Yeah. 2 of everyone I believe. Maybe only 1 of Rey but they had the entire set on the shipper because I looked at all of them. I contemplated Edge and Rey and put them back. I eventually grabbed that Edge and a second Punk to open but I saw them all on that first day.

I remember my girlfriend at the time was super pissed that I left the house super early to go looking for Mattels. She thought I was kidding until I came back with all of series 1, a ring and a few elites. Good times.

Awesome post.
I remember when the line first started. I was young. I remember seeing on spam “Mattel coming soon” I was like what the hell is this?!
Needless to say, I’ve colleted the line ever since the beginning. First ever Elite I remember buying was Elite 2 Batista at Target. First ever Mattel I believe was a flex force Rey Mysterio with the breakable ring. Pretty cool nostalgic stuff.

I was able to snag a few at TRU about a week or two prior to 2010. I was so impressed by the elite undertaker that I had to go to the next room and show my sister. I was 23 at the time and she was 26 lol. I had sold off mostly all of my Jakks prior and told myself I was only going to get a few gems. 9 years later, I’ve bought, sold, traded and rebought 100s of Mattels! I can honestly say that I’m slowing down now, but I’ll probably get at least 20 new figs in the new year, not including the three I bought as part of the New Years sale!

I remember the start of the line on New Year's Day really well. I left work early in the afternoon, end of the football season/locker cleanout day for me as a sportswriter. Stopped by the nearby TRU and there was a huge display setup. I had only gotten halfheartedly back into collecting right at the end of Jakks line and wasn't sure if I was gonna get into Mattels (I wasn't blown away by the prototypes).
They had all the Elite 1/Basics 1/Two-packs 1 (amazing how easy it was to find these ... distribution!) and I was pretty instantly won over, though it's funny how things quickly changed. At first I liked the basics and bought a few of those, the ab crunch on the elites originally turned me away. A few days later I went back to another store and grabbed the Undertaker elite ... then Edge ... and we were off and running. A few months after that I realized collecting all the basics would be absolutely impossible and adjusted accordingly (don't think I'm alone there, I think a lot of us at first thought we'd try to keep up with everything).
Oh, and going back to that first day -- my car died on the way home from TRU, so I drove home going 20 mph on the thruway just praying I could make it back to my old apartment. So I arrived with a busted up car and bags full of action figures. My girlfriend at the time was none too pleased, lol.

...remember how insane distribution was nine years ago? I was finding those numbered belts everywhere!

i remember half this board going crazy thinking that mattel would produce inferior products compared to jakks. many still hated mattel when they 1st came out.
mattel gas done a decent job but looking st a figure from elite 1 to current elites there isint a huge difference besides the new face printing

I didnt like how they were changing companies, so the first Mattel I bought was a B1 John Cena a few months after it was released on Jan 1 2010. I ended up selling the figure, but I wish I didnt as that is still the best headscan they made for Cena and I could use it for a headswap with his new hideous Elites.

The Kip James, Sting, Christian and Bobby Roode figure from those waves are better looking than anything Mattel has done for those guys.

I held off on collecting till late 2011 because I thought the figures we're too expensive and now I pay more for the figures than they we're then lol

Didn’t collect until maybe a year and a half ago. Though I do have an Elite 1 Edge. I just happened to buy it way back then because I thought it looked great.

I was pretty upset that Jakks lost the license. Had almost every figure from that line. What finally got me to bite on Mattel’s hook was Legends series 1 Ricky the Dragon Steamboat. After that I was hooked and a few weeks later I bought the rest of Legends series 1.

I remember going and buying the battle packs Shawn vs Jericho, Miz/JoMo, and basic Kofi. Then I found Elite Taker and Rey, and it was on from there. Rey was one of my absolute favorite figures of all time. I still can’t believe how bad we all expected the Mattel line to be lol
