but it's not (end of title)
In one sense, right now is the biggest time in pro wrestling history. Biggest deal ever with SD on FOX, huge shows in Saudi Arabia, Linda's former role in the presidential cabinet, Trump's former role in WWE and place in the Hall of Fame, AEW on TNT, the return of the XFL, Kane as mayor of Knox County, TN.
And yet, it all feels manufactured. The content still isn't as good as it was during the Attitude Era (other than maybe AEW). I know a lot of what I mentioned doesn't have to do with content, but they are little occurrences that would seem to show pro wrestling is reaching levels it never has. It's higher than ever, yet it's not high at all.
The Attitude Era didn't really have any of the above items, and yet it was still pretty much the hottest point in pro wrestling history. I enjoyed Bray/Rollins last night, but that's an exception, not the rule.
This should be the greatest era in pro wrestling, but it's not - why not?

Since 2009, very little effort has been put into creating new stars or compelling programming. Almost everybody is a .500 wrestler. The WWE's Hollywood comedy writers are writing for an audience of 1. There are more people who used to watch wrestling than who currently watch wrestling.

This should be the greatest era of wrestling, but it's one of the worst. Personally, AEW's product hasn't done much for me...yet. Plus, it's like WWE doesn't care anymore. In addition A TON of performers lack character and sincerity

I'm loving AEW and NJPW right now. So it works for me. I've cut ties with WWE viewing, and I enjoy wrestling a lot more now.
Try it over here with me on the good wrestling side. The water is fine.

Todays fans turn on their favourites once they're successful so it's difficult to create a great era when todays stars are getting unfairly booed for no reason.
People complain that the WWE doesn't listen to their fans but no matter what WWE does they can't win.

wwe is in a similar position as wcw - not in terms of overall risk of being killed off by a network or wcw 2000 creative disasters, but the stagnation of creativity that a corporate wrestling environment can force on the product.
hopefully wwe shakes it's product up a bit.
that said - it IS in some ways the greatest era - in terms of accessibility, indies are almost returning to a territory foundation and there's a lot of places that pay well that as a wrestler you can work. the industry is thriving.

My point is when you divorce yourself with what you dislike with WWE, you can enjoy wrestling a lot more. Is it the greatest era? I dunno. But there is a lot of good wrestling.

Dean Ambrose is a good example as to why WWE is failing to create stars. When he was in WWE, I didn't care about him but now that he's in AEW and revamped his character, I've been becoming more and more of a fan of his.

It absolutely is a great era in pro wrestling IF you really step outside of the WWE bubble and take in what's taking place elsewhere. I've never enjoyed wrestling this much probably in my life (at least since I was a kid in the early 90s) but it's because I've found products that I really love. New Japan RULES; its main events (starting with a few years ago) are unlike anything I had really ever seen. These first five weeks of AEW are the most I've enjoyed an American wrestling product since the first year of Raw back in 1993. I don't get the chance to watch as much All Japan or Stardom as I would like but the Kento Miyahara/Jake Lee match from last week blew me away and is the best match I've seen all year -- watch it here: Stardom has unreal good women's wrestling, and I can watch it all for like $5 a month. I did Wrestlemania weekend for the first time in my life and it was one of the best weeks of my life -- even though I hated mania itself, I went to four other unbelievable shows and meeting all of my old favorites at Wrestlecon was a blast. There are all sorts of other flavors too (NXT, Impact, even though ROH is in a rut it's still a fun house show product, Dragon Gate, etc.) This is all really, really good stuff -- but you can't just sit and hope to see it only on your TV every week. That's the big difference. It's like when you first find out that there's a ton of really great music that isn't played on the radio all the time. It's there, you've just got to look a little deeper and put in a little bit of effort to find it.

NWA Powerrr trumps every wrestling show out there.... period! It brings that old school style back to wrestling. I like the interviews and then have a match routine.

Wrestling feels so good once you start watching the last stuff and get out of the WWE approved trough.

This is a great era for those who want more wrestling on TV/free internet. You got Raw, Smackdown, NXT, AEW, NWA. If you have AXS TV, you have Impact, Women of Wrestling, NJPW. When it comes to viewership and overall popularity in wrestling, this is as low as it gets since 93-95, and it could get lower, because after all the excitement of everything new, from SD on FOX, AEW on TNT, NXT on USA, NWA on Youtube, everything is going down in viewership since week 1. EVERYTHING! So depending on how you see it, it could go either way. I'm gonna watch what I like without trying to sound cool cause "I don't watch WWE lol". I only watch NXT, I follow RAW and SD through highlights on their Youtube channel, watch what I'm interested in. I watch AEW and NXT, and that's even burning me out a bit because it's too much in ring work, not enough storyline building. NXT at least has the advantage of me following it since 2013 that I pretty much know the majority of the wrestlers there. AEW is doing a bad job IMO building up anyone who's not involved/associated with Jericho or Cody. So, just enjoy what you like, ignore what you know you're not gonna like.

Talent wise no "era" has come close to this one. There is such a deep list of talented pro wrestlers it's insane and the best part is if you don't like a certain product there plenty of alternates.
