Can we talk about how much of a train wreck this return was? I loved the British Bulldog. One of my absolute favorites ever, but he just didn't fit in at all when he made this comeback.
First off, whoever gave him the green light to wear blue jeans, tucked into his damn socks no less, should've been fired on the spot. The revamped music also sucked. I know they were trying to be edgier and maybe "Rule Britannia" didn't fit the era, but the theme they came up with sucked hard.
I'm aware of the personal demons Davey was dealing with at the time. Those were ultimately what killed his return. I just will never understand why they put him in jeans. He wore a more traditional pair of tights at Unforgiven, but the majority of that run was spent competing in Levis. I hope this bothered someone else as much as it did me.

I doubt WWE told him to wear blue jeans.

The Hart Foundation WWE return looks have all been terrible, lets hope Anvil never decides to get back in the ring. They must really have a thing for denim.

I always wondered what the point of him wearing blue jeans was instead of his normal Union Jack/British inspired gear. Maybe he just wanted to look more rugged and mean.

Maybe his tights didn't fit him right anymore?? They could have gotten too loose for him so he opted to wear jeans.
I didn't mind the jeans look, mainly because I felt that in the years 1999 and 2000, someone like Davey Boy Smith didn't fit what the WWE was at the time. I always felt Vince brought him back for two reason. One was he was trying to fix situations in regards to Owen's death. And two, to compete with WCW by once again taking a WCW star. I doubt Vince had any real plans for him. In his return, Davey won two Hardcore Titles and the European Title again. Which is okay, since that belt was created for him anyhow.

Believe me or not, my friend trained in Calgary at the dungeon the Summer of 2000. Davey Boy was home a lot during that time and told him that Vince himself wanted Davey to wear jeans and workboots. Made no sense imo. Not only did he have huge back issues at the time but I'm sure Vince was holding a grudge from when Davey left after the screwjob.

I literally thought of this a couple of days ago. I tried to piece together the mess of a puzzle and came to no conclusion.

What about his sweatpants tucked into boots with fanny pack look?

I disagree about the music. At the time it was one of my favorite theme songs.
I do agree about the jeans however it would've been awesome if he came out in his 97 trunks but I don't get why he wore the Union jack tights at Unforgiven and then dropped them.

I doubt Vince would hold a grudge, it's bad for business. As for the Jeans, I would imagine it would be really uncomfortable wearing jeans in a wrestling match, especially Levi's they tend to be bit tight. I do love me a good old pair of 501's though, I have a pair in the drawer that must be going on 20 years old and they are still in good nick. In fact they have got better looking over time.

The Levi's they put out today are pretty perfect too, don't cut into you nearly as bad as past experiences I have had with them did. They're so comfortable I am certain the likes of Ambrose and Luke Harper wear them in the ring. Always made me smile when them two squared off back at the Wrestlemania in Levi's Stadium.

This reflective discussion on the cut and comfort level of a pair of levi blue jeans is both concerning and refreshing! Maybe an answer to Davey's tucked in look was that Boot Cut jeans weren't invented yet?

So, have you guys seen Harry Smith in NJPW this tour? He's rocking the jeans/boots look!

I am pretty sure I had boot cut jeans back in the late 80's...But boot cut jeans tapered out to fit over a cowboy boot.

I feel pretty confident is saying Davey Boy was not on the cutting edge of fashion. He's made some questionable offenses over the year.

Neither really bothered me, I did like his Unforgiven 99 Union Jack tights look though so if he went forward with that. Although with the times I get it, I think Bulldog wearing Union Jack designs all over represented more of the cheesy heel they were shooting for at the time and not so much of the badass heel.

I guess it was another attempt for him to evolve his character as time went on (1995, heel turn and look change was similar) but by late 1999 he overall was outdated. I did like his short run, though. It just didn't seem to work for the time (more cutting edge characters) and I think he got hurt or something happened that he needed time off. He was supposed to return but that never worked out.

I'm sure cornrows probably look great with the fanny pack and the tucked in mom jeans.
