One Man Gang
The origins of the Gang would begin in the Mid-Atlantic territory. He would face the likes of Jimmy Valiant and Bugsy McGraw. His biggest win here though would be winning the tag belts with Kelly Kiniski as they defeated the team of Mike Rotunda and Rufus R Jones. They would only hold em though for a few months before losing em to Rufus and Bugsy during the Summer of 83.From there it was on to Florida where he would have his classic feud with Dusty Rhodes. It was also here where he would win more gold in the form of the Brass Knuckles belt(remember this??!!) and another tag belt along with Ron Bass.Other spots he would show up would be WCCW(where he would battle legends like Kerry Von Erich and Bruiser Brody) and Mid- South where his biggest success would be winning the UWF Title. He would lose it to future WWF partner Ray Traylor who was Big Bubba Rogers during this time.
His biggest known fame though of his career would come with his arrival in the WWF during the Spring of 87.He would get a very strong push out the gate with him squashing not only jobbers but attacking refs as well! His biggest feud was with Don Muraco later that year when he would kayfabe end the career of Billy Graham. This would lead to the big main event at the SSeries with OMG being on team Andre as they defeated the Hulkamaniacs. He would have a good beginning in early 88 as he would come close to winning the first Rumble before being eliminated by Jim Duggan. He also went to the semi-finals in the WM IV WWF Title tourney before losing to Randy Savage. He was pencilled in to feud with Bam Bam Bigelow following this stemming from the match they had at Mania but nothing came of it.He would do nohing of note following this with by the Fall the Gang would be no more and in would come Akeem.
We wouldnt see the Gang character until his WCW return in early 91 where he would join up with Kevin Sullivan. This time around he was more crazy with makeup around his eyes.He main feud during this brief run would be with El Gigante. He was going to be in the infamous Chamber of Horrors at Havoc but would be fired shortly before it for refusing to lose to PN News( check out his entry!) He would return one more time to WCW in late 95 with him actually winnng the US Title in early 96.He would only have for it about a month before losing it to Konan. He would leave the promotion for good not long after. He wouldnt do much else after this besides a very brief run in ECW in 98,a match against Abdullah the Butcher at the horrible Heroes of Wrestling show in 99 and his last WWF appearance in the gimmick battle royal at WM 17.He would retire during this time but would come back one more time in 2007 on the indy scene. He would retire in 2009.
Overall...Hell of a run here for the big 747. I was always a fan thats for sure. Such a fun character and a great one to end the Retrospective here.
