If I had to come up with rules based on what I actually do, they would be this:
~Only buy elites unless a basic has a head I want. (like the upcoming Sid Justice) ~Buy figures representative of guys I liked when I watched wrestling (late 89 to early 99) ~Buy a figure, not matter who it is, if I think he would look really cool on my shelf (like Umanga)
That's pretty much it.

1. Buy Elites and Basics that I want, because I don't discriminate.

Do I like the wrestler? If yes, buy. If no, don't buy.

1: elite style only
2: must be wrestlers and attires from 1988-1992 , small exceptions for 1987 and 1993 but I focus on golden age so I don't buy anyone who wasn't very relevant in that timeframe. Yokozuna debuted in 92 but I don't have him as he was at the top of his game around 93/94 and debuted at the end of my collecting limit.
This rule is just preference. I did not like most of the new gen era and I watched religiously from 88-92 so I want my display to represent that
3. Only one of each wrestler except randy savage and a few doubles I end up with that I haven't sold yet

1. Basics of everyone 2. Only DM and an occasional elite if need be ( I got balor and before that the last was the elite LOD) 3. No more than £10 over retail 4. Only one of each unless there's a character change or a really cool attire 5. Try not to spend too much (no more than £60 per month) 6. Have fun collecting

1. One figure per character. 2. Only collect figures from my favorite era.
I like to collect TMNT, Batman, Star Wars and Power Rangers among others and not just WWE. I don't have much space or much money. Using these two rules has really helped me to start a collection that is somewhat diverse, and it has removed so much stress from my favorite hobby.

Apart from Austin,Taker,Rock,Triple H and Michaels I have a 'one of each guy' rule When I get the three members of New Day in elite form for example, I will sell my previous singles versions of them. I have the three members of The Shield, so I won't get them in their singles attire.Gimmick/name change is OK if they're completely different. (123 Kid/X-pac, Stardust/Cody Rhodes, JBL/Bradshaw, Mankind/Cactus Jack Godfather/Papa Shango. I have strongly been considering selling everybody who debuted after 2001. We'll see. I have the 3 sets of these guys (Shield #1, Shield #2, individuals) so no getting the likes of Elite 41 Ambrose and any other Reigns or Rollins unless it is a much better version of he one I already have.

1. WCW Nitro Era figures are a must 2. Any and all surfer Sting figures 3. Elite in most cases, but basic if it fits rules 1, 2, or I'm in a pinch. 4. Keep current product guys limited to indy guys that I really like.

I only buy figures of Englishmen, superstars/divas I like, am entertained by, or at the very least have an interest in watching. I'll only buy a figure of someone I don't care about, if they've got tattoos - see Reigns, the Usos and the upcoming Corbin basic, and if Bayley's tattoos had been visible, I would've bought her too, but they're not, so I didn't. I only bought the wee-l-c battle pack, because I wanted a tatted up Hornswoggle. Same tattoo rule goes for the McFarlane NBA sportpicks and the NFL ones, if they're not a Patriot. The same rule also used to apply to the JAKKS and Round 5 UFC figures.
