Yah it was a few years ago, he was claimed though I think by Boston.
The waiver process is like this:
Every player gets put through waivers, either because they want to try to sneak someone in so they put in the Ortiz's and Manny's of the world in.
Some teams just wanna dump players and hope people will take a mistake like Randy Myers awhile ago.
Teams like the White Sox and the bad teams will just claim players either to be dicks to their rivals or to try to help their team right now.
Rarely deals get done for stars past July 31

Well why would the Sox want him now after the season so far? Why wouldn't they just get him in winter to start a fresh season? Not being a dick, just wanting to know

Because in waivers they can get the team to eat some of the contract, plus theres a very good possibility that the Orioles werent even trying to deal him...just put him through, White Sox claimed him and it ended there.
My guess, is that they claimed him and B-More pulled him back real quick.

So once Glavine gets 300, that is probably it for a long long long time, maybe for our lifetimes
Pedro Martinez was the closet, if he didnt get hurt, 33 when he went to the NL, and hes at 206 now, if he was the Pedro of old for 2-4 more games he'd be at 260-270 before he turned 38.
Anyways, so now the possibilities for 300:
Barry Zito Age 29 110 Wins Mark Buerhele Age 28 106 wins CC Sabathan Age 26 95 wins
Lets say Zito pitches 11-13 more years....soft tossing lefty can pitch past 40.
Its gonna be tough for both Zito and Burherle, both have been very healthy.
Sabathia is probably the best bet, but hes fat so hes bound to get hurt

Randy Johnson was the only guy close to 300, and he won't get it. The only way he had a shot was if he stayed healthy and, in my honest opinion, finished his career with the Yankees. And no, that's not being biased or anything - I didn't want RJ back and was glad we got rid of him. My point is that the Yankees gave him ridiculous run support and he still won 15+ games with an ERA in the 5's. If he would have pitched 2 more full seasons for the Yanks, he likely would have gotten 300, but his back is just about finished anyway.

Congrats to Glavine. Even though heis a douche, and also plays for the Mets, he won us a championship, and I love what he did for us in Atlanta.
