But why are they going to keep making them just to not sell.
I understand it's annoying but shelves being full of IRS or Sycho Sid's doesn't help. Ringside would be better to make a limited number of each flashback and sell them online and some stores but it's limited. Once they're in the main line they get over produced and stuck on shelves for months. I'm not a fan of how they're handling the UK line but flashbacks should never hit our stores in the quantity they did because who buys them probably not as many people.

CDNMadness, I agree. All of us legend posters post on here and are always discouraged by other collectors telling us how Mattel works and then boom - we get a Shark figure. A Red Rooster figure. And Mattel keeps proving them wrong. I think the best is to have a flashback in a regular elite line and educate the current younger collector. If they don't want them we will snatch them up. The other way to do it is to do Build a figure (original figure not a redo of one that has been made) and build a set like they have been doing.

It’s a loosing battle my friend. Flashback collectors are second class citizens to Mattel. I guess they fail to remember the reason wrestling toys is so popular is because of the success of the Classic Superstars line which grossly outsold the standard RA line. Even Jeremy said the bread & butter for Jakks was the Classic line.

Getting thrown a bone 2 or 3 times a year isn't proving anyone wrong lmfao. It's pleasing the complainers enough to keep you spending money on their product. Nothing more. And getting discouraged by people disagreeing with you and trying to help you understand...yikes. I'm not touching that, that's how the warning bar goes up. Now I'm not against flashbacks, but they are not the bread and butter of the wwe lines. They just aren't. They aren't making a mistake by not releasing more, they aren't gonna "learn a lesson when flashback collectors leave the line" because you won't. And if you did, again, you aren't the target market, it won't make enough of a dent to hurt them. It's just how it is.

No sorry they cost other people good sets because stores won't order in the figures because they're still rotting on the shelf. Flashbacks in Smyths always go down to £15 or £10 and still don't sell. Look Mattel imo should look to doing them on Ringside only and maybe some stores but in limited quantities.

When you start asking for stats, you've already lost. Flashback collectors are the minority. Adult collectors are not the target market. I don't need stats. If they are a minority then why do they keep making figures aimed at this minority?! Not good business sense IMO to produce figures that will only appeal to a minority of customers?!

My kid has been out of the game for a few years now so the only figures I get are ones that make sense for me. Those would be Flashback figures and Ronda Rousey. I often wonder as to why I still collect because there’s never going to be an end game for me. I’d like to round out the Wrestlemania III roster but we’re never going to get Billy Jack Haynes or Tom Zenk. Every year we speculate as to who is gonna be the surprise Golden Era figures and we seemed to be disappointed with every reveal. Then we get Harley Race and it’s the best figure ever but limited quantity. I don’t understand the business. I wish I did and would like to be in charge of the Flashback series. At least then I can have some perspective as to why we get two Big Boss Man figures and characters like Greg Valentine and Hercules continuously get skipped over. Because the Big Boss Man is gonna sell more than Greg Valentine & Hercules /thread Too bad we can’t actually make that comparison.

I think us Flashback/Legends collectors are a very small part of the overall market these days... it's kind of proven by the way a lot of FB figures shelf-warm - and the fact that these HOF/HOC/Flashback type of lines keep being changed and cancelled all the time.
I'd like them to keep Flashbacks in the main line (1 or 2 per series), but primarily make them A-listers (like Sting and Foley in E62), as they always seem to sell well. Then for any 1st time or more obscure FBs (eg. Sherri and Backlund*), make them 1 in every 3-4 cases (but NOT exclusive to any store)... that way, everyone has a chance of getting them - and they shouldn't hang around/shelf-warm.
(*Sherri and Backlund, although very well known to us long-term/hardcore fans, are not figures that the casual/current fan would know or be interested in)

im personally glad they are ending, as they never make the HOF characters they definitely have the right to make. i dont see why it can't rotate, though. Give us flashbacks at wal mart, and nxt at target. then the next year give us fan central at walmart and hall of champions at target. that way there is something for everyone. Seriously though. HOF ladies need to be released. its getting ridiculous.

Only mistake they’ve ever made is not releasing the Gooker.

•It trips me out that some people consider double retail price "not ridiculously high". It might be time to join the scalpers, sounds really profitable!
•"Second class citizen" is too dramatic. From what I remember, that's a term that applies to discrimination involving politics, like the Nazis discriminating against the Jews. Way too strong a word.
When you're at work and the boss says he's ordering pizza for everyone, he doesn't order 5 Tofu and 5 Sausage pizzas. He orders 8 Sausage, 1 Veggie, and 1 half-n-half Tofu/Mayonnaise lol. It's not discrimination, it's sensibility.
•If they make a line called "Flashbacks", I think it's reasonable to expect they regularly release some old wrestlers in that line. But an attire from a year ago could be considered a "flashback" too. I think Mattel could define what that line is for so collectors know what to expect.
I'm an age where I have no attachment to the wrestlers from early 90s and before, so I don't mind if they release a Beth Phoenix, or Bailey with long hair. It bugs me when Cena/Roman figs keep coming, but they're huge sellers, those sales help keep the line alive so we can get stuff we actually want.

I hate that people always try to turn this into an either/or argument. A successful line needs diversity - that's why we see flashbacks, NXT, cruiserweights, etc. This isn't the 80's or 90's. There are far fewer buyers buying far fewer toys; the best way to counteract that is to diversify your customer base as much as possible.
It's the buffet approach - a little something for everybody. Buy what you like, pass on what you don't.

They make very few for that minority. It's a way to keep you people spending your money. It ain't rocket science. Same reason pizza hut sells fries. Because everyone ain't gonna eat pizza. But I bet the fry sales don't equal or surpass the pizza sales.

The problem with this argument on a message board is that it does not and should not be a bloodbath of modern vs. classic characters.
There are a lot of people that want figures of the current product. Great! There are also a lot of people that want figures of classic wrestlers. Great! (Every time people state as a fact that there aren't many legends collectors, it's a blanket statement with no clear proof. The Jakks Classic line was the lifeblood of the entire Jakks WWE line, and a lot of WWE Flashbacks go for the highest prices on eBay, etc. There's a lot of passionate legends collectors. Sid rots shelves, Randy Orton had the worst peg-warmer of all-time in Elite 12. It happens to both sides.)
Modern collectors are going to get their figs in the traditional basic/elite lines -- always! And that's cool! Us collectors who focus on legend figs have reason to be frustrated because Mattel's strategy since the beginning of making legends/flashback figs (remember some of those Legends 1 decisions?!) has been flawed and it's resulted in a ton of sub-lines that come and go.
We're not asking for only legends figs. Way more modern figs will be made, we get it! We just want a piece of the pie, and there's no reason we shouldn't get some legends figs on a more consistent basis ALONG with all the modern figs coming out. It's not an either/or proposition.
