WWF Superstars 9-24-88. Your hosts Vince McMahon and Jesse ''The Body'' Ventura''
Jim Duggan vs Antonio Chapotlin- Easy win for the Glens Falls native as he wins with his signature 3 point stance clothesline. Dino Bravo and Frenchy Martin appeared briefly at ringside during the match with their ''USA is not ok'' sign. USA USA USA!!. Their feud would last a good few months leading into early 89.
Next up is the infamous debut vignette for Akeem. I gotta say the gimmick was cheesy as hell but man I enjoyed the hell outta of it. Seeing him dance in place was gold. Track this one down if you haven't seen it as it's a much watch for old school fans.
Tito Santana vs Tony Ulysses- Flying Forearm for the win. Tito was floundering around this time as Strike Force was out of commission as Rick Martel was out with a kayfabe injury.
The Bolsheviks vs Tony Suber & Scott Colontonio- The Russians with the win with a backbreaker/forearm combo. I liked The Bolsheviks. Just a good ol' rough and tough team from the 80s.
Next up is the event center with Sean Mooney who was relatively new to the WWF scene as he came in during the spring of that year. It's a face paint edition as we hear from the WWF Tag Champs Demolition and the IC Champ The Ultimate Warrior!!
King Haku vs Martin Leroy- Side kick to the face ends this in a hurry. They were pushing Haku for a little while here which I liked.
Another Event center with comments from The Hart Foundation(who were feuding with Jimmy Hart over contract issues) and Rick Rude ( who was feuding with Jake Roberts during this time.
Powers of Pain vs Bob Emery & Chance McQuaid- ''The Baron'' aka Baron von Raschke was the POP manger for a brief time here. Powerslam/Diving headbutt combo for the win. IMO POP as faces just didn't work. I'm glad they did the double turn at SSeries that year with Demolition.
Next up we got an in arena podium interview with Craig DeGeorge ( Remember him?!?!) interviewing Outlaw Ron Bass. He was feuding with Brutus Beefcake during this time period. Bass kayfabe injured Brut-I with his spurs to make me him miss out on his IC title match at SSlam. A haircut is coming soon for you Outlaw!!
Jake Roberts vs George South- DDT end this in about 3 minutes. Jake was in a heated feud with Rude over Jakes wife during this time. I enjoyed this feud a lot. Long standing feud as well as it started in the Spring and ended in the fall.
Rougeau Brothers vs Lanny Poffo & Bert Centeno- Jimmy Hart was here as this was where he was introduced as their new manager. Poffo would mainly be a jobber until the spring of 89 in which he was repackaged as ''The Genius'' scroll and all. Easy win for the Rougeaus here.
Last event center with Greg Valentine and Brutus Beefcake wraps us up.
Overall for the Akeem vignette alone, I'd give this show a watch. As always don't expect much from the matches on these weekend morning shows. Final verdict- Recommended
