I didn't like them at all. I was super mad that they looked different to my Jakks collection. In August 2010 my brother happened to get a basic Undertaker. I really liked the detail on it and a few months later I asked for a basic Chris Jericho for Christmas. I opened it up and LOVED IT (save for the huge kneepads haha). The main thing I liked was how in scale he was with that basic Taker since my Jakks versions were the same height. Now my shelves are full of Elites with no Jakks figures in sight!

I remember my girlfriend at the time was super pissed that I left the house super early to go looking for Mattels. She thought I was kidding until I came back with all of series 1, a ring and a few elites. Good times. If she doesn’t support your bad collecting habits, she’s not the one 😂

She said “Treat yo self.” She is an enabler 😂

I didn't find about about Mattel until towards the end of 2009, i didn't even know Jakks was being replaced. In October 09 i read about it and was worried that they'd have different articulation, be majorly out of scale and not look good. But when i saw the pics of Elite 1 i loved them.
Then in November 09, i went to Toyworld and they had the whole Basic 1 set, at the time i thought i was a super lucky person to get them so early so i ended up getting Triple H, Kofi, Big Show & Batista. Though i did like the Basics back then, i still preferred Jakks (For the meantime). Batista's attire was enough to turn him Face in my Fed. Early January 2010 i got Punk off Ebay and it was my favourite figure for a long time. The rest of Elite one were at Toyworld (Aside Rey) so i got them.
Good times... (Then the rest of 2010 happened lmao)

Wow 9 years! That’s crazy. I wasn’t thrilled at first. I was so used to Jakks. It took me about a year or two to actually get into Mattel. I had decided that I wasn’t going to collect anymore. At first I started with the females only. Then I finally got into the guys.

I collected Jakks since the BCA days. They were a ton of fun as a kid. Kept collecting through all the following iterations and really thought they nailed it with the RA style. When they lost the license, I said I wasn’t starting over, so I pretty much quit on wrestling figures all those years ago. I bought about 10 Mattel figures in the early years. HOF Austin. A few Punks. A Jericho. Mainly my favorites at the time. I honestly don’t even remember buying them, but I have them. I never thought they were or would be bad. In fact, they looked like the wrestling figures I dreamed of having. Elites, anyway.
A few years ago, I decided to sell off almost my entire Jakks collection. I saved a few of my favorites for posterity and unloaded everything else. I was getting out of wrestling because Punk left and I figured my actual favorite wrestler would never be back.
But then, Kurt Angle came back. And he was getting a debut outfit figure. I told myself I’d only buy Angles from Mattel. Then I found myself hunting the Team Angle version. Then I see an Evolution era Triple H is coming. I need it. Then the New Age Outlaws are on the shelves at Target? I need them. Then I see these holiday sales on Ringside. Between them and eBay, I probably bought myself about $250 worth of Elite Christmas presents. Fortunately, I’m keeping this collection to Attitude Era/early Ruthless Aggression Era so after this splurge, I can cherry pick from here on out.

I was going around all the toy stores here every day from late December. Nothing at all, until some Flexforce dropped in early Jan. I caved and bought a bunch of figures online:
Elite series 1 all except MVP Glamarella two-pack HBK vs Y2J two-pack
Then shortly after, the figs turned up in stores. Great times.

I remember how funny it was all of the folks on here losing their crap, claiming they were done forever with wrestling figures because the WWE had the gall to award the license to someone else like it was the first time the license had changed hands.
I think though, Mattel won many of these types of people over pretty quickly.

I think though, Mattel won many of these types of people over pretty quickly. Jakks had the license for 13 years, so making the switch was tough. And we have people today wishing Mattel can make a Legends roster like Jakks did.

I remember not being too impressed with mattel's initial offerings...mainly because my first figure was the entrance greats HHH (the Conan the Barbarian attire) and literally the second I opened it and was testing out the joints, the wrist immediately snapped off. So that really soured my first impression.
But once I got the first basic Y2J and Kane, I was hooked. The attention to scale blew me away. Then it was the elites, then it was the legends line/flashbacks, and i've been a fan ever since!!

During Christmas 2009 a TRU mistakenly put out series 1 all that was left was Evan Bourne and Big Show, I got both of them after I said I wasn't going to start another line. Then Jan 1 2010 hit went to TRU, Kmart and got a few others. TRU sent out coupons in the mail for the rewards r us so I got everything else I needed, the manager of the store did what ever he did with the coupons I got elites and twin packs for about 7.99. Out of all I got that first month Finlay wasn't great to skinny.

Enjoyable reading the memories you guys have of the line’s launch - I was so long since out of collecting figures that it’s not something I can relate to, but it’s interesting to hear how things happened back then. I sympathise completely with those of you who felt burned about the end of the Jakks line - I remember vividly those feelings when the Hasbro line ended. Jakks didn’t really arrive near me in the UK until deep into the Attitude Era so I don’t know if I would’ve made that switch myself if I had had them in front of me in stores, but I remember 11 year old me being very reluctant to start all over again with a new collection, especially given how much I loved my Hasbros. By the time Jakks arrived near me in any great numbers it was years later and I was fully into customising Hasbros so it was too late; you guys facing the actual temptation of the usurpers in the flesh had a real decision to make

I remember I was back in Buffalo for holiday break from school in the UK. The first I saw of them was 1/1, and I was hungover like a mfer after New Years night with my best friend. I went out early to the two TRUs in my area. Between them got Glamarella, E1 Rey, E1 MVP, E1 Taker, E1 Edge, and basic Kofi and HHH (I hated Punk even way back then, so there was no way I was buying him). I didn't like most of the heads compared to Jakks and switched a couple, but loved the scale. I always hated having Rey figures that were almost as tall as Undertaker. Finally remedied! This only started the craze, as I ended up bringing a TON of figs home in September when I left the UK after graduating. I miss those days, and the UK. Today I barely buy, barely watch wrestling, and am barely on here...but I still want that Harley Race. So the moral is...F you Mattel, you used to be cool. Your figures used to be available.

Mattel took over the license I remember sitting by my computer when 12 struck and Ringside and Mattel debuted Elite Series 1 and Battle Packs and Basics. Seeing that CM Punk and MVP was awesome. And I was worried like most when I thought it was gonna be a giant barbie style figure. Since its nye thought i would see just who remembers the night mattel launched wwe figures. I remember RSC Tom and his goofy glasses.
