I was at Target today and found this random figure for sale. It’s by a company named Marty Abrams and they had a bunch of other random people like Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Lee in the set. Does anyone know anything about these? This figure looks absolutely horrible!

They are selling this, Muhammad Ali and other retro television shows. Andre is just one of their celebrity figures.

What is wrong with me that I want to collect them all. That specific headscan makes me think of the old Ringmasters Andre that never came out.

I thought this Andre figure was actually kinda cool. He would more or less be in scale with current figures. And he comes with a belt and a chair.
I If I wanted an Andre figure, I would think about picking this up.

Cool story. Sorry a retro figure doesn't live up to your expectations. At least get the company name right if you're going to bash.

Ever heard of the Mego Corporation? The Mego Corporation was founded in 1954 by D. David Abrams and Madeline Abrams and became huge in the '70s: producing licensed action dolls (Star Trek, Happy Days, the Dukes of Hazzard, KISS, ...), they also made Micronauts (Takara's Microman). The Mego Corporation went defunct in 1983, in July 2018 Marty Abrams (son of) restarted the Mego Corporation producing a limited run of clothed action dolls in 1/9 and 1/5 scale. This very figure was discussed in January 2019, right before it's release: Mego Andre the Giant Coming To Target. Back then I already remarked:

The figure itself is decent. Was not a fan of the chair or the belt

I would have rather Mego did like their '70s Hulk and compromised by making him shorter than he should be with extra bulk, instead of trying to make up the extra height with a giant head.
I'm generally a fan of Mego, but this one is kind of a dud.

I love all things Andre and was excited when this was announced, but couldn't convince myself to pull the trigger.

This one still looks a gazillion times better than the one Jakks released with the singlet and kneepads... The first Classic Superstars figure, when they just reused the R3 Big Show body. Super lazy, and a sign of Jakks things to come. But in their defense they were probably working under a strict budget because the company wasn't convinced a line focusing on legends and throwback attires would work. I also saw the Mego Andre at Target and passed, but mainly because it just doesn't fit anywhere in my collection. I own waaay uglier figures!

I agree that the Andre from the first Classic Superstars wave is probably his worst figure ever.
Even if they were under a tight budget or whatever financial restrictions, it is horribly inaccurate. Andre never wore a double-strapped singlet. He also never wore kneepads or black wrist tape.
Not complaining because of a lack of accessories or a questionable face scan. Just a bad figure all-around that was an easy pass. And that Classic Superstars line was like crack for me those first couple of years.

I don't disagree with you and I'll admit I still bought it because Andre figures were scarce at the time. But with so many different releases over the years, this one is underwhelming for me. I think I'll pass and hold out anticipation to see what Super 7 comes up with.
