I can’t post links but there is a guy on IG who collects prototypes and factory samples. He posted a picture of Vader just a bit ago and it is looking good! I think I might like it even better than what was shown at Axxess.

so are mattel just never making the hasbro/retro rings again? considering the time frame of the nwo figures and some of the other recent figures, a wcw or wwe attitude/new gen ring could be cool... Steve answered this in the Q&A at least once -- it was a "we'll see" answer. The response to recent waves hasn't been that great -- I am guessing Wave 3 didn't sell that well, so I doubt it UNLESS it's an RSC exclusive. But that seems like a big risk for them.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case, actually... that set seemed to cater just (or mainly) to the hardcore Hasbro collectors, rather than Retro/WWE collectors as a whole. Thankfully they seem to be back on track with Series 4...👍 |

Retros are such a strange beast. Wave 3 was IMO a homerun (aside from Lex) - I mean, we got a cool Doink, TUGBOAT and R&B Valentine with new tooling.
Wave 1 was fine by me. I was happy to get a Mr. T which I feel NAILED his likeness better than 99% of all other retros. Mean Gene was fantastic.
And then Wave 2... I'm still frustrated we got a Hart Foundation from 1988 instead of 90/91. Like, WTF.
I'm glad the nWo set seems universally approved, and I think Wave 4 looks fantastic. Perhaps they will lean into the 96-98 era more. I suppose that's when the product began gaining steam with the masses as opposed to 93/94...whatever the case may be, I hope the train can keep rolling.

So, with it looking like the SDCC exclusive figure may be Muhammad Ali Wrestlemania 1 referee - is it possible the next retro wave is:
- Hogan
- Richter
- Ali referee
- Mr Wonderful or Captain Lou
Pretty solid mania 1 theme, and they did similar with Mr T iirc…

I really hope this doesn't happen. We already got a set themed like that with Piper, Mr. T. Orton, and Mean Gene.
I'd be interested in Albano only, but wouldn't buy the set. Personally, I hope series 4 (Lawler, Vader) is a huge hit, and this one flops, so Mattel and Action Figure Attack can see what eras collectors really want. |

My other thought was that they might want to include another female so they don't go all Southpaw Regional Wrestling with Wendi, but I think it's likelier they'll reuse that figure with Sherri or Alundra Blayze in the next bundle instead. Had Moolah been an option then maybe they'd have gone with her as a natural match-up with Wendi, but I don't think there's really anyone else from her era? I naturally want all the bundles to be a great success, but I agree though that I hope we see another New Gen set soon after this upcoming set. |

Fair -- set one did have Mean Gene, and was the first time they were back. Maybe it would still do as well now, esp. for Mean Gene, but I don't know.
Series 3 figures were probably the worst executed line so far. I didn't buy that set -- first time I didn't buy any Retros from a wave ever. Interested to see if Series 4 sells out -- I doubt it, but the figures are so much stronger, so I hope it does

I would like a Zeus retro especially if he has a similar deal to Mr. T. I'm not sure if it would sell well since it's mostly figures made in one form before but a SummerSlam 89 set? Hogan, Beefcake, Zeus, Macho Man.

You could be right on the females front; but a referee may not require a new mould - this custom was pretty straight forward, just requiring removing jacket & tie and sculpting a bow tie:  |

I mean I really don't want Ali in the line, but I would buy the set as a completist so it wouldn't do me a lot of good as a "protest vote" lol. I'm pretty lenient on who they include in the retro world, I like the idea of a big, wide-ranging figfed. Essentially all I ask is that they stick to WWE/WCW/ECW characters. We don't get nearly enough of these to start including Muhammad Ali. I love Ali as a boxer, I proudly display his Funko next to guys like Babe Ruth and Michael Jordan on my "GOATs" shelf, but he's not a wrestler. I really don't have any desire to see him get inserted into every line like Mr. T has been. What's next ring announcer Billy Martin?? Time-keeper Liberace??

When is SDCC?
Are we likely to get the Hogan, Ritcher wave finished and the next wave teased?
It will definitely be Mania 1 theme, which is cool but I'd love a DX similar to the NWO pack or pick out events as special box sets, Summerslam with Zues,more Mania sets, or a champions pack with belts, or managers set.

I think a DX set would be far more likely as RSC exclusives (like the NWO 2-pks): you could mix and match between Shawn, Triple H, Chyna, Rude, X-pac, and the Outlaws... Personally, I'd go with Triple H & Chyna, and Shawn & Rude. |
