I mean seriously, Do you see Cody as this Top Guy he's booking himself as? He can bash all the thrones he wants, and walk around with sledge hammers, while his wife holds some position she isn't qualified for, and do all the press conferences he wants, it's not working.
The only thing he has in common with Triple H is they both have * next to their careers, due to family ties, be it blood or marriage. Cody is entitled, and spoiled. Now. But when a real promoter had their hands on him, for over 10 years, he couldn't get past the popcorn match. Only time he was in main event situations was when they were trying to give him rub, be it as part of Legacy, where he was the #3 act in the group, or in Legacy's fued with DX. Orton was already a star then so you can throw him in too.
Now he gets some mark to pull strings to start up a promotion, getting "the" indy darlings and a super over veteran to join him, where he fancies himself as the top guy, as well as the booker/"EVP of Talent Relations" titles as well, which in WWE, are not surprisingly held by who? Triple H. (Booker of NXT, EVP of Talent Relations; COO)
Yes he's Dusty's son, yes he's a good hand in the ring, but I know NO ONE who will buy a PPV because Cody Rhodes is in the top match. Or because he's in a gimmick match. Or in any match. He should enjoy this road he's on, it's not going to last long, and he'll be selling insurance with Ted Dibiase Jr in some podunk town in the middle of nowhere down south.

I don’t understand the vendetta. you can see the guy is over. he’s been over with the wrestling scene outside WWE in a big way since he left it.
all these “I know no one will buy a ppv with Cody blah blah blah”...is incredibly similar to all the people who doubted AEW would make it this far in the first place.
and A LOT of those same doubters were some of the MOST EXCITED for the figures announced and were quick to preorder.
these were also the same people who thought Ambrose would fall on his face and there’d be no difference to him and Mox. and boy were they wrong.

Is the question really asking if CODY is in the stratosphere the likes of Austin, Rock, Flair, and Hogan occupy? I've been critical of CODY for "Haitching it up" now and then (the extravagant entrances, originally having Brandi break kayfabe to be the supportive spouse, etc) but yeesh.

For AEW, yes! I think it's hard to question. In the grand scheme of things, he isn't anywhere close to Austin and Rock. I also don't think HHH is either, I wouldn't include HHH in the same list as Rock and Austin like you did.

Right now, the top guy of AEW is Le Champion. I would classify all the other featured singles wrestlers as top Stars, or top contenders, but the top guy is the GOAT with the Gold. I agree about Triple H not being on Stone Cold Steve Austin's and the Rock's level. HHH is just a step below. I do, however, feel that Chris Jericho is a level above Austin and Rock. After all, this happened.

Jericho's easily the biggest draw AEW has, but Cody's saddled nicely in the #2 spot.
Obviously he's not going to ever be on an Austin/Rock/HHH level, no one in AEW will be. It's why they're #2.

You get a #2 promotion, an actual rival to WWE. Cody is a large part of the reason why it's working so well. I don't understand the heat?

I don’t see anyone on Austin/Rock/HHH’s level in WWE either.... I think they’re number two because they, you know, just started. against a company that’s had international dominance for over 50 years and unrivalled for the last twenty of those.

Did Cody piss in your cheerios or something? This post is filled with so much unwarranted hatred it's unbelievable.
No one is on Austin or Rock level today. Not anyone in WWE, not anyone in AEW, not anyone anywhere else. However, this does not mean that Cody is not a top guy in the promotion he is in or he is not a reason for their success in the early stage. He has been part of their brand since the beginning and helped establish them and put them on the map as an actual alternative to WWE's television dominance. Cody vs. Dustin, Cody vs. Jericho, and now Cody vs. MJF; these are all matches that serve as defining moments in AEW's short history and some that established Cody as someone that can play a top guy (and be a great good guy) successfully on a big stage. He doesn't even need a championship to maintain his status either, which is tremendous.
He has a bright future ahead for him and AEW, so I doubt he'll be an insurance salesman anytime soon.

He's over. Don't believe me? Listen to every f**king live crowd since AEW launched. He's a star.

I think we're getting being over, and being in the actual Inner Circle of the greatest Professional Sports Wrestling Entertainers of all time mixed up.
Cody is A top guy in AEW. So is Kenny Omega. So are the Young Bucks.
Chris Jericho is THEE top guy in AEW. The nameplate on the AEW World Championship Title Belt says so. If I ever own a replica of it, I'll have the nameplate read Le Champion.
In my opinion, the GOATs of this business are Jericho, Austin, Rock, Angle, Flair and Hogan. Cody is not even 2 levels below this "Inner Inner Circle"...yet.
As far as HHH goes, he's just on a different, much more exclusive Circle altogether. My list are the Heroes and Villains, Vince is the Grandmaster, Triple H is the Collector.

But he's not booking himself to be the top guy. He literally made it so he can never be THE guy and win the main title.

Isn't this just a matter of opinion? I like Cody and his matches, though he isn't my favorite wrestler in AEW. Cody deserves all the accolades and respect for what he has accomplished in creating AEW, getting a pop like few do, and being the rare xth generation wrestler (of the current crop) that did actually not flame out. Even Cornette gives the man his props...

I mean seriously, Do you see Cody as this Top Guy he's booking himself as? Yes. It's not the same as being a top guy in the major promotion, but he's fine as a top guy in a second-tier company. It's not like there's much competition - Kenny Omega has fallen pretty flat as a weekly TV performer, Dean Ambrose has swapped a gasmask for an eyepatch to continue his ZOMG WACKY~ persona, and Chris Jericho has rapidly become a fat old alcoholic (who is tremendously entertaining, but is more of a Kenny Powers type comedy character now). Cody is at least in shape and shows some passion and poise. His booking of himself has often been the best part of the show. There's way too much overreliance on using Dusty's name for cheap pops and sympathy, and I'm not a fan of his weird albino dye job, but that's a minor quibble. His storylines have been pretty damn compelling. Cody isn't the greatest wrestler or talker, yet his angles and matches and presentation all make him look like a top guy, and his performances have kept up their end of the deal too.

Its pretty clear that Cody is the a top star, and would be in any company right now. He's turned himself into a star over the last four or five year since leaving WWE and has main evented and headline everywhere he's been.If he would have resigned with WWE instead of starting up AEW he would be towards the top of the card now in WWE,basically think the push Drew McIntrye is gettind during his 2nd run would have basically been Cody's.
As far as him compared to the likes of Austin,Rock,Flair,Hogan,Sting,Savage,Taker...ect that not really fair as nobody in the current wrestling landscape is on their levels. But being the co star along side Chris Jericho as the main guys in AEW in the 2nd biggest wrestling company in the world is still saying alot in terms of how most view him now.

In less then 20 weeks of television, Cody Rhodes has cut MORE "money drawing" promos then Triple H has in his entire career. I'm 100% sold on Cody Rhodes as a legit main-event star.
