Watched episode one tonight; kudos punksnotdead - am very intrigued! As an '80's kid I'm loving the attention to detail and vibe so far, I love the nods to Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter - I get that vibe already from this first episode. Didn't even recognise Matthew Modine at first! The cast of young boys was well chosen; they feel like they belong in that time. Eager to check out the rest of the season.

Started watching this morning, about four episodes in. Amazing! I don't know why I didn't start watching is sooner. I love the pacing, it leaves me wanting more. Hoping to watch more soon.

I saw the trailer whenever Netflix announced it (a month or so before it premiered? I can't remember) and was instantly excited. I've been trying really hard to only pick up one streaming show at a time, though. It helps me get through them faster. So, I was wading through Orange is the New Black Season 4 while everyone was watching this, and the hype just kept growing.
I finally finished Orange, and watched the first two episodes of Stranger Things last night. I'm totally on board. It seems to be everything I was hoping it would be.

So...within one week I have watched the whole season and reiterate my kudos to the OP and all-round knowledgeable dude, punksnotdead - man, what a show! I'm cautious of really investing in TV shows, especially lately, as sometimes I let myself get too caught up in what happens and don't appreciate what it is being offered...that was not the case here; every facet of the series intrigued me, engrossed me and interested me more than anything else on TV or streaming-wise, as a new property to watch. As I said before, being a child of the '80's I recognised the homage/tributes the writers took inspiration from, even the not-so-obvious ones like a nod to shows where the bully always had one offsider, the teacher that comes through for the kids or the carefully-chosen characeristics of the quartet. (the 'wimpy' kid - Will, the 'comic relief-but-heart-of-the-group' kid - Dustin, the loyal-but-independent' kid - Lucas and the 'reluctant leader' - Mike) The score was awesome as well; reminded me of some of my treasured '80's films, ranging from Tron to The Goonies to The Transformers Movie and more. The character development of many characters, from Hop to Joyce to Jonathan and so on was remarkable - but the star was undoubtedly Eleven. What a tremendously gifted youngster she is, Christ. Talent way beyond her years. Hop was outstanding as well, I'm not overly familiar with the actor that portrayed him but he was fantastic. To have flashbacks of his story occur in the finale was superb. Jonathan has a very Edward Furlong 'John Connor' look to him, and was an excellent addition as well. The moments where he was a close brother to Will reminded me of how I am with my own brother. Someone else brought up the pacing of the show; to have everything conclude as it did after 8 episodes says a lot when you've been through this incredible journey, an emotional and creative one at that, and yet you still want to see where it goes from there. The cast was spot-on; they felt they belonged and all served a great purpose. A shame about some characters like Barb but overall, perhaps the best series I've seen on Netflix this year, excluding OITNB. To create something like this blows me away and makes me kick myself for not checking it out sooner, but at least I'm caught up now. If there is a season 2, I'll be sure to be there front and centre.

Just finished it last night.
I was honestly disappointed with the show, with EVERYONE praising the crapout of it, thought it must be good, haven't seen that much fanfare since Breaking Bad
And tbh, it's alright, nothing amazing, some unlikable characters, I felt Eleven was the strongest part of the show but her flashbacks were so generic, I felt the monster also left a lot to be desired.
With Season 2 it'll depend if there's a new cast or not, for me to keep watching

I watched episode 1 and kinda got a good feel of the show, it was fun to watch but nothing I wanted to continue watching.. For me it relied entirely too much on inspiration from the 80s.. It was almost a rip off of 80's sci fi at times.. There's nothing wrong with drawing inspiration from other forms of art.. But when your entire product is taking beats from other well known and popular products, there is an issue.

I definitely enjoyed it but it's SO on the nose sometimes and then just nothing new at others...it's like the ultimate fan service. The X-Men line in the first episode and then using the Falcon toy both were borderline cringeworthy. It's clear how much care is put into it though and I think the kids get better as it goes on so I enjoyed it but the life changing way that people are speaking about it is just so strange to me. STRANGER THINGS HAVE HAPPENED I SUPPOSE!

Just finished watching third episode and it has a John Carpenter/Stephen King vibe. I'm an 80s kid and I'm really liking it so far.

Finally watched this over the past couple nights.
Far exceeds the hype. Absolutely incredible. I don't know if this classifies as a movie or a tv show, but it's one of my favorite things ever. Rarely do I get gripped by a show like this. I really can't wait for season 2. It's really been on my mind all day. I really love those kids. What magnificent little actors.

You guys are making me wanna watch it again! I want to watch it again too (which I never do). Try to pick up on things I might not have before and get to experience the ups and downs again.
