Yeah I've a couple of Aldis ordered, and recently ordered two of the Blue Meanie two-pack as well. I'm on the same page as hulkjoegan with these basically - the figures aren't perfect but that's not really a realistic expectation in the circumstances I think, the main thing for me is to support the effort, especially if it leads to more in the future given the long list of guys not on terms with WWE. I ordered the Meanie two pack and Aldis from JB Toys on Instagram and he had said that more figures were in the works. He wasn’t able to speak too much on those figures, but, I asked if he could say if they were classic era or modern era and he was able to say that it was both. So, that’s pretty exciting! Here’s to hoping we can finish off the bWo and get Big Stevie Cool and Hollywood Nova. I’d love that I didn’t have access to ECW when it was actually around, but given the number of ECW talent not being made by Mattel due to WWE (probably) then they could potentially reach-out to some big names to build their brand with the obvious target market of fans who were teenage Attitude Era-fans that grew-up with the Hasbros. They could potentially try to talk to the likes of: -Raven -Sandman -New Jack -Sabu -Shane Douglas -Perry Saturn -The estate of Chris Candido -The estate of Mike Awesome -Terry Funk? I don’t think he’s had a Mattel in ages Maybe even guys like: -RVD -Tommy Dreamer -The Dudley Boys? D-Von works for WWE but might not have a legends deal without Bully Ray. Maybe can throw-in Spike as well? Just think how much fun a series of these guys could be in the Hasbro/Retro style - maybe Francine and Beulah can become the first female stars in that style? Or a prime Tammy Lynn Sytch might attract some attention

I love the look and the style. I did enjoy the classic figs we got from the Mattel Retros and I also enjoyed the modern superstars. I do have a lot of nostalgia for the attitude era and ECW era. I’d love some WCW guys, too. All of the ECW guys you mentioned would be amazing! Or just imagine how great a Mortis would look next to a Raven! Or even a Vampiro with a Muta! Man, my heart can’t handle that kind of speculation. LoL. With the Mattel Retro line going on hiatus, it’s been kinda lonely waiting for cool stuff that interests me as I don’t collect any of the other wrestling products. But, the possibility of getting more retro styled figures has my head spinning.

But, the possibility of getting more retro styled figures has my head spinning.I know exactly what you mean - since making that post last night I couldn't stop thinking about how they could potentially line-up a series of unattached ex-ECW guys as Retros. I expected to draw-up two series, but ended-up with five sets and a few guys left-over. Obviously hugely unlikely Chella Toys could have the resources to do anything like this fantasy line-up, but screw it: it's a fantasy line-up. Plus them having been able to secure Blue Meanie means we can dream a little. I thought one female in each series together with their charges, big names in each (particularly the first series as that would be the one to grab everyone's attention, hence RVD and Tammy for their WWE fans), and then settled into including teams or factions. I tried to provide a bit of balance for the budget, e.g. RVD would have expensive deco, so he's in the same series as Chris Candido who obviously wouldn't have expensive deco. So here's what I came-up with using unattached ex-ECW guys: Series 1Tammy Chris Candido RVD Sabu Mike Awesome New Jack Series 2Francine Shane Douglas Terry Funk Big Stevie Cool Hollywood Nova Tajiri Series 3Beulah Tommy Dreamer Raven Steve Corino John Kronus Perry Saturn Series 4
Woman Sandman Jerry Lynn Bubba Ray Dudley D-Von Dudley Spike Dudley Series 5Dawn Marie Lance Storm Justin Credible Roadkill Danny Doring 2 Cold Scorpio Other than Terry Funk and D-Von Dudley (maybe Lance Storm?) then I don't think there's anyone there who might not be available. Woman is obviously a potentially controversial one since obviously you could fully respect if her family didn't want anything to do with wrestling ever again, but now that they have begun working with Pro Wrestling Tees on Woman merchandise then maybe they'd be open to it. WWE will obviously never go there, which is incredibly unfair as clearly she has done nothing to deserve having her legacy forgotten. Then you've got potentially guys like Super Crazy, Mikey Whipwreck, etc. Avoid WWE-owned ECW trademarks (do they still own the Dudley name?) and they could do something interesting here.

I would buy every single wave. Man, how awesome would it be to have the Triple Threat in Hasbro/Mattel Retro scale? I love your line ups and would shuffle some figs around, just out of personal preference. But, maybe the Franchise would be best served in series 1. And maybe move the Impact Players a little higher up, if no WWE issues. And my preference would be to get Raven sooner. LoL.
But, one omission (imho) would be Masato Tanaka. He may be under contract with a Japanese wrestling promotion but you can’t have Awesome without Tanaka.

I missed ECW in it’s time, but I’d love any and all of the stuff you guys are mentioning! Just pump out as many retro-themed figures as possible!

So...I wonder if this is the year for a retro return 🤔
With all the other retro style figs on the horizon, this could be the best year for wrestling figures....but of course....may well not be 🤷🏻♂️

We all hope so -- I really hope they do this right and give us mainly retro wrestlers in the line-up -- esp. since they were by far the best sellers, even according to Action Figure Attack

Since Mattel seems to have given up on the whole retro idea then maybe Jazwares will do it instead. With AEW Unrivaled selling like crazy it's probably a guaranteed hit if they do it right.

Yeah judging by how Chella toys & Zombie Sailor seem to being having success/interest in ‘retro style’ figures, I can’t imagine an AEW line would be a flop. Which is why I’m wondering whether Mattel will try to capitalise on it & relauch retros this year...🤔

Yeah, I'd like to see some AEW retros but I'd much rather see Mattel get back into it with the WWE legends. In my opinion they should try to do it more Hasbro-style than before. Such as the different colored cards every series or 2 (I really didn't like Mattel's dark red cards for series 3-6). The retros are what got me back into collecting and will probably always be my favorite line Mattel has ever done, so I really hope they reboot this line soon. There are so many options for them to make these a success like series 1 & 2 were. If it's true that the WWE/MOTU line took the place of the retros then we probably have awhile before we even hear any talk of retros coming back, if at all.

The problem with the line returning remains - as far as I can see - the question of where they will be sold; without a retailer willing to take them on then it’s a non-starter. We can see Mattel aren’t interested in doing a crowd-funding venture since the demise of Matty Collector so that avenue isn’t possible clearly - the WWE team don’t have anything up on Mattel Creations; Mattel have tried some crowd-funding on their Mattel Shop web site for other lines but not with WWE (I don’t think they even have any WWE stock actually sold through the website rather than just linking to other retailers that carry those products), suggesting they have made a conscious decision not to try that with WWE products. Maybe it’s a contractual restriction, but regardless there’s no place for Retros there. Ringside can’t do everything so can’t be blamed for not taking-on the line; we know they are supportive of the line in general. The UK e-tailers are also very supportive of the line, but no sign of grouping them together with Ringside to get something moving there. The UK websites have enough of a battle on trying to get Mattel stock that they actually already ordered to be launching an exclusive line. WWE Shop continue to use the Retro/Hasbro graphics occasionally in promotions, but the closest they get is carrying a damn Retro toaster Have they ever carried Mattel figures on there? They have those knock-off Micro Brawlers, suggesting there is interest from their customers in figures and collectibles, but again no sign of movement there. So that’s back down to Walmart and Target, and we know how that ends - they can’t even seem to get Elites and Basics on the pegs despite those lines apparently being in the three top sellers in the market, what hope is there for another smaller line added to the Masters, the Wrekkin line and whatever else Mattel are offering? Plus I think the Mattel-WWE contract must be getting down to the wire at this stage, unless a renewal has been announced that I’ve missed? If not then there’s not much time left to get the Retros back on the pegs given how long such things take to get going. Let’s hope Mattel are preparing to reveal a big return for the line soon...

The contract was supposed to end in 2021. However,2 years ago a rumor circulated all over that the contract was extended until 2025. It has been asked but AFA and Bill have never confimed one way or another.

Seems odd that they wouldn’t announce it, but I guess if the contract was running-out then we’d probably know by now which company would be taking-over the licence, Hasbro or whomever. Also given the general quality of products, Mattel clearly aren’t in “dying days of Jakks” mode yet which might be the best sign of hope we have for the Mattel relationship carrying on

FYI - If you have a Go! Calendars, Toys & Games store at your local mall you may want to check them out. I went to one today and was shocked to find Series 7. All they had was Angle and Sheamus but it was still pretty cool seeing Retros in the wild for the first time in over a year.
They were listed for $15 each but the toys are 50% off so for $7.49 it may be worth checking out if you didn't get one or just want an extra. Of course this is the same series that was at Walmart for a good period of time in first half of 2019 that most of us probably already have.
Also the lady at my store said they were closing for good tomorrow so may want to be quick and look since that is mostly a seasonal store at malls. But that closing date may also only apply to the one at the mall I went to.

It's a shame Mattel couldn't get these guys into UK stores like they did with the last two waves into The Entertainer - those two waves certainly proved there is some demand for the line here but it's never that easy apparently.

Yeah -- but those were two of the best waves: Goldbust, Macho Man, JYD, and Diesel. Series 7 would probably have sat on shelves in the UK too...

So, Hogan is back on with Mattel products.. How about relaunching Retros with a Hollywood Hogan?
