Would be good to get a pre WWF write up of Bobby Heenan. Maybe the origins of the weasel suit (my memory’s terrible but I believe it started in another territory).

Heenan in the AWAThis run right here humanoids would be the start of one very legendary career. He would join the company in 1969 but it wasnt till 1974 in which it really got going. It was during that year in which he would manage Nick Bockwinkel and Ray ''The Crippler'' Stevens to tag team gold.Gold they would have a total of 3 times under his guidance. It was also during this time the Heenan Family would be born. It consisted of Bockwinkel,Stevens, Lanza and Duncum. From there in 75 he would hit his first big mark by managing Nick Bockwinkel to the World Title after he defeated Vern Gagne ending his long reign.LOVED these two together as both were gold during promos. Bockwinkel would go on to be a 4x time champ total when it was all said and done. All but one under the guidance of Bobby. Not only would he manage but he would also wrestle during this time. Usually in tag matches with his men and in battle royals.Seeing him duck ands dodge in the battle royals was great stuff.Classic Brain. It was also during his time in the AWA here in which he would get a nickname that would stick with him for the rest of his career(unfortunately). That name you ask? Well....''Weasel''.A name given to him by Dick The Bruiser. From there he would have weasel suit matches with him always on the losing end.He would be knocked out with the babyface putting him in the suit. It had claws and all! This is something the WWF would copy years later specifically with the Warrior. He would leave the company briefly in 79 but come back soon after once again managing Bockwinkel. The early 80s would also see Ken Patera and Mr. Saito joining the fold. The last big feud during Bobby's tenue here would come in the form of Bockwinkel/Hogan in 1983. A title Hogan would fail to win.You humanoids know I'm not a Hogan fan but him not getting the belt is still baffling. Following this both him and Hogan would leave and head to the WWF and the rest is history. Overall...This is Bobby we're talking about here.I cant praise the man enough. Both him and Flair are the main reasons why I became a fan of wrestling in the 1st place.Like I said in the past here...I will forever be a proud humanoid. What are your memories of Bobby in the AWA? Share em below!

An interesting read. Funny, it was Flair and Heenan that was the reason I became such a fan, albeit in a later era.
One phrase that always sticks in my mind when describing Heenan was that he wrestled like a manager and managed like a wrestler. Not sure who coined it first.
That was some big names he was associated with and really glad he got to manage a world champ (I don’t really count Flair in the WWF as one as Heenan didn’t seem as hands on with him).
Thanks for the write up Brain.

Gimmick extra! The Brain battles his Lordship
AWA TV circa January 1980Wow! I've never seen a Lord Alfred Hayes wrestling match. Nice. Dammit! Now I am going to need that Lord Alfred Hayes from Mattel to go with my weasel suit Heenan. Was too young to remember Heenan in the AWA, but him and Bockwinkel seemed like a natural fit. So, since I don't know anything about Heenan in the AWA, The Brain, who is your favorite guy that Heenan managed? Mine would be this guy:

I remember reading in Bobby’s book that he had one final meeting with the Gagnes before he left for WWF. In that meeting they said they’d throw him out the window. Heenan’s response “go ahead make my wife a wealthy woman” lol. They then said they were kidding
