Slick
Slick would come onto the WWF scene in the Fall of 86 alongside Butch Reed(who was hot off his Mid South run). Freddie Blassie around this time was wrapping his managing career due to his health and with that Slick would take over the managing services for Nikolai Volkoff and Iron Sheik. He would also have Hercules in his stable briefly but would sell him to Bobby Heenan before years end. At WM III he would lead Butch Reed into battle against in Koko B Ware in which Reed would pick up the win. Post match however was bad for Slick as Tito Santana would come down post match and tear off his clothes. That Spring he would gain a new member to his stable in the form of the big 747 himself One Man Gang. This would be a big cue for Slick as Gang early in his run was built up as a monster. During this year as well he would dabble into commentary a bit with Gorilla Monsoon on house shows. IMO he never quite fit in with this role.
1988 was a big year for Slick as the OMG would come close in becoming champ in the WM IV tournament. That Spring we would be introduced to his latest find in the Big Boss Man who like Gang a year earlier was built up as a monster.Boss Man would get his first big win at SSlam that year against Koko B Ware. That Fall he would manage The Twin Towers which was the Boss Man and Akeem(gimmick change for OMG). This was the time Slick was in the main event scene as his men would feud with the Mega Powers which would lead to the big main event of SSeries that year. One of his Slick's biggest matches as manager was the infamous Main Event match from February 89 in which his Towers fought the Mega Powers which resulted in the classic Savage heel turn. That Spring he would manage newly turned heel Rick Martel until the end of the year in which Martel entered his model gimmick.
1990 saw the end of the Twin Towers as Boss Man would turn babyface leading up to WM VI leading to a match between him and Akeem at the event in which Boss Man would pick up the win. It was also during this time he would acquire the Warlord from Mr. Fuji. By the Summer he would get another team in his stable in the form of Paul Roma and Hercules Power and Glory.By the Fall Akeem would be gone and by this point this is when Slick's manager run was winding down. In 1991 his man Warlord would enter a feud with British Bulldog which would culminate at WM VII in which Davey Boy would win.His last big match as manager would come at SSlam that year when the 3 guys left in his stable Warlord/Power and Glory would lose to Davey Boy,Texas Tornado and The Dragon in the opener. On Prime Time Wrestling that October he would be powerslammed by the Bulldog in his match with the Warlord which wrote him off TV for a bit before he came back as the Reverend late in the year. From there he was done with managing as he was mainly used as a host on PTW during the shows last legs in 1992. In early 1993 he briefly returned to managing as he managed newly turned babyface Kamala. It was weird seeing Slick in the babyface role during this time I'll say that. This didn't last long however as Slick would be gone by the Spring.
Overall...I enjoyed the hell outta Slick. Such an underrated and entertaining as hell manager during the Golden Era.Wouldn't mind seeing him getting a HOF nod down the line.

As a kid, I saw Boss Man as a huge bully and heel. Akeem, I knew he was a bad guy, and thought there was something weird about him being white and African (I know there are white Africans in Zimbabwe and South Africa).
But Slick... He never came across as a heel to me at all. He wasn't super in your face like Jimmy Hart, or sneaky like Heenan, or vicious like Fuji could be. I liked him a lot - very cool manager
He would have been a great manager for Val Venis

I loved hearing him talk. With that lisp & the way he would stumble saying big words, he sounded like a 70s pimp.
My favorite memory is when he sang the Russian national anthem one time on Superstars of Wrestling. It was so ridiculous, but so damn funny.
Long live the Doctor of Style!

I'm surprised Kwang is doing so well but I guess since Kid is a Kliq/NWO/DX member we've heard so much about him all ready. I'm a huge Kid fan as a wrestler and as a person so any news is happy news for me but especially since those in power as his boys Kid's/X-Pac's name will always be very prominent in wrestling/WWE history books.
I also enjoyed Kwang and Savio Vega too and really like him as a person much like Kid. Savio was around during a crappy time for wrestling and I think really did his best to work with the storylines or gimmicks given him at the time. Razor Ramon was my #1 good guy I liked in 1995 but Savio was just behind him for me.
I think Kwang would have done better 10 years earlier as a territory guy brought in for short periods of time with more menacing way about him, especially with the mist. He also needed a better manager during the time period. A healthy Mr. Fuji would have worked well. Wippleman was, as Homer Simpson says a "stink of failure." Did he ever manage anyone noteworthy? I wouldn't count Sid Justice because Sid was so over by himself, Wippleman was basically "just there." I also wouldn't count Bertha Faye as I think that gimmick was purely to make Vince McMahon do his "har har har har" laugh in the boardroom.

Kwang
Kwang would make his way into the Federation at the 1994 Royal Rumble entering at number 4. He would not last long however as he would be tossed out by the MVP of this particular Rumble in Big Daddy Cool Diesel. From there he would have his first official one on one match on Wrestling Challenge a week later. He would go on to have matches with top names in the company like Bret Hart and Razor Ramon that Spring but would end up on the losing end.His biggest feud would come with Adam Bomb after he accidently cost Bomb a spot in the KOTR tourney.I remember this feud lasting all Summer that year. The feud would culminate at SSlam in a dark match with Bomb picking up the win.Wouldn't be surprised to see this pop up in the Hidden Gems section one day.The last big match that I can recall from this run is a match with Undertaker that September on Raw.Cool spot near the end of the match with Taker no selling the mist with him then spitting it back into Kwang's face.He would enter the 95 Rumble at number 9 but like a year prior wouldn't last long as he would be eliminated by Sionne aka Barbarian. After this he would pretty much fade into obscurity. That May at the first In Your House he was repackaged as Savio Vega and just like that the short run of Kwang was over.
Overall... The mist and his great spin kick aside, I wasn't a fan of this gimmick.

LOL@ Kwang, the Puerto Rican ninja. He had a nice mask...and thats about it. If Mattel ever made a Ninja Superstars line, he would make a great figure in the first wave along with Glacier, Avatar and Great Sasuke.

The Kwang match with Adam Bomb should have been on summerslam. Give the guys a chance to showcase themselves. Save a dark match for a Brooklyn Brawler or Bob Holly. Kwang and Bomb were at least a little higher on the card as Holly. 1994 was also a summerslam with very little matches compared to the other ones so they could have used an extra. One odd thing I always remember about Kwang is his match with Bret Hart on the Raw after WrestleMania X was the debut of the new lighting system for entrances on Raw and other shows. The arena would go dark, moreso on Raw, and the lights would shine colorful lines along with logos of the wrestler into the ring. For some reason that gave me a horrible headache watching that, a real headache.
