I'm hoping they are just waiting until Sunday to show new Retros since the first year they showed them it was on Sunday.

I really hope they continue this line. Worse case scenario, we’ve seen Mattel drop plenty of lines and then come back to them a little later (Entrance Greats, Defining Moments, Legends Line etc)
This line was right on the cusp of taking off to me, they were adding a variety of guys and molds and really hitting stride. It feels like they may have pulled the plug on these a second before it turned around

I think they're done for good. If they were going to be brought back, they would have made a bigger deal of it and announced it during the panel. Seems like WWE MOTU has caught on and I suspect they're investing in that line.

SDCC 2020 @home what a bummer for Retros. Not even a word. As for the MOTU figures, they seem to do everything right. Great character choices. Jakes action feature is spectacular. So yeah, why weren't the wrestlers picked like this for Retros? Jake? Piper? T? On a cool note, just by looking at the Savages and Warrior MOTU, I'd say that's what a Retro head scan would look like for those guys. I'm getting a few to convert to Retros. Because when you look back on it, it was obvious Mattel never gave a sh*t about the line and did everything they could to sabotage it.

Mattel showed stuff from 7/20 through 7/23 and they were shown on the last day. The official coverage for that SDCC still exists on the main WF site, which kinda shocked me! wrestlingfigs.com/figurenews/mattel-wwe-display-from-sdcc-2016-7-23-16/

It sucks, but I think they're done. They put so much more into MOTU and picked better wrestlers. Where was Jake in the retro line? People have wanted a heel Jake hasbro for like 30 years. Roddy in blue trunks and Mr. T also would have been huge for retros. I don't really think they sabotaged the retro line, but whoever was the head of the line had no clue what they were doing. The proof is in the pudding. The choices for the wrestlers in the retro line ups and the attires (stuff like NWO Macho Man instead of the long tights Macho King) are a dead give away for someone who shouldn't have been in charge.
Hopefully they show something in the next few days. But get somebody who has a clue at the top of this line next time please. It doesn't take a mental giant to understand that you don't wait until the line is dead in the water to finally decide to put in Diesel.

Yeah, I've said it before, but guys like King Mabel, Jerry Lawler, USA Lex maybe even King Kong Bundy since he made a return around that time...any one of them I would have put in place of guys like Sami Zayn and Sheamus.🙄

Anybody with a brain would know that those are the figures that they should have made. I really don't know how such a simple concept could be botched so horrendously.

I believe Mattel thought it'd be the modern equivalent of what the original line was to us. They thought it would be driven by kid sales instead of collectors or people who remembered Hasbros, so they only sprinkled in the legends and tried to get all their current "stars" (I use the term loosely ). Conversely, maybe they realize MOTU/He-Man is from the 80s, so the people that remember it will be fans of guys like Ultimate Warrior and Roddy Piper more than Sammy Zayn and Sheamus. And what's sad is, if that's the case, they could have applied that logic to Retros, too, and they'd be killing it now.

I think this line would have benefit from some theming. gentlemanjohnny touched on something above in regards to nWo Macho Man. I think this line was too erratic. Say series 1 was 4 Golden Age wrestlers, and they marketed it to an era or more specifically a show. Like say, WrestleMania 3 series, It’s Hogan, Andre, Savage and Steamboat and they are all in their WM3 attires...that kind of organization is exactly what I love. You feel like even though they only made 4 figures, it’s a collection of its own because it’s all stars from WrestleMania 3. The obvious set back to this idea would be, well what if somebody doesn’t care for that particular show. It’s still just a Hogan, Savage etc so I don’t think it matters to somebody that DOES’NT like the show, but it definitely sells to somebody that likes Wrestling and collecting. And then I would just alternate, for the 2nd series do something more modern so you cater to all fans. If the Legends are moving more than the current guys, make more Legends series. Just do what’s selling Mattel tried to cater to everyone in each series and I feel like there wasn’t enough there for most people. Like why would I want nWo Macho Man when I have no other WCW guys? If they made a WCW series though, yea give me some WCW guys! I don’t know, just my thoughts

Yeah, looks like we’re done here. Just finished watching the Mattel Creations panel, which was a complete waste of time. No detail at all about the possibilities that AFA mentioned excited him, no mention about crowd-funding or unique figure lines on there or anything like that (though TBF my attention started to fade due to lack of actual content). Someone mentioned about the lack of shelf-space in Walmart or Target, etc., but otherwise it was all very bland and abstract. The whole thing was basically an advert for this year’s SDCC exclusives, all of which I think sold-out in like 12 seconds yesterday so even more pointless. Hopefully when the website launches in 48 days or whatever it is then we can see something in line with the Hasbro Pulse model, but at this point I’m not sure what the hell they’re going for here. The fact that Creations wasn’t mentioned in the WWE panel yesterday beyond the Mr T figure can’t be a good sign for what the WWE team are going to use it for. On WWE in general, I seriously doubt we’ll hear anything more interesting this weekend - I expect the next few days of reveals will just be a few figures from the main lines that haven’t been seen yet to fill-out whatever’s left in the series. I definitely can’t see them announcing the return of the Retros or the launch of a new line or something like that with a WWE.com gallery. So what does this mean for the future? Well if Mattel hadn’t kept us hanging from last year’s SDCC then I’d be ready to call it, but as long as we don’t hear a definitive “Not coming back” from the WWE team then there’s always going to be that slight chance. But realistically we’re now looking at 2022 at the earliest for a return (unless Mattel Creations ends-up being something useful, which I’m less confident about now than ever) - it’s a long time to keep the hope alive. Also the longer we go with no extension to the Mattel licence being announced then it might all be irrelevant anyway. On the upside, Jeremy at AEW keeps teasing a Retro line - I suggest we all go and bother him until he delivers one

One of these things is unlike the others applied a few times like this with Retros.

The line had so much potential but they really dropped the ball...

The line had so much potential but they really dropped the ball... I hear ya. In my mind the first wave is the hardest to accept because it’s most compared to the originals, which was a tough task in itself. After a few series though you start to just look at them for what they are and they start to become their own thing. I feel like that’s where these were at when they got canceled, they were starting to make a few people we hadn’t seen in the original line, so it was beginning to craft it’s own space in toy collecting. I feel Warrior was a mistake for a similar reason. I get what they were going for calling back to the original Hasbro figure in the green attire, but they should have made him in a completely different attire that Hasbro hadn’t done so it stood apart and wasn’t so directly comparable. I would have done a WrestleMania 6 Warrior because we never got it from Hasbro. Something to stand out, like they did with Taker. They made the purple which was good, we never got that.

Jake and Piper have already been release as Hasbro's. I think they were trying to avoid releasing guys we've already got in that form factor. If they just re-released the same guys already in the Hasbro line, that wouldn't work. I thought the mix was ok. Series 2 was great, then we got Iron Shiek,JYD, Diesel. They just needed to keep the line going and stop with the doubles, like Owens, Sting etc.. I too would prefer older guys but specifically guys that didn't get a Hasbro figure like Bundy, Dino Bravo, John Stud, Bad News Brown etc..

So while Mattel have let us down again this time, Chella Toys have posted images on Twitter today of their upcoming Retro-style figure of Nick Aldis; they're taking pre-orders now. I'm interested that they've limited the figure to 2,000 pieces, which seems quite a lot for a one-off figure but seems a sign that they recognise the support Retro figures have online, and they are prepared to put their faith in that market. Can't compare to Mattel of course as they don't release production numbers, though we do know that there were more series 3 figures produced than of any other action figure line ever

It's due in March I think.
