Lot of people said that about the Eagles, too. If the Phillies beat the Yank in the World Series, I will buy an Allen Iverson 1996-97 throwback jersey That just seems like a solid investment either way, tbh.

I don't understand why all of a sudden there are all these rumors of the Yankees possibly trading for Manny Machado. What is that going to prove? How does that even remotely help the team? This team needs PITCHING.
-Manny Machado doesn't matter to the Yankees when Sonny Gray goes out there and gets shelled every time. -Manny Machado doesn't matter to the Yankees when the offense hands CC Sabathia a 4-0 lead against the WORST TEAM IN BASEBALL and he proceeds to give up 2 and 3 run homers and lose the game.
And where's he even going to play? Andujar is at 3rd and Didi is at short...so unless you're trading one of them, and Machado has said he only wants to play short....I don't even understand why this is even being talked about.
The Yankees need STARTING PITCHING, That is it. If they can get a first basemen, great, because Bird/Drury/Walker have combined to do NOTHING, but Starting Pitching should be the #1 priority.

It's a shame what's happening to the Yankees. They are having such a great season, but just running up against the Red Sox who happen to be having just a better season.
And it's even more of a shame because of how well the Yankees played so far against the Red Sox, Indians, Twins, Astros and Mariners when all of those teams was in first place at the time and we beat them all and beat them all badly.
But it's how poorly the Yankees have played against the Tampa Bay Rays and the Baltimore Orioles that has taken them from a 4 game LEAD in the loss column to now being 2 games BEHIND in the loss column. The Yankees also managed to lose a series against the Texas Rangers. For some reason, the Yankees can beat the GOOD teams, but they struggle against the BAD TEAMS.
Yanks are probably going to have to settle for the one game playoff. It's just left to see who they will play, Seattle or Houston. But essentially the AL Playoff teams are already locked in, it's just who's going to finish where, but the 5 AL Teams who are making the Playoffs are:
Boston New York Cleveland Houston Seattle
The NL is so bad that it's still mostly up for grabs.

Though I prefer not to think about how 2011 ended up... Yeah I thought I was hitting 2 but I hit 1. Bleh, it happens. And yeah 2011 wasn't good for the regular season we had. Couldn't beat STL, and they went on to win it all that season.

In all my years of watching MLB, I do not think I have ever seen a game like the Reds/Indians last night where the Reds get maybe 3 hits over 8 innings. It was not like a team has ever blown a 4 run lead with their ace reliever in, but to give up 7 runs with two outs in the 9th has to be a record. It might have been more if Gennett did not get trapped between second and third for no apparent reason for the last out. I heard today it was a mix up that they brought in a right handed reliever to pitch to Votto with the bases loaded (which he promptly cleared), but what happened to the times where a pitching change where the coach signals with in what armed reliever he wants by raising that arm? Or Francona seeing the wrong guy coming to the mound and signaling him to go back and send in the guy he wanted? After the Reds blew two games in the past few days when they had a big lead, it was nice to see them make the comeback. The have played well since the 3 - 16 start.

When Francona called to the pen he asked for "O.P." fror Oliver Perez, but the bullpen coach apparently heard "O.T." and had Dan Otero warm up instead.

Can we all take a moment to appreciate the Red Sox? They're on fire right now, just in time for my annual migration from following basketball to following baseball.

Howard's Achilles exploding on the final play was pretty much the perfect image to sum up that era coming to an end, unfortunately. I'm STILL pissed they flipped Pence for practically nothing. I know we needed to start the "rebuild" - which still didn't start for like two years after that anyway, but I digress - but Tommy Joseph and Nate Schierholtz... ugh. I know Joseph was a decently touted catching prospect, and the concussions really derailed him in the minors, but I can only really look back on that and cringe. Hindsight is 20/20, but I really, really dislike that trade.

It's even worse that they traded Pence and Victorino on the same day and those 2 men would win the next 3 rings. Pence in 2012 and 2014 and Victorino in 2013.

Manny Machado to the Dodgers for 5 prospects. It has been one hot summer in LA as Magic Johnson has landed Lebron James and Manny Machado in the same month. The Mask of Truth, what do you think?

It's a great time to be a sports fan in L.A. I like Machado and with him i think the Dodgers can get to the world series. But to beat NY, Boston, or Houston, the Dodgers are gonna need pitching.
