I personally believe that either Conor for winning the second belt or Amanda Nunez for brutally KOing Meisha and Rhonda in the same year would be fighter of the year. But Cody did have a standout year as well. Looking forward to seeing what he does next. I think a fight between him and Dillashaw would be better than his fight with Cruz. Conor maybe... but Nunez hasnt had enough fights this year. Thats my opinion. The argument against Conor would be he also suffered a loss. Nunes had 3 fights this year though and 2-3 fights a year is about the average. And the way she just totally destroyed Tate to win the title and then destroyed Rousey was very impressive(!). I'd go with her or Stipe Miocic: TKO'd Andrei Arlovski in the 1st (in a title-eliminator), KO'd Fabricio Werdum in the 1st (to win the title), then KO'd Alistair Overeem in the 1st (in the FOTN). Not taking anything away from Cody though... he's definitely in contention (I'd probably put him above Conor).

Seems Garbrandt also wants a piece of Aldo and McGregor...this could well and truly be the guys' year as a top name...

Nunez gets all the credit in the world for the fight against Tate. But the Rousey win means nada to me. We all could have beaten Ronda that night. Experts want to make excuses for her left and right about how she prepared or having a bad game plan. It was quite obvious her biggest issue....herself. She wasnt ready mentally. Seems Garbrandt also wants a piece of Aldo and McGregor...this could well and truly be the guys' year as a top name... I was already thinking about him moving up. But I think he needs to destroy the Batamweight division before moving up. Lets see how he handles Dillashaw, Rivera, Caraway and Sterling. Beat them in 2017-2018....then lets talk a move up. I think with Cody's power he can move up to Featherweight. Remember, he already fought at 140 in that catchweight fight in Pittsburgh when Lineker pulled out. Featherweight is a more dangerous division with Aldo, Holloway, Edgar, Swanson, Pettis, Stephens. In fact, I'd love to see a battle with Stephens.

I think Amanda Nunez made more of an impact though. She brutally knocked out the two previous faces of the women's division. Cody defiantly had more of a busy year but he failed to finish Cruz and he a few chances to where his ego prevented him from it I think. He wanted the red to stop it when he dropped him a couple times but he should have swarmed him and took him out. I agree that Cody did not take advantage a few times, but he DOMINATED Cruz like NO ONE. Cruz was 22-1 before Cody. He had beaten the BEST of the Bantamweights. Cody also KOed Almeida who was 21-0 at the time. A TKO to Mizurgaki. He started the year unranked and finished as Champion. Not sure how you can have a more impressive year. Nunez was impressive. But she had 2 fights. And honestly, its not to take away from Nunez....but Rousey beat herself. She wasnt ready mentally and got destroyed. Would Nunez have beaten her if Ronda was ready? Maybe....maybe not. But Im not willing to put a lot of stock in her defeat of Rousey. Connor had an amazing year and because of who he is, he will get consideration. But as far as I am concerned, the loss to Diaz makes his year great..just not better than Cody's. I would be pretty surprised if Cody does not get fighter of the year. I totally get your points about Cody getting it but I'd bet the house on Conor getting it. And wouldn't you say your a bit biased seeing as Cody is your favorite fighter? I've seen you post about him several times. lol...

WILL he get it? I dont know. I know who my vote, if I had one, would goto. I am not sure how UFC will see it. Connor, Cody, Nunez, Stipe, Demetrius Johnson...they are all going to be considered. But I cant honestly see where UFC will go with this right now.

Fox Sports named Bisping their Fighter Of The Year.
That's a solid nod IMO - he now has the most number of wins in UFC history...amazing to think that all the way back in TUF 2 is where we first saw him on a bigger stage...

Rashad Evans and Joe Stevenson won TUF2. But I can see Bisping getting the nod too...

Ariel Helwani and quite a few others picked Bisping too. I am surprised so many are going with Conor though... no doubt his historic second title win was impressive, but aside from that he had a stoppage loss and a razor thin win. I think Bisping, Cody, Stipe and Nunes would all probably get my vote over him (...this isn't Conor hate, BTW - I'm a big fan!).

Bisping had a great year. But defeating Silva who hasnt been the same since his injury and beating Dan Henderson, who is at the tail end of his career....doesnt scream fighter of the year. Defeating Rockhold...major accomplishment, concerning taking the fight on VERY short notice. And wins over Silva and Hendo look great on the resume and bring him some personal pats on the back. But the guy wasnt running through a division. Cody and Stipe remain the only two that I can really give any serious consideration too.

From MMAFighting.com:
The UFC is bringing in a veteran TV reporter and host for its broadcast team.
ESPN and WWE veteran Todd Grisham has been hired by the promotion and will work on the studio desk and in the play-by-play role for fights, sources confirmed with MMA Fighting on Tuesday. Grisham’s debut will be on the desk at UFC Fight Night: Penn vs. Rodriguez on Jan. 15 in Phoenix.
Sources said Grisham was not brought in to be a replacement for Mike Goldberg, the longtime UFC play-by-play man whose final event was UFC 207 on Dec. 30.
The UFC declined to comment on broadcast changes when asked by MMA Fighting.
Grisham, 40, had been with ESPN since 2011. Before that, the Alabama native was a WWE host and on-air personality for seven years. Grisham also works for Glory Kickboxing on UFC Fight Pass as an interviewer and play-by-play man.

(If he isnt...someone has to replace Goldberg.

it satys he isn't replacing Grisham. So I'm guessing he will be on the level of guys like Jon Anik and Brian Stann.Im hoping that they get someone good to replace Goldberg.

Grisham, eh?
Not a bad choice...it does say he's not a replacement for Goldberg which says a lot - seems you can't just replace him, eh?
Not sure who they'll go for in the end...

So he'll be in the booth before FS1 prelims and such? I guess that's ok. Not exactly thrilled or upset by this news. Still seems like a somewhat random hiring, which sort of worries me when it comes to the eventual replacement for Goldberg.

It says he will filling a play by play role for the fights....which is what Goldberg was doing.

Yeah, but it also says he's not replacing Goldberg himself. So again, I'm guessing he'll be strictly on FS1/FOX/Non-PPV duties. Maybe he's replacing Anik/Stann for play by play? Or a 3 man team for those events? I guess we'll see. I've come to appreciate hearing Stann call fights. Anik I can take or leave.

DW said (in the media scrum before 207) that he's working on his "dream" commentary team and it wouldn't be until around July that the new guy would come in. I'd guess Todd is a fill-in guy until then - or (more likely) an extra guy, so that Jon Anik doesn't have to do it all(!).
