I recently got a tub of Elites from a local collector who had stored them in his mothers basement. They looked fine at first glance, but when I got home with them and opened the tub I could immediately smell somethibg like mildew and after handling them both my eyes were burning, blood red and then swollen shut.
I paid a pretty penny for them and would obviously like to somehow save them, as is I can't even get near them without a brutal allergic reaction.
Any tips on restoring these guys and make them safe for handling?

Had this happen with a collection of vintage MOTU figures I bought. I'm extremely allergic to certain molds, and this collection was rife with it! I went with a paint facemask, goggles, nitrile gloves, a bowl of warm soapy water, and a very soft tooth brush. It took a while...but I figured a bit more time after the money I'd invested was no big deal. Worked out just fine.

I had the same problem when I picked up my old figures being stored at my cousins house. Get a painting mask, gloves, soap and water. It took me a good few days to get them clean.

I did some Google research and they recommended apple cider vinegar overnight soak then a clean water scrub. There's 56 Elites in this tub, this is gonna take awhile lol.

Got the first batch soaking now, don't have a mask or goggles so my eyes are already getting sticky and swelling up again. Still got all these guys to go:

tub of warm water and oxi clean. buy you a new dish brush (cause you dont want to use an old one) scrub them down in the sink with soapy water (use dawn or some sort of anti bacterial soap) then toss them in a tub of water & oxi clean over night or for 24 days...rinse them real good and you'll be alright. You shouldnt have to do a whole lot of scrubbing.

Sorry if I sound like a noob or a dummy, but why do figures mold? Wish I knew man, you'd think it would want to grow on a food/energy source instead of plastic.

I'm not sure what bleach will do to figures, but if there isn't anything cloth on the figure, perhaps either hit it with some bleach spray, tilex is good for mold, I think.
I know you can spray bleach on molded sheet rock in it's early stages, and it'll kill it. I assume the mold was bad, so I'd suggest perhaps giving them a quick soak.
Then again, bleach may mess up paint. I'm not sure. But I'd maybe try one. I don't see you killing all the mold without using something with bleach. At minimum, I'd try bleach wipes.
Matter of fact, I'll soak some trash pieces in bleach later. I'll post a pic of the result. I'm curious
