Nice, the Red Sox actually helped the Yankees by winning today. Being in first place for the Wild Card at this point is just incredible to me. When I think back to all those losses because of idiotic managing or our offense just not deciding to show up, I'm really shocked that the Yankees really do have a realistic shot at making the playoffs. BALDERDASH! The wild card is simply unacceptable! Why should you be rewarded for finishing second! PENIS CAKE! Random Yankees vs. Red Sox Gibberish. Stock 5 paragraph argument with ralpho on whose team has the bigger average cock length and girth. PENIS CAKE!

By a .5 game...I don't really count that as a lead since all teams wind up playing the same number of games anyway.

Arent the Tigers in first place for the Wild Card? Tigers are up by 1/2 on NY and SEA. I'm not writing an AL East championship yet... 7 games is not impossible. The only games that seem to worry me are the Orioles. We seem to be their bitch this season for unexplainable reasons.

I LOVE YOU GUYS YOU were the guy arguing back and forth with mofo the other day about how the number of games you're behind in the loss column doesn't matter... We can't talk about the possibility of making the playoffs, Brian. Don't you know it's nonsense to talk about your team succeeding in this board?

I agree with WOJC, unfortunately, the division isnt over yet. Yankees got a TOUGH schedule ahead
At Cleveland, B-More, Detroit, At LA, At Detroit, Boston.
So if they can be within 3-4 by the end of the month, they have a shot but if they keep it at like 7 or the Sox gain on them...the division is over

Yankees designate LHP Mike Myers for assignment. Enter Joba Chamberlain.
--- Myers > Villone. Villone as the lefty specialist scares me despite Myers blowing against lefties. Id rather have Myers in that role then Villone but whatever.

Regardless of loss column, which you are right about. YOU ARE NOT IN FIRST PLACE FOR THE WILD CARD! Tigers could make up that game and put you guys 1.5 back. And the Mariners have 2 to make up. It just makes me laugh, you are in 2nd place for the Wild Card.

Baltimore's Miguel Tejada and Oakland's Mike Piazza, two major stars mentioned in trade rumors during the summer, hit the waiver wire in the last week -- and one is now in a position to be dealt in August, while the other is not.
Mike Piazza
Piazza
Miguel Tejada
Tejada
Tejada was claimed on waivers by the Chicago White Sox, who may be looking for a shortstop as they consider whether or not to pick up the 2008 option on current shortstop Juan Uribe, who is hitting .215 with 11 homers and 43 RBIs. But the Orioles and White Sox did not work out a deal to allow Tejada to go to Chicago. The Orioles will keep Tejada for the rest of the year, sources say.
When players are placed on waivers in August and are claimed, their current team has three options: work out a trade with the team that claimed the player; give the player to the team that made the claim without compensation; or withdraw the player from waivers. If a player is withdrawn from waivers in August, he cannot be placed on so-called trade waivers again, and that is apparently what is taking place with Tejada.
Piazza, hitting .292 with three homers for the Athletics, passed through waivers without being claimed, which means that Oakland can now trade the designated hitter/catcher to any team interested. Minnesota and the Angels briefly considered making deals for Piazza in the weeks and days leading up to the July 31 trade deadline.

But you're right, Ralpho...if it was October 2nd, the Yankees would miss the playoffs. Nevermind the fact that no team would be a half game out of a playoff spot it it WAS October 2nd, that's apparently besides the point. I'll tell you what - if the Yankees miss the playoffs by a half game, I owe you a steak dinner.

Id rather have Myers in that role then Villone but whatever. Chamberlain hasn't been called up yet...Myers' roster spot might be for Giambi. Anyway, I'm glad Myers is gone. He was a waste of a ing roster spot and couldn't even continue to do the one thing he was being paid for, that being getting out lefties. The worst part about Myers wasn't even his fault - it's the fact that Joe Torre is an idiot when it comes to managing his bullpen and doesn't understand how to use a lefty specialist correctly.

True. But I HIGHLY doubt that the Yankees would carry only 11 pitchers.

It would be great to have Tejada here. Guaranteed over .300 hitter just about every season, and he is so much of an upgrade over Uribe at the bat that its not funny.

It would cost at least 2-3 top prospects and probably an everyday player. The White Sox just claimed him because "What the hell, might as well try"
Everyone pretty much goes through waivers, and 99% of them dont get moved

Well I don't know who the prospects would be off hand, but obviously Uribe would be the every day player sent to Baltimore. Plus even though Kenny always seems to fail me, I have a feeling he is going to do something big after the season they are going through now.
