I'm mostly new to the Mattel WWE collecting game, but have been collecting wrestling figures since the late 80's. Took a break between Jakks and Mattel and came back last summer. I'm an MOC collector mostly, and in the last few weeks, I've noticed a LOT of card backings and Elite packages are sitting on shelves just absolutely destroyed...is this a new thing or has this been going on for a while? I passed on a bunch of AJ Styles basics and elites because of this as well as a few other "hotter" figures in recent weeks. The newest shipper that dropped at my local Walmart doesn't have one single figure card without a crease, tear or bubble dent. It's really crazy. Anyone else been noticing this around their stores lately? I live in CT.. was wondering if it was a bunch of jerks doing this locally or if it's a problem all over the place.

I'm in NY and noticed it a lot at Walmart. They literally had a fresh case of TNF basics on a cart. I opened it and the two Xpacs on top were belt so bad that the bubble on one was almost off the card.

No. You run the gauntlet no matter if it is in stores or online. The downside of being a MOC collector.

I bought an Elite 41 Terry Funk in The Entertainer the other day. Box was beat to roody-poo. Figure was fine!

Stores I'm usually able to pick and choose. Ordering from Ringside has been very hit and miss with packaging issues and in some cases paint app errors.

Some of it is due to scalpers, they buy up all the figures they need & do something to destroy what remains on the shelves. Then put them on eBay or another auction site & sell them for twice the price. Should be illegal.

This was happening since at least 2014. I noticed it was really bad while I was trying to find a CM Punk Summer Slam figure and since then it’s been common, but big during 2014 and 2015 especially.

Then put them on eBay or another auction site & sell them for twice the price. Should be illegal. Sounds like BS to me. This is VERY TRUE! I worked at the Toys R Us in Asheville, NC YEARS ago (back when Kaybee Toys were still open) for a few months and there was an old lady that sold figures, mostly Star Wars and Jakks WWF (WWE), at the local flea market who would do this exact same thing. She would buy all of the newer, hard to find figures and then crumple up the card backs of the ones she couldn't afford so mint on card collectors would come to her booth and pay extra for mint figures. Every time she would come into the store I was working at the employees would say, "Oh S---, here comes old Miss Alma" because they all knew what she was doing. I asked employees at the TRU, and then the employees across the street at the Kaybee across the street at the Biltmore Square Mall why they put up with it, and all of them had the exact same story..."She's old and doesn't know any better... what can we say?" BS... She knew exactly what she was doing! So I say "YES!" (Daniel Bryan nod), this does indeed happen. If "Miss Alma" was getting away with it back in the day, you better believe others are definitely doing it today.

Im in CT as well, I mean it all depends. Ive seen some real beat up ones and some that are mint on mint cards. I think it all depends when you find them. If they just stocked the shelves you may be in luck, but then theres times where just the whole shipment of the cards are kinda beat up.

I've seen alot of elite 51 at retail, specifically Walmart and most of them are damaged in a way, I don't know why they've come like that

Elite 51 big time. And all divas basics or elites always going back to elite Sasha banks first release.
I found elite 51 at 2 walmarts. I got aj on a good mint box. I was there to buy mankind and berzerker. Mankind had a small Crack on top. Berzerker was completely destroyed.
The 2nd Walmart same berzerker completely destroyed, Nia jax basic destroyed.
Any new set that comes in now elite 48 49 50 most of not all the hoops were ripped off or dented.
I have yet to also find a decent retro box, but there flimsy.

I opened nearly six fresh cases of the Then, Now, Forever Basics last weekend on the way to vacation and all had cards beat to hell to say the least. Out of all of those cases, I was able to grab a Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, and Bray Wyatt all with good cards, but I can't say the same for the other two in the series. I also noticed this with a case of Elite 51 that I opened; nearly everyone was crushed. The same can be said for all of the Summerslam Basic figures I've seen so far this year. It looks obvious to me that Mattel or whoever the hell is packing these cases are using too small of boxes and cramming them in there...

I don't collect anything MOC for this very reason. Life is easier that way.

I don't doubt the scalper issue happening in select areas, but I've seen fresh cases of the TNF basics and BP 47 put out on shelves with the same bends and crushing at one Walmart. I've then been to another 3 hours south and found the exact same bending. To me that sounds like they had some crushing issues when loading the container overseas, or, and more likely, when separating the shipment at Walmart warehouses here in the states.

I don't think I've seen any issues in my recent hunts. If anything, I've noticed less and less carding issues in recent months. My stores still have some TNF Typhoons/Earthquakes that have endured the months of shelf warming looking pretty good.
While I personally have no interest in collecting MIB/MOC, I still get oddly irritated when I see carding that's purposely damaged. Accidents obviously happen, but it irks me when sites/stores purposely damage anything to fit them in a box or on a shelf. I have no idea why it bugs me so much.

Deliberate creases are way different looking than damage caused in shipping and handling. The flea market dude here in town disappeared a few years ago and thats when the deliberate creases on cards and boxes went away. They were always the same. He'd dog ear the flaps on elite boxes and crease the cards over on basics, just one clean one from side to side. It happens.

I remember years ago on here a very popular board member Juice Winslow got slammed by other members because he would go to stores when they opened, get what he wanted, wreck the carding of the other figures to deter scalpers from buying them and leave. Some people thought it was great vigilante justice, others thought he was ruining it for the people who collected moc in his area. My take is just don't collect moc it's so much more of a hassle.

Yeah wasn't he bending the upper corners of the cards? Or was that somebody else? I definitely remember somebody bending the upper corners of the cards, like the way you would fold a book page in at the corner.
