Was that the finalized agreement? Thought he was to have the highest AAV to boot. It would be, right? That's $32.5 million on average. Although I figure Harper will surpass it. That's the highest AAV for a position player. Zack Greinke has the highest AAV overall at $34.4 million

WELCOME TO PHILADELPHIA, BRYCE ARON MAX HARPER!!!! 13 years, $330M. NO OPT OUTS!!! Terrible contract. They shouldve saved the money for Mike Trout after 2020.

Philly will be booing Harper before the end of May. He will strike out with the winning run on base, get hurt or walk to first on a grounder and they will be all over him.

They have one of, if not the, richest TV contracts in all of baseball. There's still PLENTY of money for an FA Mike Trout. That's if he even hits FA. LAA could extend him - not likely - or trade him to get something for him instead of allowing him to walk away and we'd never even see a chance at getting him. When an all-star, former MVP, and possible Hall Of Famer goes to free agency, and you have the kind of money the Phillies have, you don't let them pass by without even so much as trying.

The lack of opt outs is just weird.

Okay, I hear what you're saying. He's a top level talent, that rarely comes along. His 25 AAV is actually not bad, considering that Arenado is getting 32.5 and salaries will only go up. Couple that with the available cash to throw around, Philly could be dominant for the next 5 years maybe? Basing that off an emerging young core and the fall of pretty much every other NL team. Competition is actually pretty low it seems. My issue with this is no-trade (can always be waived, but still), and the LENGTH. Manny only got 10 years and it takes him to the end of his career, realistically speaking. Harper, while maybe a great athlete, is going to be 40 by the time this is done? That would concern me as a fan. If they win in the next 3-4 years, then you're stuck with him for another 8/9. Just doesn't make sense. Plus, Manny is better, plays better defense and a better position. Oh well, it will be fun to see them be relevant again. Good luck Atlanta.

enjoy Bryce Philly.....thats a crapton of cash for a guy. hope it pans out, but i feel like you're gonna seriously regret that contract in 7-8 years It's a very team friendly deal at 25 and change per. He's a Phillie for life and I'm certainly happy with the length. He's 26. Of the 13 years, I'd bet on 9 being good to great. As a friend told me, by the end, DH will be in the NL as well and he'll be a great DH at that time.

Bryce Harper is going to wear #3 with the Phillies. They are probably retiring #34 for Roy Halladay and markel franco is #7

You’d think they signed Trout the way these Philly fans are reacting.

You’d think they signed Trout the way these Philly fans are reacting. No matter how you look at it, this is a BIG signing for Philadelphia. On paper, this Phillies team is stacked pretty well. It’ll be an exciting season at CBP. Something we haven’t experienced in close to a decade.

Yeah they look especially good with the 4 or 5 guys they added, it’s not just adding Harper. Just in general some of the reactions I’ve seen seem a little over the top.
