The 1995 King of The Ring was the worst PPV on record and what was worse, Mabel won the 1995 King of The Ring, and what was also worse, the WWF Championship was not defended, and what was also, also worse. Fans chanted ECW because they were in Philadelphia. Here's what I'd change about the 1995 King of The Ring, Tatanka and Bigelow should have not main evented with Diesel and Sid. Here's my card for the 1995 King of The Ring. My Elite Eight would be this, Mabel, Kama, Tatanka, Bam Bam, Razor, Helmsley, Undertaker and Michaels. The quarterfinals would be this, Shawn vs Mabel, Bam Bam vs Tatanka, Razor vs Kama, Undertaker vs Helmsley. And here's how I would do this. Shawn will defeat Mabel, Tatanka will defeat Bam Bam with a distraction from the Million Dollar Corporation, Razor defeats Kama. Helmsley defeats Undertaker with intereference from Kama. Then in the non-tournament matches. Owen and Yokozuna will defend the WWF Tag Team Titles against Lex Luger and The British Bulldog with Bulldog turning heel on Luger and joining Camp Cornette. Also, Jarrett will defend the Intercontinental Title against The 123 Kid, also you can have Savio Vega and I.R.S. in the free for all match. And then go back to the semifinals with Michaels taking on Tatanka and Razor taking on Helmsley. Michaels and Razor both win their matches and advance in the finals, In two non-tournament matches, Bret defeats Lawler, and Diesel retains the WWF Title in a No Disqualifaction, No Countout match against Sycho Sid. Shawn vs Razor is the 1995 King of The Ring Finals, they go for 25-30 minutes with Shawn hitting a third Sweet Chin Music on Razor after Shawn kicks out of 1 Razor's Edge. After the match, both men shake hands and Shawn gets himself a title match against his buddy Diesel at Summerslam. So that's my changing of the booking. What would you change about the 1995 King of The Ring?

Tournament should have went like this....
Mabel over Undertaker
Lex Luger over Yokozuna
HBK over Kama
Owen Hart over Davey Boy Smith
Mabel over Lex Luger
HBK over Owen Hart
HBK over Mabel in the finals
It would have been a much more solid tournament line up for stars, and fans would have gotten what they wanted... HBK winning KOTR!

Start with EVERYTHING then simply just work your way down.
If they wanted to further Mabel as a credible heel threat, have him lose via DQ to HBK where he beats the crap out of him post-match. Maybe a few steel chair shots followed by like a dozen leg drops as a sea of panicked referees surround him. HBK is forced to miss the rest of the KOTR tourney which ends up being won by The Undertaker because Vince owed him at least that much for the crappy booking he had to endure back in those days.
That would have worked in 1995 and didn't require giving Mabel the crown. The crowd was already hot on Shawn so Mabel would've gotten some good heat if he took him out of the tournament. Call me crazy, but a short-term HBK versus Mabel feud could have been a better option. Shawn would have bumped for Mabel and made him look like a million bucks even though HBK comes out of their angle with the decisive PPV win.
Diesel and Mabel were never going to have a good match because of their clashing "big man" styles. I know they wanted someone monstrous for him to go against since he was a monster himself, but Kevin Nash always worked much better with smaller opponents. However, the problem with him being your babyface World champion is that he was never going to get any crowd sympathy wrestling guys half his size. It put them between a rock and a hard place.

I don’t understand the love affair for Mabel. As a performer the guy never once impressed me. So for me he wouldn’t have been in it. But if he had to be in it he wouldn’t have gone past the first round.

I don’t understand the love affair for Mabel. As a performer the guy never once impressed me. So for me he wouldn’t have been in it. But if he had to be in it he wouldn’t have gone past the first round. I'll never understand why Mabel kept getting re-hired so many different times. He was kind of fun during the first few months of MOM but once the rapper gimmick didn't really get over and they didn't have any great storyline or backstory they just sucked. For as un-famous Oscar is compared to them, I thought Oscar was so much better than the other two. But again, I'll never understand why Mabel kept being re-hired. I'm guessing he was a company man, was liked in the locker room and did what was asked no matter what. He was like a Crush or a Kama, never really did much impressive but was liked and did what was asked and kept being brought back when they needed someone. I personally would've had Savio Vega win the tournament considering how much they built him up and he would have been much better than Mabel. Or as many have suggested over the years have a heel Bam Bam win it and challenge Diesel. They didn't even have Mabel win the tournament to automatically challenge Diesel. They started that the next PPV. |

If I remember my rebooking of 1995, the King of the Ring was won by Razor, and the main event was World Champion Diesel against IC champion Jeff Jarrett with only the World title on the line. It eventually lead to Diesel turning heel before Summerslam to have Razor Diesel at Summerslam.

Bigelow would've been my choice for the crown. HBK on the other hand could've been in the main event tag with Diesel against Sid/Tatanka.It would've tied in with HBK returning to get revenge on Sid all the while reuniting with Diesel.
As far as Mabel goes, his push still boggles my mind. To think of his role as a clown at SSeries 93 to the main event of SSlam 95 is crazy.

I'm sure the same people who didn't like Mabel as king bought his latest action figure. I actually don't mind that he won the tournament, but yeah the overall card sucked. I would have had a title match, given Shawn Michaels a better opponent, and not had the roadie in the tournament.

Mabel to me was kinda like King Kong Bundy. He was just a rather large guy that had enough talent to get by but was only purpose to put over a bigger name. Mabel winning the King of the Ring was just a boost before being fed to Diesel at SummerSlam.

I read that the reason they pushed Mabel as much as they did was because he was so much larger than anyone else they could have thrown at Diesel.

The thing is, the heat Mabel had after winning was perfect. It was exactly what WWF wanted, and it worked. Sure, he was never going to be champion, but this was a perfect heel win in my book.

That summer, Diesel was wrestling Yokozuna at house shows and dark match TV tapings and yet we don't get Diesel vs. Yokozuna at SummerSlam in 1995?? That would have made so much more sense.

What are you talking about?? The feud hadn't even started yet.
The Diesel/HBK vs. Camp Cornette feud started in September of 1995.
Diesel and HBK were feuding with DiBiase's group until Mabel came into the picture for a month in August.

Diesel and HBK were feuding with DiBiase's group until Mabel came into the picture for a month in August. You're right, I got my time line mixed up. My bad. But I still maintain that Yoko was done as a main event singles heel by that time. Looking back, Mabel had a good look at the time both as a heel and a face. Reminded me of Notorious BIG. He definitely needed different ring attire though. Would have made a big difference IMO. |

BBB turns into an absolute savage and beats the snot out of everyone post WM11 and on the run into KOTR95. He goes through at 123 Kid,Luger & Razor to win the tourney. CLEAN.
In one night they make him unstoppable. He then squashes someone at the July PPV en route to SSlam 95 to face Diesel. Turning Bam Bam face after WM was massive mistake....
he already had Hart, HBK, Luger, Diesel, Taker & Razor as faces....he needed top level heel fare. Bam Bam was it....and his excuse was perfect...he was raging over LT beating him....

You know that would've worked, have Bam Bam break away from the Corporation, have that Bad News Brown lonewolf Bad News had back in the day from 1988 through 1990 when he left and just basically win the entire thing, they wasted so much on Bam Bam that he wasn't given enough credit, sure an Intercontinental Title reign would have been good, and a WWF Title reign could've worked as well, but ever since he was dumped by the Corporation, his push was a "jobber to the stars" role, I think Bam Bam could've done so much better, him being a face just wasn't working, Bam Bam would've been the obvious choice over Mabel, I think Bam Bam's attitude after WrestleMania 11 should've been "I don't need nobody, I don't need the Million Dollar Corporation and I don't need all of you fans, I don't need Dibiase pushing me around, i'm going to be the face of the company and I'm going to prove it by coming after every WWF Superstar that you desire to cheer for, And that could've started Bam Bam's destruction to the #1 Contendership for the WWF Championship. |

Hogan was my champion as he was to many others at that time.
Wwf needed to push talents who could raise doubt in Hogan. Sorry Hbk fans. Enter King Mabel.
I switched to wcw with Hogan. I hated the new gen era but I loved king Mabel
