This Las Vegas meeting is in all likelihood just a waste of the Phillies’ time. I 100% believe that Manny Machado will be a Yankee and Bryce Harper will be a Dodger by the end of the month at the latest. Phils will either have to make a big move on Realmuto or just sign some low risk contracts and wait for next year. Maybe they’ll shock the world and try to make a move on Mike Trout, but then again this is the Phillies we’re talking about so they’ll probably get desperate and give up to much for a big name player that’s past his prime.

TFW the race for Machado is reportedly down to the Phillies and White Sox. Which means he’s pretty much guaranteed to sign with Chicago. I don't see Chicago contending for a few years, so they would have to blow him away with money to get him to waste 3-4 years of his prime. I still say the Phillies will come up with the highest offer. And the Phillies can make the Playoffs THIS YEAR. But maybe he's like Cano and he doesn't really want to win.

I still want both. If he ends up in Chicago, then they need to really throw the checkbook at Harper. I still say if they miss out on BOTH, then they need to fire Klentak. He cannot keep doing this "well someone will eventually be good from our farm team."

I'm surprised the Yankees didn't make a play for Brian Dozier. If they truly don't want to go anywhere near Manny Machado's contract demands, they still need to address the situation at SS, which I don't think Tulowitzki is a real solution to.
Troy Tulowitzski didn't play at all in 2018. He only played 66 games in 2017. There is a real possibility that Tulowitzki doesn't make it out of spring training healthy. Look, we all are familiar with sports and working out, hopefully. You know what happens when you don't work out and stay in shape...it's hard to get back into form. His body is currently NOT conditioned to play baseball. He's going to likely keep coming up with soreness here, inflammation there, hamstring tightness, quad pull, groin strain, etc as he works his body back into shape.
I don't think, as Cashman seems to have done, you can just pencil him in as STARTING SHORTSTOP and anticipate that Tulowitzki can handle the position full time from April - whenever Didi comes back, which could be anywhere from late June to not at all depending on his own setbacks in his recovery.
Brian Dozier, 31 year old 2B just signed a deal with the Nationals for 1 year, 9 million. Pretty cheap, right? Especially considering how good he is defensively and that he's good for AT LEAST 20/70 each year, and usually exceeds that.
He would have been my guy to play 2B, I'd have moved Gleyber back to SS where he is an impact player, and continued to work with Andujar on his footwork and throwing angles at 3B.
Unless the Yankees end up signing Machado, I don't think it was smart to let a player like Dozier slip by who can impact your team on both sides of the ball for such a cheap price.
But with Andujar's defense, Tulowitzki's health, and Gleyber out of position at 2B where he looked very uncomfortable at times last year, and let's not even discuss the defense of both Luke Voit and Greg Bird over there at first....the Yankees infield is not good defensively. Not good at all.

Mets sign Jed Lowrie even though they have enough of these 2B/SS type guys

Welp....this could be big. Source reports the face to face between Harper and the Phillies is basically to put ink on the contract. And the meeting will also coincide with reveal of the official final cover of MLB The Show 19.
Same guy broke the Cano suspension. And DeMarco Murray signing with the Eagles a day or two before it happened.
I'm still treading lightly but a little excited. If he signs here, since he is the cover athlete, I'm buying The Show for the first time since TS14.

Lorenzo Alcazar11:40am: The Yankees are closing in on a two-year contract with free-agent second baseman DJ LeMahieu, reports Jack Curry of the YES Network (Twitter links). New York’s plan for LeMahieu is to use him as a multi-positional asset, where he’ll see time at second base, third base and even at first base, per Curry. 11:43am: LeMahieu is heading to the Yankees, tweets Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. His contract is believed to be a two-year deal with a guarantee in the range of $24MM.

strange move but i guess they know Tulo aint making it through a full season. and i think this basically takes them out of the Machado thing.
really strange to spend all these years getting rid of big contracts, getting under the tax thing only to just NOT spend on the best players available and instead fill the holes with some value/discount deals and high injury risk players

Saw it on the r/Phillies Reddit page a couple days ago myself. Don't know how much stock I put into it, since the only other things the guy seems to tweet about is about getting high. But more and more reports of Harper to Philly are coming out. Granted, they're mainly from Nightengale, which isn't much better. We'll see. I'm shocked how this has all turned around - we may actually get both.

Rumor was Phillies were offering 12 years, I think. I dunno, I can't see him getting more than Manny, so that would mean Manny gets $350M+, and I'd be shocked to see that.

Report last night said the White Sox have offered an 8-year, $240M deal to Machado. Update by Nightengale - grain of salt - said the White Sox were firm at 7 years. If the 8 is to be believed, that'd be $30M AAV. I really think Harper gets at least that, if not a higher AAV.
I say the Phillies go 12 years, $400M. That's ~$33M AAV. I also think they'd be content paying the luxury tax if it meant getting BOTH Harper and Machado.
