Tugboat
Tugboat would make his way onto the WWF scene in early 1990 as ''Tugboat Thomas''. This name didn't last long and was shortened to just Tugboat not long after. During his first few months he would mainly face jobbers on both Superstars and Challenge. His big break came that Spring as they ran an angle with Hulk Hogan in which he announced he trained the Tugster. After Earthquake squashed Hogan on the Brother Love Show, Tugboat would appear on TV asking the fans to send in their cards and letters in support of the Hulkster getting back into the ring.I remember them plugging this really hard that Summer. He was supposed to be in the corner of Hogan at SSlam that year but right before the event on Superstars he was taken out by Earthquake and Dino Bravo. This would lead to the Big Boss Man taking his place at the event. He would return that Fall with his first big match back being with Hogan against Rhythm and Blues on an episode of SNME. They would get the win by DQ.
At SSeries that year Tugboat would be apart of the Hulkamaniacs as they faced the Natural Disasters. he would last near the end before being eliminated by countout after brawling with Earthquake on the floor. In 91, He participated in the Rumble and got a late entry but wouldn't last long as he would be thrown out by Hogan. After this he would start a brief feud with Undertaker that at one point was advertised for WM VII but in the end got scrapped. He did face em however on SuperTape 4. That Spring on SNME he tried to get revenge on Hogan by eliminating him in a battle royal but in the end he would would come up short in this task. His last big one on match would come on Challenge that May as he would challenge Mr. Perfect for the IC Title but would fail to win the belt. That June on Superstars in a 6 man tag with the Bushwhackers against Earthquake and Nast Boys, He would turn heel and cost his team the match. This would lead to the end of Tugboat and the birth of Typhoon.
Overall... Even though I liked his run as Typhoon more, Looking back I didn't mind Tugboat. You could tell they saw something in em when they put him with Hogan for his feud with Quake. It was a harmless gimmick that was over for a time and for that deserves an entry here in the Retrospective.

Tugboat was over for a while just for being a Friend of Hogan and the Hulkamaniacs Survivor Series team with Hulk Hogan, Tugboat, Big Bossman and Hacksaw Jim Duggan was an underrated team. They just had the misfortune if you could call it that of being on the same show with the greatest SS team in the Warriors (Ultimate Warrior, Texas Tornado, Legion of Doom). But with Hogan about to leave the company to make movies, turning him heel had to be done, even though I was upset about it at the time.

I'm glad we didn't get Hogan/Tugboat Sheik or whatever name they had for em as the main event of WM VII.

I'm glad we didn't get Hogan/Tugboat Sheik or whatever name they had for em as the main event of WM VII. Agreed, that probably would have been the worst Main Event in Mania history. Like Brother Love said, thank god for Sgt. Slaughter. Slaughter returning when he did changed the angle of Sheik Tugboat. As for Tugboat, he was good for what he was. He was over pretty good, mostly because he was aligned with Hogan. I am surprised they never tried an evil bully type character with him like Bluto from Popeye.
