Regardless of bad reviews/bad chemistry these two had, I still say they should've main evented WM 8.

i can't see why anyone would think there's bad chemistry there...hogan's character is the perfect face off to flair's character. right down to hogan's finger waving and flair's drop down to the knees. and heenan's final character to take down hulkamania!

The bad chemistry thing is fake news. The truth is that Hogan wanted to win the belt at WM8 and then retire as champ, and leave to go film Mr Nanny. Vince didn't want another vacancy after just having one. So it was switched to a double main event.
Hogan was already planned to leave that summer, as he had in 88 and 90. 92 was going to be the same.
Hogan had to go out a winner, Vince needed someone to beat Flair and stick around.

I remember being excited when then were promoting it on Superstars with the ''press conference'' and all that then Sid turned heel on SNME and all plans changed. We got a nice tradeoff with Savage/Flair but man what could've been...

Imagine if Hogan beat Flair for the belt at Mania that year, and then at SummerSlam we could have had Hogan vs. Warrior II, and Flair vs. Savage in a grudge match.

Like Dixol said the bad chemistry/poor attendance/crowd reactions rumors have always been BS.
Hogan was leaving. Vince didn't want a vacant belt and Flair damn sure wasn't going over Hogan at Mania. I doubt that thought ever crossed Vince's mind.
You can go back and look at attendance figures and it was good. The business was on a downswing, but compare Winter/Spring when Hulk was there to summer/Fall when he wasn't. It's a big difference not saying Hulk was the sole reason but it didn't help.

It's a crime that this match didn't main event Wrestlemania. While I loved the Savage/Flair storyline and match, Hogan vs. Flair was the ultimate dream match for many years.

So much changed going into WM8.....Roberts disagreement with Vince, Hawk getting suspended, Vince having no storylines for post mania because Hogan wanted the summer off, Sid being difficult and wanting to be heel
card originally looked something like this(according to Prichard, Animal, Flair & Dibiase)
Hogan vs Flair
Savage vs Roberts
LOD vs Money Inc
Bret vs Piper
Sid vs UT- strangely this seemed to where UTs face turn was to occur at one point. But it hinged on something Sid done in the RR or something cant quite remember. In any case? it didn't go down.

Add Michaels vs Jannetty to that card as well. The best Mania that never was...

As someone who went to one of those house shows where these two headlined (although they went on in the middle) , i can attest to the fact that they indeed HAD chemistry. One of my favorite live matches I've wittnessed. Wasn't thrilled with the countout finish, but i knew even then ,there'd be no pinfall at a lowly house show in Evansville IN. But i was just thrilled Flair didn't eat a pin anyway. Point being, it could've headlined Mania 8, no doubt. The next time WWF came to town,it was Savage vs Flair in a Mania rematch. I scored front row for that ,and they trolled me with a false finish. Perfect threw Flair some knucks, he nailed Savage and got the pin, they gave Flair the belt ,then the ref found the knucks and DQ'ed Flair.........I'll never forget the disappointment. Lol....i was most assuredly the only 12 year old cheering for Flair in the building that night. When it was Flair vs Hogan, there were several fans cheering for Flair during that. Albeit older ones.
