What's easier? Teaching an athletic kid to wrestle, or teaching a wrestler to act? I say it's easier to take an athletic actor and mold him into a wrestler. I'm tired of weak, worthless promos. It's not like guys like Corbin are killing it in the ring anyway. I'd rather see an average wrestler that can speak convincingly.
You tell me. Am I on something or onto something?

I mean it could probably work, but maybe not. A lot of people just don't have it in them, but at the same time, i think if they relied less on scripted promos and more on bullet points in promo cutting, that could inprove promos. I mean, what writer should tell Seth Rollins for example, how to be Seth Rollins? A lot of the problem with promos is pretty much the same as the problem with the storylines. Too much reliance on these Hollywood writers who don't understand pro wrestling

They used to take models and try and turn them into women's wrestlers, how did that go? Just like their heart isn't in a promo, an actors heart won't be in his ring work. To be a wrestler it takes much much more than get in the ring and do these fancy moves. If you don't truly love, breathe and die wrestling, you aren't making it. They need to cut the stupid written script promos because that's what's killing it. They take classes down in NXT how to do promos, everything is just the generic though. Needs more character and freedom to cut a good one

Could work, but it'll turn out like the WWE Divas circa 2005. Just a bunch of pretty faces who can't go.

Didn't Cena mock someone for wanting to take an acting class to improve their promo/acting skills?
I feel like I remember hearing that about either him or some other top guy.

Problem is, their heart would never be in it. They'd use the WWE and then jump ship the second they get semi over. We've seen it happen plenty, most recently with Eva Maria, so it's entirely possible it'd happen again.
For me personally, I'd rather they hire people who's dream is to make it to WWE. Then hire a acting coach to work in NXT to help get talent to showcase their emotions better.

I can see where you're coming from, but ultimately it's a terrible idea that will lead to nothing but a multitude of people only using the WWE to springboard their way into acting roles. It's far better to have people who genuinely live and breath pro wrestling. If their promo skills are lacking, they can go to promo classes at the performance centre.

this is a terrible idea, no offense to op.
the wwe is a corporate wrestling company that is forced to adhere to what is socially acceptable and what their stock owners want. if you're looking for organic promos that develop the wrestlers then wwe simply is not the place to find that. so i guess if you want random actors who are there for the money and not wrestling driven, then sure, they will do better with scripted promos. but that would still be hot trash.

the problem isnt the talent, its the bland, boring, vanilla scripts they are being told to memorize line by line

Send some of these wrestlers to improv seminars. The best promos are ones where people can deliver their promo and adapt on the fly to what their opponent says and how the audience reacts. This would reduce the reliance on scripted material and let some of the wrestlers' real personality come through making for a more interesting, believable character.

How about they just get people who love wrestling and can do both?

This isnt going to work. You still need some kind of athletic ability to be a pro wrestler, and if many former NFL players cant handle the training, how can some guy looking to get into Hollywood do so?

They'd be better off getting acting coaches for the wrestlers. Or approaching stuntmen. Most aspiring actors are gonna look down on wrestling.

the problem isnt the talent, its the bland, boring, vanilla scripts they are being told to memorize line by line bingo! Promos are boring because you have writers telling them exactly what to say. None of the greatest talkers in wrestling history had writers for them. Maybe a bullet point but never had a script written.

If I remember correctly, when he was on the creative team, Freddie Prinze Jr would hold acting classes backstage.

Its an interesting idea. I like the outside the box thinking. However, I think much like Kelly Kelly or Eva Marie...these people you get from acting school will want to use WWE to get their name out there in order to further their acting career. Guys who cant "act" but are committed to wrestling have a passion for wrestling and are more likely to stay with it. Even former athletes have the drive to be successful in their sport. You wont find someone like Corbin wanting to use WWE to propel himself back into the NFL. One, the NFL doesnt care if you are a former WWE star or if you have any notoriety. And two, WWE is pursuing guys who either cant make it to the NFL or their careers have ended with the NFL. They arent trying to convince Tom Brady to leave the NFL for WWE.
