My local Wal-Mart had nearly 50 Elite Daniel Bryans the last time I counted a few weeks back. It does not compute how someone who is still as popular as Bryan sells so poorly.

Ultimate Warrior Kmart figure in the ugly singlet. Worst figure ever made as well hands down.

I only follow the classic era but I remember when I checked out the toys I seemed to always see tons of JYD , Chico and DF Les Gold Hogan , now I could see Chico not being well known by younger fans or Gold/hogan being over produced but I thought JYD was one of the few really well made Mattel figures so I was kind of shocked how many warmed the shelves.

Since I started the elites that clog have been Tito, e33 Cesaro, e32 DBry & e38 Adam Rose. Sid is a close call too.
Oh and DM Ministry Taker.

Outlaw suggested it was because his looks changed too frequently, and I think that's a factor (it was definitely more rapid than Cena's 6-to-8-month, clockwork new gear schedule), but there's probably a ton of additional factors: overproduction, his retirement, and his fanbase being more heavily skewed towards the older crowd. I'm sure kids liked him, but he doesn't have that superhero appeal. He's visually more interesting than other contenders here like Sheamus or Del Rio, but he's not a guy like Cena or Reigns who already looks like an action figure.

When someone starts to sell good or gets a good push, they get added to more waves and case count goes up.
Sometimes it seems like they over do it a little.
Its not that bryan or cena dont sell, they just are put out a lot more.
To a parent, one john cena or one daniel bryan figure (when they look so similar) is enough.
DMs and HOF figures should be a limited thing in my opinion. Not keep sending cases.

BCA Jacqueline
Who else remembers living through that hell? lol
As far as Mattel goes.....I don't know if you can do it by CHARACTER, but Elite 12 Randy Orton was a tough one to get off shelves....but other Randy Orton's moved well.

That was so pervasive that Jacqueline even brought it up in a PROMO on TV. It was actually a pretty clever idea: she basically said that she wanted to win the title and prove she was good enough that people would want her figure. I'd love if someone brought that idea back (Sandow would've crushed a promo like that).

I just went in a Wal Mart yesterday while on vacation and I counted 19 E32 Bryan's on the shelf ! It was the only Elite that they had. And it wasn't like this Wal Mart was stuck in a time warp. They had the Marvel Legends Giant Man wave, the big packaged Turtles that are popular with collectors, and some DC Suicide Squad stuff. Don't know what happened with that DB, but I hope Mattel never makes that mistake again as far as production, case arrangement, whatever. Far too many of them out to ever sell through

Some good points and if you look at guys like Cena, Reigns, Hogan, Warrior, Austin and Rock they have/had a huge, larger than life feel about them and that's something that kids go crazy for. Daniel Bryan on the other hand was the underdog who the WWE didn't want to reach the main event but the older fans fought for him and booed everyone who stood in his path. Daniel Bryan could also be compared to Daniel San from the Karate Kid. They were a similar type of character who had to prove themselves by battling the big, bad guys with great effort.

Jacqueline and Dr Death were a toyshop nightmare when I was a kid lol. Though in defence of Jacqueline the divas division was pretty weak at the time and in figure form you only had her and Luna who were still active on the roster.

Figures like the E33 Cesaro, E32/38 Bryan and E39 Sid all have some excuse though, because they were one of the two figures packed twice per-case/box. But figures like E38 Adam Rose and E39 Mizdow have no excuse - they were only one per-case... and they're still EVERYWHERE. Its not that bryan or cena dont sell, they just are put out a lot more. To a parent, one john cena or one daniel bryan figure (when they look so similar) is enough. ...to be fair though, the E38 Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan were both 2 per-case - Roman seemed to disappear very quickly, but poor old D-Bry is still clogging shelves as we speak... I think it's probably down to Bryan having being off TV for so long by then... kids have very short memories.
