Kenny Omega is in AEW so I figured I'd put this here.
Jim Cornette hates basically everything in pro wrestling after 1989, anything not territorial and sports-like. To some degree I get it. He’s against the cartoony gimmicks of '80s WWF, radical violence of ECW, the unrealistic moves of TNA and ROH, crazy storylines anywhere, wild flips anywhere, and the work of the Young Bucks and Omega today. But when I watch Omega/Okada, Meltzer’s seven-star match from NJPW Dominion 6.9 - a match Jim Ross also loved - I don’t see crazy spots or unrealistic flips. What could Cornette have against the good stuff Omega does? Wrestling a kid and a blow-up doll I get, but what’s wrong with Omega’s good work?

Cornette is just the old man yelling at the kids on his lawn. I think it's a personal thing because Omega has had some awesome matches

I don’t see crazy spots or unrealistic flips. What could Cornette have against the good stuff Omega does? Wrestling a kid and a blow-up doll I get, but what’s wrong with Omega’s good work? Do you listen to either of Jim's podcasts? Just asking, because if you do/did, you'd not need to ask another's opinion on Jim's thoughts/feelings. Then again, I'm an official member of the Cult of Cornette, a Cornette School of Wrestling Knowledge Patreon subscriber as well as a listener to each of Cornys shows, within the hour they drop. I'll give it a shot. Let me preface by saying I both like and dislike Kenny Omega. Do I think invisible man stuff is the absolute dumbest crap in the entire world? 100%. On the other hand, I 100% enjoy the match he had versus the young girl. It's a masterpiece. Could a grown man have knocked her out with one punch and won? Yup. The character he was portraying in that match wouldn't do that. He was being the.. "cocky, I'm so good, watch me just toy around for a minute," ...oops got caught with a fancy spinning reversal! Brilliant. It's not so much that Cornette hates his "good" work. Cornette is of the opinion Kenny Omega has no "good" work. Cornette did not watch the Okada matches, or the Jericho matches, etc. Cornette has seen Kenny wrestle invisible people, blowup dolls and young children though. For that, he will automatically disregard anything Omega does, good or bad. Cornette has seen Omega on AEW, multiple times, while reviewing their shows. I have to agree with Cornette here, the finger wagging, hand shaking and absolutely absurd facial expressions are the epitome of phony. I know, I know... A poorly executed Irish-whip is phony too. If you expect to enjoy wrestling, an Irish-whip being somewhat illogical is something you just file away in the subconscious though. The gesticulating and emoting Kenny does though, personally takes me out of his current run of matches. I can assure you, it annoys Jim as well. That said, I'll give credit where it's due, technical holds, hard hitting offense, all that "pretty stuff," anyone can actually do if they just learn it.. yeah, he's okay at that. Sorry my opinions are intertwined through the post, wasn't sure how to try and articulate how I've heard Jim feels without also relating to my own observations and feelings.

Cornette hates everything after 89? I’m sure he loved SMW from 92-95 and OVW from 99-05:)
Cornette doesn’t take Omega seriously because he had a competitive match with a nine year girl and had a match with a blowup doll. Both are very stupid and kill the business. Jim can’t forgive him for that no matter how “awesome” his matches are. He also thinks Omega has “jazz hands” lol.

Personally his opinions don't mean anything to me, so I don't really care what he has to say about anything.

Cornette is a shock-jock at this point. He's so full of sh*t and says really, really deplorable things. Even if I agreed with him on something, it wouldn't change the way I felt. F*ck that guy. I honestly hope I never hear his sh*tty takes or his name ever again. He brings nothing positive to the table. He's an absolute piece of sh*t bottom feeder.
Omega can be a bit much sometimes, but he's been one of my favorite overall wrestlers for like a decade now. His WK and Dominion main events against Okada are my litmus tests to see if I can talk wrestling with someone. If I'm talking to someone who's seen both and didn't like them, I don't care about their opinions because their taste in wrestling is so far from my own.

I'd actually say that the matches you're talking about take a ton of skill to pull off and very, very few can do it. Those don't define Kenny's career, instead I'd argue they point to his overall talent.

They are good matches, but I've seen better as to my personal taste. I think it's our generally level headedness that has allowed us to coexist so well in the AEW threads despite my Corny-fandom. Glad though and I hope it continues.

I’m a fan of Cornette, but the dude is a work. just like JR. Don’t be confused by thinking that their public persona’s adhere strictly to their actual real life person - this is wrestling. we’re still talking about Cornette in 2020.
the fact that Cornette or Russo are in any way discussed still relevantly? yikes

A 9 year old shouldn’t have a competitive match with a grown man. That’s more unrealistic than David Arquette being world champion.

I always wondered why does Corny have 2 podcasts? I listen to Drive-Thru, and enjoy it, but is there a need for another? What can any one person talk about for 4/5 hours a week?

Did the crowd enjoy the match? Hell yeah. Is wrestling subjective? Hell yeah.

Also he genuinely does hold grudges with people hence what happened between he and Santino in 2017.

Jim says alot of zany/wacky/stupid ish because he knows it'll bring in the clicks; while his feelings towards wrestling in the current landscape may be true; it just wouldn't be profitable enough for him in the long run if he don't over-exaggerate as often as he does

He just likes to hear himself talk and needs to stay relevant.
That said, if he truly never watched the Okada match then anything he says about Omega is pointless and he should just move on to another topic.
