Have you been into a retail store recently? Barbie is doing horribly. They keep trying new gimmick after new gimmick (better articulation. new body sizes. interactivity.) thinking it will help and it simply won't. Kids do not care about Barbie anymore. She's constantly on a clearance rack and steadily losing shelf space. I remember the year we took her down to 20 feet at wal mart. It was a big to-do. That was the beginning of the end for her. The only people who buy barbies anymore are barbie collectors and the occasional gift for a birthday party when they have no clue what the child is interested in. Barbie won’t just go away. My niece and all her friends do nothing but play with barbies. I always see little girls in the doll aisles. They’re not selling like they used to, but it’s not as bad as you’re making it out to be. I don’t know why so many of you are constantly grasping at straws, trying to insist mattel is failing and are a god awful company. It’s as if you guys want them to tank, even though you pore hundreds of dollars into the line See I never said they didn't play with Dolls. Disney Princess (which Matty recently lost to hasbro) and Monster High (which matty still has) and generally speaking "fashion dolls" is still a big seller. But Barbie isn't what little girls are after now. It's all about monster high and to a lesser extent ever after high and descendants (disney license) and spirit and dc superhero girls etc Nor did i say Mattel was a horrible company. But barbie specifically is as bad as Im making it out to be.

Say what you want Cena figures always sell. They’d be stupid not to make more. Reigns in the other hand will haunt targets for months, years, decades, centuries, millenniums etc. The NXT Reigns is a flop, because that's not what kids know or want....but I will say that I have NEVER seen a current Elite Reigns shelfwarm. E56 Reigns definitely sold. E54 Cena usually hangs around for a bit before it gets bought.

You may not have to look at sales trends, meet with Mattel reps, discuss product withdrawals and product placement, keep track of what is selling and when as a job requirement. But that sounds like a personal problem to me.

As a master license holder that can make action figures? No. I don't believe so.

If anything I'd say Wicked Cool Toys has the best shot at the master license if/when matty loses it, which I hope never happens.

I doubt hasbro would. they've already got the action figure market pretty much cornered aside from DC and WWE as far as mass retail is concerned. WWE isn't gonna be a priority for them.

Cornered would be better than pretty much cornered true. I just can't see them concerning themselves with what would almost certainly be an afterthought to them.

They can't even run two marvel or star wars lines at the same time correctly. (3.75" and 6") The thought of them achieving the year that Mattel had last year with wwe seems rather far-fetched.

Highest selling and highest grossing aren't necessarily the same thing. There were a lot of figures sold to Big Lots, TJ Maxx, etc in 2017 after the shelves backed up in 2016. But I agree with Rybuck's point that Mattel probably needs the WWE license far more than Hasbro, and I wouldn't be shocked if they were willing to offer a better deal to keep it. Hasbro has a number of successful action figure lines (Marvel, SW, GI Joe, Transformers) while WWE is definitely the most prominent and successful for Mattel. If any other company ended up with the license, it would be a huge failure for WWE. No other toy company can come close to competing with those two in terms of dollars or marketing size. It's probably worth noting that Mattel having an exclusive negotiating window for the next few years to work with WWE on a new contract/extension probably works in their favor as well.
