Appreciate the points about actions. Ultimately, in my eyes, it falls into the same bucket as some other proposed “wants” like thicker cards and 2-packs. All of it comes secondary to the main WANT - the long-term survival of the line.
With the line now firmly in the hands of Steve and Bill, I think there is a great feel at the top for what is needed for this line to be successful. If the line returns with the same cardbacks, or no actions, or with online only distribution, I’ll assume that was a decision made to give this line the best chance to survive.
The only real “wants” I have for the return of the line:
1. Survive in perpetuity as a 4th “main line”. Ultimates, Elites, Basics, Retros. Would I like 40 figures a year like Basics? Yeah. But I’d rather have 8-12 figures a year for X number of years than 40 in one year and then it blows up again. That’s the “Ultimate” model and if that’s where Retros fall, so be it.
2. Access. Access. Access. I hope the line is available to all collectors (worldwide) without any limits. If I want 15 Mean Genes then by damn I should be able to get them. That said, quantities and demands are probably the toughest data point to nail with these figures. Hopefully there is an easy path for all.
3. Throwback nods and Easter Eggs. We saw a few of these in Series 8, 9 and 10. Green Macho. Diesel. Even Goldust to a degree. Steve mentioned in the Q&A thread that they “want each fig in the line to be meaningful”. Jarrett, Lex, R&B Valentine, Announcers, Vince, female characters, larger body molds, better executed versions of errant Hasbros (Rick Rude)… that’s where you can butter your bread for a while.
4. The only “greedy” want… Another ring… WITH A CAGE. If you grew up on Hasbros and had that ring, there’s a 99% chance you had a homemade cage. ESPECIALLY if you had the LJN cage. There was no way you could go from having a cage in your fed to not. Mostly due to the custom craze created by the MWFP, the Retro Ring became fire hot in its closing days. Quantities of 30+ would hit Amazon and be gone in minutes. Releasing the ring, with a cage and some creative stickers would be well received. If this line is healthy, could see this as more of realistic want next Summer as opposed to now.

Yeah, I agree with that!
I’m starting to get darn pretty excited about the SDCC reveal.
I missed the bit about them being ‘meaningful’…..really gets the mind going 🤔
I think Rick Rude has become my latest no. 1 want; really hard to make a top drawer custom of him due to no parts being quite right.
And I hadn’t really thought about a new ring, but would be a good addition - and definitely be cool if it had a cage!

Hey Steve - quoting this in case it was overlooked: Sorry. I thought I had answered this already. All figs in the line will have an action feature including Mean Gene and any hypothetical follow up suited figs. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Actions are not going anywhere! Love it.

Do you guys think there will be any modern retros? I am torn. I’d really like some female figs like Becky, Charlotte, or Sasha, but on the other hand-for the line to live a nice long life-I think it’s best if the retros are kind of a tribute to the past. Sherri and Miss Elizabeth would be fantastic additions though.
I’d gladly buy a Drew, Lashley, Fiend, among others, but it seems like too many modern figs were the downfall of the last run. Thoughts?

I highly doubt it will be strictly legends, but I also think it will be far more legends than current wrestlers. Chances are we'll definitely get a Fiend retro as well as a Drew McIntyre. I wouldn't be surprised if those 2 are already in the works. I'd actually love to see a Friend retro as well as a Rey Mysterio.

I expect there will be current guys again, but we don't yet know enough to really guess. The impression I got previously was that the balance between current guys and legends was ordered maybe by Walmart or WWE rather than Mattel themselves, but there was that theory that Mattel wanted the line marketed to younger kids hence the inclusion of current guys so heavily, so who knows where the truth is there. But now we have a successful Legends line at Target, and the Masters line seems to be mostly legends, so perhaps Steve is having more success arguing the case for legends-heavy selections in lines that obviously warrant it? I expect we'll see the 2:2 split between legends:current again, but maybe they'll weigh it 3:1 in favour of legends? Dare we hope for all legends? Seems less likely, but with Steve in control then we can be optimistic right now I think. Females should be a definite, with Sherri and Miss Elizabeth leading the way. Then Alundra Blayze to match-up with the Chella Bull Nakano. But after them, then I'm not sure where they'd go - Luna has never been available, nor have Sable or Sunny, so I guess the next stop would be Trish and Lita? The female roster in recent years has been on a different level compared to previous generations, but I'd guess we'll only see a few legends women in the line rather than mass numbers. Going into SDCC 2019 I was sure they were going to announce the first female Retros; lets see if 2021 is actually that year.

Drew is a good candidate anyway, but because of the kicking action they can use for the Claymore, it seems even more likely. They can put a Drew head on the Sheamus body and boom, done (though I'd prefer one of the larger bucks for appearances on my shelf).
Which brings me to my only beef with action features: they're prioritized too much. It's like Mattel worked backwards from the action (make the character fit the feature instead of the other way around), which may be what Hasbro did, too, but when Sheamus is the same size as HBK or half your shelf is jumpers, that's not so good. I guess if they'd used larger bucks for the kick and jumper figures (or at least larger legs for jumpers), it wouldn't bother me that much.

Steve did say “every figure will matter” or something to that extent. And I don’t think we can argue that series 3 was the first significant nail in the coffin. Any modern figs need to be significant, at least to attract non-collectors

If they do current stars, and they probably will, I hope it's true stars and not just wrestlers that happen to be on the roster. So Drew or Lashley is good but not, say, Baron Corbin just because he's never had a figure. I feel like that happened before.
Good thing is a lot of the current stars already had figures (though they've probably changed their look since then).

Mattel - Current figures? How about Kevin Owens #3?
Series 3 absolutely massacred any chance this line had the first time. If “every figure will matter” there damn sure better be a Lex Luger before they start putting in Fin Baylor type guys.

I just want to be able to buy these in the UK without jumping through a bunch of expensive and pain in the ass hoops.
I freaking love the major WF pod, but hate when they say us fans need to support this line. I would love to, but Mattel made it impossible after series 3 for us here in the UK.
Hopefully it will be all nostalgia based and if they have learned anything from their first attempt it will be. However 2 modern and 2 retro split is more than fair in my opinion if the WWE or stores are putting pressure on them to have modern guys in it too.

Thinking out loud here-a Brother Love retro would be pretty cool, and very possible! I think this is possible, and I actually think he is going to be one of the new “first time in the line” legends announced. I think Mattel will be smart this time around and fill holes left in the Hasbro line that are under legends deals. Purely thinking of it as a business they will make what will generate the most income. It is well documented that a big mistake they made the first time around was they targeted retros at a kids market not a collector market that would have grew up with Hasbros. If your a kid and seen an elite Seth Rollins and a retro one you would more than likely pick up an elite but to an adult collector these retros tug on the heartstrings. I am so excited about this line going forward. I don’t think we are prepared for what they are going to produce to make up for the previous releases.

I hope you're right, but I really don't think Mattel are going to pay as much attention to the Retro line as they will to Basic and Elites, that is where their main money lies
if they want to do the Retro line right, they need to focus on the adult collectors and create figures that reflect that retro vibe like classic stars, but throw in the current stars that we either didn't get right first time (a decent Seth, Triple H and Goldberg for a start!) plus Attitude Era figures like the APA or D-X etc

I’m expecting 3:1 or 4:0 Legends to current. We don’t want current roster figures. Mattel has shown that they understand that with MOTU. I expect these to be no different.
I’m also not expecting to get any first time in the line characters via retro. If they don’t have an Elite, or are seemingly done getting Elites right now, like Pillman, then they’re not on my expectations list.

Vietnam flashback series with new dust collecting / line crippling technology. Includes price increasing stand.
