Congrats to Albert Pujols on joining the 3000 hits/600 home run club. You know you've done something when your name is mentioned in the same category as Hank Aaron.

Every time Boone tries to squeeze a 2nd inning out of Betances, he gets burned. Betances has been fine for 1 inning, but he can't pitch 2 innings. He's a 1 inning guy. Boone leads to realize this and stop trying to get 2 innings out of him.

I thought he was perfectly fine last night. Martinez just somehow hit a ball that was off the plate inside the opposite way just over the short porch wall. That’s the last place you’d expect that pitch to end up. Boston started the season 17-2, now we’re 17-2 in the last 19 games, so it’s all Even Steven now.

It is funny how the Yankees and Red Sox have had complete reverse seasons. They started out 17-2 and we went 9-9. Then we went 17-2 and they went 9-9. Like you said....Even Steven.

ok what the happened to Didi Greglorious? pitchers just figuring him out? trying to do to much with no success? hurt? seriously i know baseball players go through hot & cold streaks sometimes...but this guy went from legit MVP candidate, best player in baseball for the entire month of April to pretty much the worst player in May he's 0-his last like 10 games

Just a slump. It looks worse because he was so hot. He wasn't going to keep up that pace. That was just super human. He went 25/87 last year and went 10/30 this year in APRIL....in ONE MONTH he put up almost half of his entire 2017 production (He was on the DL for a month last year, but still). But that's the great thing about the Yankees is that you really hardly even noticed it because they've been winning all these games. They don't rely on 1-3 people like most teams where if those guys fail the whole lineup stalls out. It's a different hero every day for the Yankees. I was at a game last Saturday where the Yankees beat the Indians 5-2. Both Didi and Sanchez had the day off and Judge and Stanton combined for an 0-8 day and the Yankees STILL WON. That's how deadly this team is when those 4 guys aren't in the game or do nothing and you still win. And the Yankees are going to get even better. Remember, they are doing this all without Bird, and Stanton, Sanchez and Gardner really haven't gotten hot yet and Didi has been in a slump and they're 19-3 in their last 22. If Bird comes back and is what we think he is and some people who are playing ok but aren't super hot get hot, and Sonny Gray stops pitching like a bag of d*cks....this team could be historic. They just need to avoid injuries and not have people go into massive massive slumps and I think everything will be fine.

It’s puzzling that Sanchez has such a terrible average, but he’s still just as productive as anyone else on the team with his HRs and RBI.

rumors swirling about the cubs trading for machado most people writing off the idea of harper to the yankees especially since they signed stanton
im kind of fine with both those things. its been proven time and time again just throwing 300 million dollar contracts out doesnt make your team WS champions. i like the way this team is composed. they need pitching in the future, and it never hurts to add another bat or two, but i feel like if this team as it is can contend theres no reason to go open the check book for another set of free agents who in a few years would be guys we'd be saying "man i cant wait until ____'s contract is up"

I think Harper to the Yanks is more likely than Machado at this point. What do we need Machado for now, with the way things are going?

I don't think the Yankees need Harper or Machado. If the Yankees are going to dump huge money into a FA signing, it needs to be a starting pitcher. The Yankees clearly have the offense, but what they lack is a starting pitcher that can be a 1-2 punch with Severino.
Severino is the ace for sure, but after him, it gets dicey. I'd say Cash needs to make a move at the deadline if we want to win the World Series this year, but if not, next year for sure.
- Tanaka is a mystery. He can pitch 7 innings and a shutout, or he can give up 4 home runs. You never know.
- Sonny Gray has been a massive disappointment so far. Not economical with his pitches, has issues putting guys away. Always need to rely heavily on the bullpen to finish his games because he can't get deeper than 6 on a GOOD night.
- CC Sabathia is a warrior, but he's going to be 38 with a degenerative knee condition. Every start/pitch could be his last. Always a DL risk. Like Gray, he's usually not going to go deep, but UNLIKE Gray, for however CC is in the game he usually finds a way to limit the damage.
- Jordan Montgomery; we'll see what he's got when he comes off the DL. I like what I've seen so far, he bends but doesn't break.
- Domingo German; unknown at this point.
We've got Chance Adams (having a HORRIBLE season in AAA so far) and Justus Sheffield (on DL and only has made one start above AA), but neither seem MLB ready. Other than that, we've got Luis Cessa who's on the DL still I believe and has been painful in his MLB starts so far.
The Yankees, as I said, need another ace to go with Severino for a 1-2 Postseason punch.
Good pitching shuts down good hitting, and in the Postseason it becomes difficult to score, especially on the road. It would behoove the Yankees to begin looking at #2 starting pitching targets.
Machado and Harper can't help us if we've got mediocre pitching.
C - Sanchez 1B - Bird or Austin 2B - Gleyber Torres SS - Didi 3B - Andujar RF - Judge CF - Hicks LF - Gardner (Frazier or Florial next year) DH - Stanton
To me, that's enough offense and that could end up being your offense for a long, long, long time. The Yankees need to fortify the starting rotation.
The only other change I would make, is depending on how Robertson finishes the year and what the salary demands are, I would consider bringing back Andrew Miller and letting Robertson walk after this year. We have no lefty specialist. Chapman is the closer, and Shreve is actually better against righties for some reason.
This season Chasen Shreve has a 7.20 ERA vs left handed batters, and a 1.74 ERA vs righties.
In conclusion to my essay here (LOL)....starting pitching, lefty specialist. Either they need to get these things at the deadline, (obviously Cleveland won't be looking to move Miller, we'd have to sign him after the season, but maybe somebody else down the stretch), or these need to be the targets in the offseason and you just try and make it with what we have this year.

Robinson Cano suspended 80 games for failed steroid test. Unbelievable. Yanks are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO lucky they let him walk, we'd be right in the middle of another failed 10 year deal with a steroid user, just like what we went through with A-Rod.

Totally agree about the pitching statements. They will absolutely get someone before the trade deadline this year, and even more of a reason too if Sonny Gray is going to hit and (mostly) miss all season.

So real talk. As a Pirates fan, I'm obviously happy with how they're playing. But y'all know more about ball than me. Barring injury, do y'all think this team has a chance to make it to the playoffs and go deep? Or will they crash after the break and maybe hit .500 and call it a season?

I would be very surprised if they made the playoffs. That division has 4 teams above .500 right now, and then you have Washington, Atlanta, and Philly in the East with Arizona and Colorado in the West... it could be a huge fight for the Wild Card with a lot of good teams.
