage to your MOC display is actually a real threat? Are you concerned of spontaneous combustion? Do you own 50 cats who have a passion for pro wrestling and want to shred them open to play? What's the deal?

Let me try to decipher this 1 loose/loose display, ok 1 MOC/MOC display, ok but what are the other 2 MOCs for? One to hide and the "just in case" is for just in case you can't find the one you hid???
