As someone who was fiending for the Road Warriors to come to the WWF and feud with Demolition at that time, I thought these guys were more than a suitable substitute for Hawk and Animal. I was totally onboard and was hoping for an epic monster run. So yeah, pretty disappointed that they fizzled out pretty quickly.

The Powers of Pain were getting over huge as babyfaces until that double turn came out of nowhere. In the end, I guess they went with the right team for the big babyface push.

Yeah, I believe Ax even said that he felt both Demolition's turns were pre-mature. He felt they could have been a heel team a little longer before the face turn in 1988/89 and that they should have remained a babyface team a little longer in 1990 which could have helped set up the LOD/Demolition feud a little later for a WM7 match. But, with that being said, their face run from SSE88 to WM6 was tremendous, they were very over.

Powers of Pain were a cool team but I think they weren't good enough to be the top team in the WWF at that time. With the teams they had; Demolition, the Harts, the Rockers, the Brain Busters, those teams were all ahead of them in talent and ability. I remember watching a shoot interview with both of them and they said that when they were split they were both promised a run with Hogan and Warrior in singles matches, Barbarian would face Warrior and Warlord would face Hogan, though nothing ever came of it.

1 year and 64 gimmicks later! I'm really happy with this thread and it's great to see you humanoids are as well. Big thank you to everybody who ever read one of the entries/commented on a gimmick.
Many more to come in 2020!

Warlord and Barbarian were meant to have singles careers. You cant really say that about Ax and Smash.

I remember them teasing a feud between Warlord and Hogan during Fall of 91 but nothing ever came of it. They also teased Barbarian going after gold post Mania VI but again nothing came of it.

Earthquake was destined for big things and Rick Rude was so talented he needed to be in a big spot on the card but Barbarian and Warlord post split should have gotten a higher spot too. I would rather have seen Barbarian and Warrior than Warrior and Rude again.

And Ax did have a very good singles career prior to being Ax as the Masked Superstar.

When I think of his singles career, his stint as Axis the Demolisher in GWF comes to mind.

Here is there last match together, not good, not bad. Not sure why they didn't just bring them out as Powers of Pain, I'd imagine that Vince didn't own that name since they worked that gimmick before him.

But yeah I could tell it was them right off the bat.Shame they never got another run together as just Powers of Pain.

LA Times Yeah didn't they feud with Demo years back on the indy circuit? They did. Im glad all 4 are still alive, but wrestling each other 30 years later...yikes! Also, was it true that when the Road Warriors were negotiating to come to the WWF, they would only sign if Warlord and Barbarian were split up because their gimmick was too similar? Even as a kid, I knew for sure Demolition turned heel because of the Road Warriors coming in as babyfaces.

I do recall reading about but not sure if it's true but wouldn't be surprised if it was.Demo turning heel on the other hand definitely had to do with LOD coming in.
Still ticks me off how Vince just basically tossed them to the side after he got what he wanted in the end and that was LOD.

Agreed. But I think Ax's health also had a hand in that, shame too, since I don't hear anyone saying bad things about Eadie and Darsow, seems like they were true professionals.
