I used to be this way. But now I keep up with neither.

It's all so cookie cutter, from the matches to the stories. Athletically, the talent today is lightyears ahead of where most wrestlers were 15-20 years ago. But most matches lack even basic psychology - wearing down a body part, heels bending the rules to their advantage, building intensity throughout the match to tell a story. It's just a sequence of spots thrown together, and the suspension of belief is just too much for me. It seems like every single wrestler does a suicide dive. But most of them look like garbage. Same with the top rope dive to the outside, where a crowd of wrestlers patiently wait for 5 seconds staring at the person in the ring until they are in position. The "WWE style" just makes nearly every wrestler feel the same in and out of the ring. With that said, I think executed well the modern style can be amazing. The Almas/Gargano and Revival/DIY matches in NXT over the last couple of years had me legitimately on the edge of my seat in suspense. And the recent series of Flair/Becky Lynch matches were right up there for me as well. But that's like a couple of diamonds in a landfill of matches that all feel like carbon copies. Very well said. I think you could replace any wrestler with any other wrestler and the match would be the same. When I was growing up every wrestler had a distinctive style which was great. And you are spot on about story-telling and psychology of yesteryears and that today is all about the high spots. It’s not enough to simply be a good wrestler anymore. Everyone on the roster can wrestle. The roster lacks creativity and psychology, whether it’s the fault of the performers, writers, or agents is the question.

I'm with you, but I mostly collect from the ~1985-1995 era.

I haven’t watched more than a half an hour of wrestling in one sitting in over a year I haven’t sat down and watched a Raw or SD in about a year. I’ll watch most of the PPVs, especially the big ones, but there’s just too much content to keep up with now.

It's unfortunate that I haven't been able to watch current WWE programming for quite some time. When Lesnar came back he had some real buzz around him was the last time I watched a full RAW. I'm mostly a Flashback/Retro collector, so my prime years were the golden age/attitude era. I find myself re-watching old SNME's, PPV from 85-95.

I watch the little 10 minute highlights of RAW and Smackdown, and I try to watch the PPVs because they are usually half decent. WWE only really tries to put on 12-15 wrestling shows, the rest are just filler until each of the shows. Now NXT is a different story.

As a long time wrestling fan, I’m shocked I’m this disinterested. It’s so uninteresting:(

Yes sadly. I like the older stuff - attitude era and ruthless aggression. WWE is sometimes too disney channel in their level of aggression and hardly any story lines these days are good. I can make up better matches and stories with toys than they can. It's really sad because we have such talented wrestlers but they don't let them have freedom anymore.
