With Kenny's input for this game, and with Cody teasing earlier this year that fans want a certain "style" of wrestling game, (hinting at No Mercy), I think we're going to see one of the best wrestling games produced in the last decade if all goes well. Also apparently there was a reversal in VPW2 where you would get german suplexed, but you would roll backwards out of it and run toward your opponent and hit them in the back of the head with a hard running knee strike. How sick is that?

One of the many awesome reversals in that game. Among the other features they took out for No Mercy. VPW2 is AKIs gold standard. Glad Kenny says it and not No Mercy.

I like VPW2 but I want the AEW game to be more like HCTP honestly. I ing love that game. It's got an arcade feel to it while still being a wrestling game. It's like the perfect in between, imo.

I know you're not a big fan of Kenny as a wrestler and that's cool, but I'm confident you can trust his opinion on making a good wrestling video game haha

Got it after seeing the little girl match and his WK match in like 2016 or 17.. Hearing what he said about VPW2, was awesome to me then. I ordered the cartridge version of VPW2 from a website on 2000 when I was 15. Printed a 160+ page translation guide off gamefaqs in computer class in school. For Kenny's love of VPW2, I've never doubted that AEWs game is going to be the bee's knees.

Copied from another forum but a mini-update nontheless: AEW referee Aubrey Edwards was Chris Jericho’s guest on the latest installment of the Talk is Jericho podcast. During their discussion, she revealed that she is involved in the game’s development. Edwards was not sure what she was authorized to reveal, aside from saying that the game is “very, very early on” in the development cycle. “It’s definitely a way’s out,” she said. AEW Executive Vice President Kenny Omega, an avid gamer, is also involved. Edwards says the two of them talk a lot about the project. Chris Jericho asked Aubrey what makes a good wrestling game. They know expectations are high. “It has to kick ass.” They are listening to feedback and will give the people what they want. They spoke about the importance of a robust Create-a-Wrestler suite. She spent several years working on mobile games and believes that experience will help AEW deliver a great product. Her gaming console of choice is the Nintendo Switch. She likes that it affords her the flexibility to play from home or while on the road traveling. This bodes well for a Switch release of the AEW game. thanks for the update. had you not posted this i would've never known. anything involving aubrey outside of refereeing a match is an easy pass for me. can't stand her lol. Of course, somehow, Aubrey Edwards just HAS to be involved...

In another smallish update, Kenny finally spoke on the AEW game:
Omega, who is also an AEW Executive Vice President, noted that the video game is in a very preliminary phase but that they're working as an "incredible pace."
"Oh, absolutely. Right now everything's in a very preliminary phase," Omega said. "I can't talk too much about it, of course, because I really want to have something of material to show people when the time is right. And we're working at such an incredible pace right now. I think maybe we'll have something to show sooner than what people would expect. Not saying anything playable, but at least something to show people."
Regarding the gameplay, Omega said he wants to recapture the fun from the classic WWF WrestleFest, WWF No Mercy, WWF WrestleMania, and Virtual Pro Wrestling video games.
"And for me, I believe there needs to be a sense of being in the ring, that you're controlling your favorite wrestler or controlling your create-a-character," Omega said. "But it's not so much a simulation where the movements are slow. I want to recapture the sort of fun factor that we used to have back in the day, whether it be WWF WrestleFest, WWF No Mercy, WWF WrestleMania 2000, Virtual Pro Wrestling 1 and 2. I want a very simplified system that allows for pick up and playability. However, I want the moves and the structure of the game to be so crisp and the potential for it to be deep, to the point where you can have a match that actually resembles something of a pro wrestling match where the moves look the way they should, the characters move the way they should.
"But at the end of the day, a game needs to be fun. I want a game where I can take my favorite character and do all of his moves and decimate my opponents. But I want to be able to call over a friend that never games and with a very simple explanation, I want him to be able to pick up a controller and be able to feel like he's in control of his movements and his destiny as well. I don't want people to take the literal words from this to assume what the game is going to be like. But one thing I appreciate in a fighting game, like Street Fighter, it's got a very difficult entry barrier to play at a top level. It's almost impossible. You can't be a dude off the street and do it. It takes a lot of practice time and a lot of grinding. You have to be like a math magician on the spot to calculate frames and advantages and all that. When people assume control of their favorite wrestler or their latest creation, I want them to feel like it's not difficult to do the moves they want to do. I want them to feel like they can perform the way they want to perform."

I say take all the time you need on the game.
Just for reference, remember, they put out a TNA video game in 2009. It was a piece of trash and it didn't sell well. It never got any followups, and it was a huge disappointment.
Take your time and make it awesome.

It was hot, burning, boiled trash. www.metacritic.com/game/playstation-3/tna-impact!

make your own opinion sir. I mean it's a opinion that a majority of gamers and wrestling fans agree with me on. TNA and Midway torpedo'ed that game. It was an embarrassment.

The TNA game ruled, it was just super limited. I wish they could have done a sequel and built on what they started with that one.

Since we're kinda just on video games in general, how many people here have tried fire-pro? I've looked at it, and the amount of community content is really exciting to me, but there seem to be so many upgrades that you can easily end up spending $150 or so getting everything to be able to make good use of the creation community.
Also, WCW Backstage Assault was really bad, but I think WCW Thunder still gets my vote.
