The WWE/TMNT figures wouldve worked if it had been Playmates late 80s/early 90s style or even the TMNT 6" Classic Collection style. I like Donatello and Ultimate Warrior, but Im not interested in the new cartoon style where Donatello was missing a tooth. Calling it Ninja Superstars just because they didnt want to have the word wrestling in the name of the line didnt help either. There was nothing ninja or superstar about those figures. I remember using General Tragg as a monster heel to face Hasbro Hulk Hogan. Hey, I was in 4th grade lol That's so funny. Super Shredder was the top heel in my Hasbro fed for at least six years (my fed continued well into my early high school years, which I am less ashamed to admit than I should be), which is of course interesting in the sense that I was longing for a Diesel Hasbro for much of that time, oblivious to the fact that Kevin Nash was already a 22 time World Champion in my fed. I definitely went outside of reason a few times in finding challengers for Hogan. Of all the actual Hasbros, I would say Warlord was his most consistent foil. But I was kind of drawn to booking him against people he'd never faced in real life, like the aforementioned Super Shredder and even the Jakks Goldust, which I introduced as some sort of Sentinel-type robot created to destroy Hulkamania. By that point, things were getting a little ludicrous, which was perhaps nature's way of telling me that my adolescent mind shouldn't be preoccupied with booking a fig fed.

You know, Hasbros didn’t sell well either. Many Kay Bee Toys were 3 for $10. They had bins and bins of them. Series 11 seemed to only hit Hills. I never remember seeing anything other than blue and green cards in my area.
The sky could have been the limit with the new retros, it’s too bad!

And I hope we see something in a few months and not a few years. It isn't like this is some dumb side line like zombies or hee man ugh. There was alot of hype and excitement for the line. It was just executed so poorly and distribution and overproduction (S3 and S7 mainly) really did it in. I hope they can come back with a reboot w/ changes like 8 guys per series, and more emphasis on flashbacks, especially from around the Hasbro time frame w/ maybe a couple years on each side like 87-88 era guys and 94-96 guys. Got a few guys to fit in mainly Taker, Macho in green, Goldust, Austin, Diesel, JYD, and Flair (sorta guess his attire never really changed much so he could fit into almost any era). Even if it's an online exclusive, which is basically what it's been anyway for most series.

Hasbros were hot, maybe not as much in the last year or 2, but that's pretty much because WWF's business was way in decline by then. They also suffered somewhat from poor distribution and overproduction of certain figures/series. Rockers and Bushwackers killed off the 2 packs pretty much. And I never saw yellow, or green cards locally. And red BARELY showed up at a local grocery chain. Plus today it's pretty much just Walmart and Target to carry these. Back in the early 90's we had KayBee, TRU, Kiddie City, plus they had Hasbros at pretty much all the bigger grocery stores and pharmacies too.

Something that actually makes you feel hesitant and sad about ripping open the packaging lol.

I wasn't really thinking of it though since I don't have much hope of it haha. There are phenominal Hasbro quality custom cards available though.

Did we ever see the grey 92 Taker from the front? To me that's the biggest casualty of the line, and I think we only got a picture of him from behind in a retro ring that was canned. I think this was the closest we got to seeing it from the front: Taker was supposed to be released on his own, not with the ring, but plans changed. Wow!! Thanks for this. Hard to tell, but looks like a new scan. The shad of grey they used is way too light. And the purple on the hat does not belong. But I guess none of that matters now. Thanks again.

It’s just a repaint, hence the purple hat band. The original plan was to rerelease S1 and 2 as repaints as the app codes were added in S3. This is why we got a more or less useful Kevin Owens repaint for example.

For what it’s worth, someone online has created a petition to ensure the Retro line continues / comes back. I guess signing and sharing it wouldn’t hurt the cause in voicing our opinions. chng.it/SKkb7MPHKz

I assume distribution issues, but how is that not fixable?

Nobody said it was cancelled. If you read through you'll see i was told it is coming back in some form, somewhere.

I am definitely trying to keep positive after all of the mixed reactions on here, signed the petition and all. We did get 10 series. Maybe they're going to put more effort into the series now after the "hiatus"?? For what it's worth I did get a lot of joy out of the line. It made me feel like I was a kid again. Hopefully it will continue in the future.

I think a lot of their decisions have to do with shelf space too. Elite, Basic & two packs have their slots and arent going anywhere. There's always 3 or so pegs for "filler" First Zombies, then Monsters, then we got Retros and now because of distribution issues they're looking for something "fresh" as they go with Ghostbusters & He-Man mashups. Best case scenario is likely letting those two lines rot so they are put on "hiatus" and maybe speeding up the process of bringing back Retros to fill that void again.

I think they might come back or there’s a good chance. Defining moments had a reboot, entrance greats. They’ll take a break to clear the stuff off release the he man and ghostbusters and revisit retros down the road

Like most things with Mattel, this went out with a thud. I think upping the price point and adding in the stupid app ultimately killed the line. Targets in my area still have a solid peg of Ambrose. If the lines don't make it to mass market retail, you're dead in the water. It's surprising that the line made it this far.
I think they could have done a lot more to market the line and nostalgia factor. The line clearly engaged some lapsed collectors/fans, but I have to think there was a bigger audience if they would have put any effort behind marketing it to those folks. Mattel's terrible distribution/marketing across the entire WWE line continues to astonish me.
