A top guy would have an action figure or 2. THE top guy would have 3 figures before anyone else.

I always saw him as a potential top guy. For me he was the standout of Legacy. I actually thought DiBiase sucked and everyone else (especially the company) seemed to think he was the guy. In my eyes he proved over and over again that he had the ability to be the guy. Yes he's a little small, but he's great on the mic, and has continued to prove that he can excel at any role. I actually think he's only further proven his capability to be the top guy since AEW began. In my opinion he's so far ahead of all of the other babyface in terms of psychology and emotion that it's not even close, although there are absolutely better in-ring performers. I already think he's an incredible heel, so in my eyes he's one of a very few guys who is as good of a face as he is a heel. In that regard I would compare him to guys like Hogan, Austin, and Rock.
Although THE top guy of AEW is Jericho, he's presented that way and rightfully so. I really think he should retain over Mox, but that's for another thread

Outside of the WWE? Yes he’s a “Top Guy”, but as a WWE performer he’d never be considered a true top guy. Hell but even now the WWE doesn’t have a true “Top Guy” on their active roster. The ones they (WWE) have are part-timers in the twilight of their careers. (Triple H, Cena, Orton, Brock, Angle, Taker) Guys like Rollins, Roman, McIntyre, Wyatt are all a notch below and I would put Cody on or a little above their level. Jericho and Cody are AEW’s top guys, but I truly believe within the next two years Hangman Page will be AEW’s Top Guy.

He's no where near Austin or Rock but he's the best pure babyface in wrestling right now.

I had my reservations initially but everything Cody has done in AEW is gold imo. I absolutely view him as a top guy.

He's quality he's drawing putting over talent his match with Darby Allen put him on the map, he got an awesome match out of his brother Dustin that Wwe were too scared to give us and he solidified MJF as imo the best heel in the business. And he hasn't had to book himself as World champion as others have.

I wasn't sure about Cody after he left WWE until I saw it first-hand. Went to an ROH show and there was a single meet and greet line that circled all the way around the entire building ... it was for Cody. I know because I got in it by accident because it was so long that I assumed it was where you had to wait for everyone ... nope, just him. No one else came even close. Waited like 90 minutes for nothing, lol. His game has risen like 1,000 levels over the past few years. Incredible promos, a five-star match with his brother. And they did like over 100,000 pay per view buys for their first couple of big shows, which is insane in this day and age. He's OVER. Just because you don't personally like him, that doesn't change the fact that he's OVER. What more do you need? EDIT: I re-read this and think we've been had by a parody. I mean, who could actually write something like this with a straight face? lolololol Yes he's Dusty's son, yes he's a good hand in the ring, but I know NO ONE who will buy a PPV because Cody Rhodes is in the top match. Or because he's in a gimmick match. Or in any match. He should enjoy this road he's on, it's not going to last long, and he'll be selling insurance with Ted Dibiase Jr in some podunk town in the middle of nowhere down south. I bought Sunday's PPV to see him and MJF. So there's more proof about how wrong you are, lol.

Cody is like his dad (with the exception that his dad would book himself in as the best while Cody is willing to put guys over), so I see him in that Booker, authority-like role as a babyface, and as a major competitor. As the No. 1 guy no (top sure), that is Mox and Jericho, with MJF behind them.

Well, no. Right now the top guy is Jon Moxley. Before Revolution it was Chris Jericho. Whoever holds the AEW Championship is considered the top guy in the company.
But if we're talking purely based on popularity rather than kayfabe rankings, Cody is definitely very popular. No matter your personal opinion on him, he consistently gets the loudest cheers out of anyone else in the company. That can't be disputed.
Personally, I think the fan reaction to him is absolutely earned. In my view, he consistently puts on some of the best matches in the company from a psychological standpoint, rather than the spotfests that most AEW matches are. He absolutely oozes passion, and that in-ring promo he put on in the run-up to his match against Jericho at Full Gear was probably the best in company history. Not to mention, he has one of the greatest entrance themes in all of pro wrestling history.

Jericho's easily the biggest draw AEW has, but Cody's saddled nicely in the #2 spot. Obviously he's not going to ever be on an Austin/Rock/HHH level, no one in AEW will be. It's why they're #2. Cody is good. Not on omegas level. Omega is the best wrestler in the world

Omega is the best wrestler in the world Omega might be the best wrestler in the promotion (Pac & Fenix are right up there with him), but that doesn't make him the top guy. I think Jericho is an undeniable ratings star and Cody is the top babyface. Contrary to how the other US company books talent, multiple people can be over and receive pushes at the same time. lol I'm not the biggest fan of Cody, but I think if he's not THE top guy he's tied with other people.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Cody should have been a big star in wwe. They underutilized him, he asked for his release(so he’s not a wwe reject), and has been a top guy for every promotion he’s wrestled in since leaving wwe. I remember everyone saying how underutilized Cody was when he was performing as Stardust. Basically that was a Goldust ripoff. How’s he supposed to get over like that?? I don’t know why the OP hasn’t defended his comments? Was this trolling for the sake of it and because he/she is a mod can get away with it?

The problem is they're a machine that chews people up and spits them out, not a star making machine. It's refreshing to see Cody booked like this in AEW and gives me a lot of faith that they actually can build stars.

The only reason Cody is over is because he's telling you that he is over. I like Cody, I think he's decent in the ring but come on, anywhere else he wouldn't be a main event. He is a solid mid-carder. Hell, nearly everyone in AEW are mid-card at best, except Jericho and Moxley. These two are mega stars and should be.
It's funny, I deal with a lot of indy wrestling people who always get upset when the owner of the fed they are working for books themselves as the top guy or his friends as the top faction in their feds. But yet, when Cody and the Bucks and Omega do it, they are the smartest and greatest minds evaahhhhh!!!! Tons of wrestling "fans" would always rip on Dixie Carter for having her daddy buying a wrestling company, but when Tony Khans dad did the same thing, it is the THING THAT WILL CHANGE WRESTLING FOREVAAAAAHHH!H!H!H!H!H!H!H!H!H!
AEW won't go anywhere, and that's good. But to sit there and say all these guys are MAIN EVENTERS DUDE! It's asinine.

Those guys have the potential to be big stars in wrestling without wwe.

After a couple of months he would be right back to the midcard. As of right now, MJF, and Adam Page are still mid-carders at best. I like MJF, I think his gimmick is amazing and his promo skills are really good. However, in the ring? He still needs to work on it. In the next 5 five years he'll become a main event guy, just not right now. Give the kid time to grow. Adam Page? I don't see it. Sorry. Again, maybe in the next couple of years he can work on everything and then I'll see what I think. Luchasaurus??? Come on. lol.

He left WWE in 2016 and was still a main event guy all the way through the creation of AEW. He won the NWA championship at All In, was RoH champion and still in the RoH title scene up until his departure from that company. New Japan he wasn't quite a top guy, but to be fair basically no one WWE has could hang as a top guy there that wasn't already a top guy there or in RoH. True WWE developed guys aren't anywhere near the New Japan level either. Also, did you seriously say everyone but Moxley and Jericho are mid carders at best? I think Kenny Omega would like to have a word with you...

The top guys are set, young guys are being built up for future runs, and the Elite aren't booking themselves at the very top. Anyone who's been to one of the PPVs know how over guys are. To his credit, Cody is one of the most over guys in the company.
