Colossal Connection
This Colossal team started their brief run together during the Fall of 89. This was around the time the Heenan Family were having problems in kayfabe after the Brain Busters lost the tag belts to Demolition on an episode of Superstars that October. Their first big match together was in the main of the SSeries that year as part of the Family to take on the Warriors. The babyfaces would prevail in the end but this team was just getting started. With the Busters now gone from the company, Heenan was determined to get the belts back so this set up the next tag title feud nicely. The Connection would get the belts from Demo on an episode of Superstars that December. After only a few months the Family got the belts back!!!
The run itself heading into 1990 was nothing to write home about as they usually just squashed poor ham n eggers on Superstars and Challenge.Haku would do the majority of the work with Andre coming in at the end to put the finishing touches on the match. With Andre's bad health at the time this was for the best. I liked how on PTW Gorilla would get on Heenan's case about this with Heenan putting it over as smart strategy. The feud with Demo would reach the climax at WM VI that year at Skydome in which the Connection's brief run on top would come to an end. The post match moment though is what is more talked about here as Bobby Heenan would make the grave mistake in slapping Andre with the big man then ''paint brushed em'' to quote Gorilla Monsoon to officially turn em babyface after over 3 years. Haku would try to aid his manager but Andre quickly took care of him as well. Great swan song for Andre here as the image of him on the cart heading up the aisle to cheers was such a nice moment. This would be the end of the Connection as after this Andre would retire from active WWF competition with him only wrestling in Japan going forward. Haku would go back to the single ranks for the remainder of the year.
Overall...I really enjoyed this team. Them feuding with my fav team ever in Demolition was the added bonus. To see Andre get a run with a belt here was great to see.The title run plus the babyface turn at Mania was one helluva swan song to his WWF run.

The whole was certainly greater than the sum of its parts. Andre was having mobility problems by this point and Haku had wallowed on the mid-card for years, but they were still believable as two nasty bruisers. They had some personality chemistry and their tag moves meshed well. IIRC, this was Andre's last title of any kind in the business.

Great write up my man I was so into their match with Demolition as a kid. It was crazy how popular Demolition were in that match. I always say that they were only behind Warrior and Hogan in terms of popularity then. I thought the idea of the Colossal Connection was clever as it managed to keep Andre around as an attraction.

I remember when Mean Gene messed up their name at WM 6. I forgot what he called them and I donβt know if it was a legit mess up or what?
I liked the team and glad they had a short run with the belts.
