They had Ric talk about Triple H vs. Undertaker and had the WWE Champions app ad on Raw with Ric Flair and Charlotte. It got me thinking... Is Ric Flair really as good as he's made out to be? Or has he just become decades of positive feedback loop, where the idea just keeps getting reinforced to the point where it's just accepted?

Is Lex Luther overrated?? Is Joker overrated?? If Hulk Hogan is the greatest hero turned greatest villain of all time, then Ric Flair is the greatest villain turned greatest hero of all time. He carried NWA and WCW on his back. He was the Face of NWA / WCW..as the Heel. I can’t think of anyone else who did that pre - World Wrestling “Entertainment” era. Some might say Triple H carried Raw for a good amount of time, but he had the WWE Champion carrying Smackdown, cutting the load in half.

He knows how to work the crowd better than most wrestlers these days, so I can't say he's overrated especially when majority of the world knows who he is.

Great in the ring, great talker, 16 time world champ, multiple legendary matches, promos, and storylines, one of the most recognizable and charismatic wrestlers of all time. Not exactly the definition of the word “overrated”.

ClashOfStyles I am only asking about this because I did not grow up watching Flair in his prime. When I started watching him in WWE was during the Evolution days, and he was clearly old by then. It seems that the more years go by, the more attention he gets, and now that his daughter is treated like the Second Coming, it's hard not to question "hmm, is this really such a big deal, or all hype?". That's all I'm asking. Objectively, he just comes out in a fancy robe, says "woo", and isn't very memorable in the ring (i.e. his movement is as limited as Hogan). I don't doubt his popularity (it's essetial for being considered overrated in the first place), so I'm just asking you guys who some of you have been around and can tell me.

Ric Flair is the best wrestler off all time he has done more for this sport than any man past present or future the traveling he did the match lengths he did where today's wrestlers could only dream of doing. Bob Orton SR said it the best in one of his videos the SOB found the fountain of youth and he is keeping the location a secret. Ric Flair is truly the master of the mat and yes he has done alot of bad politics behind the scene but still when it comes down to it. he is and will always be THE MAN.

I would say everything Ric Flair has accomplished, he earned. The guy knows every single inch of the square circle. He can work a mic and a crowd. He is the complete package, everything a wrestler needs to be to get to the top, he has it. I would like him as a manager, he still has a lot to offer.
But in short, nothing about overrated here.

He’s the greatest wrestler of all time in my opinion. I want to look back at this post in about 7 hours when all the millennials wake up and see what they have to say lol

Two viewpoints:
1) If you grew up watching wrestling in the late 80s and 90s, you would see that Ric Flair brought something unique to the wrestling profession. He had a character that was unparalleled.
2) If you grew up watching wrestling in 2005 era, you'll probably think Ric Flair was meh. He wasn't doing arm drag take down after arm drag takedown, or 450 splashes. Wrestling back in the 80s and 90s was a different beast than it is today.
It is all going to be based on your starting point. Personally, I think Flair was the best at being a heel. I can't think of any other person I wanted to see get beat than him. He had me always hoping his opponent would destroy him. Other heels of that era didn't come close. Even when wrestling started to make the switch into the attitude days, I didn't care if they got what was owed to them in most cases. For example, I hated Hollywood Hogan, but didn't care if he bested Luger, DDP, Giant, Savage, or whomever they trotted out. But, if they sent out Sting, then I cared. With Flair, I don't care if it was Savage, Eaton, Alex Wright, or any other low to mid carder, I wanted to see him get destroyed. Flair just made everyone around him better.
Today, there are wrestlers who help elevate those in the ring with them (Rollins, Styles) but as much as I love Styles, and he and no one else will ever be, the heat magnet that is Ric Flair.

I wasn’t around for his prime either, but I’ve watched almost every Ric Flair PPV match and major promo, and he comes off as all he’s hyped up to be imo. No he’s not doing crazy spots like guys do now, but Flair could always tell a great story with his matches. I get why the word overrated may be used to describe him, and by some people he very well might be, but I think he lives up all to the hype.

If you compare Flair to today's ultra athletic talents, then yeah, I could see where Flair might not be all that thrilling to watch. But in his prime, he could make anyone/everyone look like a million bucks. As a kid, I didn't see it, but as I got older, I grew to appreciate just how good he really was.
Also, moved this since Flair is not current WWE.

To me, Flair was mostly boring in the ring. From 1992 to the end of his career, I'm basing it on, really. He's had great matches, no doubt, but he relies on chops and he mostly took a lot of offense.
Easily one of the greatest talkers ever and that's how he got people into arenas.

Please do yourself a favor & find a bunch of Flair matches from the 70s & early 80s. He can go hold for hold with guys who wrestle like Nick Bockwinkel, then go punch for punch with guys like Bruiser Brody. He can adapt to just about any style. The man was definitely ahead of his time.
