Great show tonight! About the MJF vs Jericho segment, being that I like broadway musicals and MJF and Jericho are so good I liked it. The same people who didn’t probably loved the Jericho/Owens stuff, The Rock concerts, and the original This Is Your Life segments. Or some of us didn't because they were prolonged bad attempts at humor. I'll take Steve Austin smashing Vince in the head with bedpan over a sing along. I'll take Sirus' one-liners over poorly written and rehearsed skits. I like watching for wrestling, not forced humor.

I actually have a lot more respect for people who can be huge fans but actually point out when there are flaws. Every wrestling show on the planet has flaws, Wwe certainly does, New Japan, Impact, ROH, and yes even AEW has flaws. People that try to say that you aren’t a fan cause you don’t like something on a particular shows drives me insane.

I didn’t say If you didn’t like that segment you aren’t a AEW fan, but that segment was comparable to classic stuff from the past.

I think the thing that bugged me about the segment is it didn't really advance the story at all. Like we know they're gonna do this town hall thing next week, but this segment didn't really help advance the story of it all.

I didn’t say If you didn’t like that segment you aren’t a AEW fan, but that segment was comparable to classic stuff from the past. Right, but I don't think everything from the past was gold. I've always had a conflict of interest with humor and wrestling. I don't watch wrestling to laugh the same way I don't watch a comedy to see wrestling. You often times have bad actor wrestlers acting out poorly written material by people who don't write comedy. It's a recipe for disaster, and often is. I loved Rock promos where he was just sh*tting it on the mic at someone more than I liked his 10 minute long sing along with The Rock concerts. One happens in the flow of a wrestling show, the other interrupts the wrestling show and tries to be a comedy segment. I thought MJF calling the waitress "Thelma" and Jericho correcting him and saying her name is "Velma" was HILARIOUS given Jericho's history of intentionally calling people by the wrong name. A great line that got lost when the singing and dancing came along. It's unnecessary overkill.

I've been a wrestling fan for 36+ years now at least. There's maybe a handful of skits and moments that has either defined an era or entertained me to no end. I still hold TNA's Jay Lethal's "wooooo-off" with Ric Flair as one of the best segments ever, but seriously guys, Jericho/MJF duet might have topped it all for me. That was incredible!
P.S. Rey Fenix is NEXT LEVEL
everyone gives Mysterio respect as a legend and Mistico originally came in with such fanfare in WWE, but damn I've never seen a luchadore so fast like Fenix - the absolute best!

Great show tonight, possibly the best since the pandemic started, IMO.
I loved the MJF/Jericho segment. Not everyone's fave, I'm sure, but it was no more cringe than anything Kenny Omega did with his entrance. Also, any time JR talks.
Penta/Fenix was awesome (they would destroy with a TNT Title feud), and I thought it was every bit as good as the Omega/Pac Ironman, and the street fight from a few weeks ago. One of, if not the, best match on Dynamite, IMO.

AEW not pushing someone like Rey Fenix is frustrating. There's more upside to him than many who get much more focus.

when are people going to realize that wrestling is a show. It's not UFC, it's not the Olympics, it's a TV show. You're going to get amazing stuff like Fenix vs. Penta and promos like Mox/Kingston and then it's going to balance with the absolutely ridiculous stuff like Jericho/MJF.
Wrestling isn't just about 60 min iron-mans with 536 near falls only, it's a male soap opera with some interesting and well-thought out storylines and misses. Jericho/MJF is intriguing and it will lead to a payoff.

Amazing singing from mjf aside, it didn't really do much to give me more interest in their story.

I personally felt it was over the top, one of the few times it's been embarrassing to watch with my gf looking on. that said, I loved Kingston tonight and several of the matches - fenix/penta, wardlow/jungle, three way tag - were excellent. if I have a craving for serious wrestling there's always NXT UK. AEW still hits home with serious big feuds pulled off well, so my interest hasn't lessened.

That's interesting because, 9 times out of 10 my wife (who isn't a wrestling fan) comes in the room every time I'm watching WWE and there is always absolute cringe on TV. I mean I feel embarrassed as a fan watching some of this stuff when she is around. Yet tonight I was laughing my head off at Jericho/MJF and she came in the room to see what it was all about and thoroughly enjoyed the segment too. It's not for hardcore wrestling fans, but tonight's show was the right balance for mainstream TV.

I think there's ways to have humour that tie into and add to the product - say stone cold with the beer truck or even angle with the milk truck - and then there's what we saw tonight, completely breaking the fourth wall and winking at the audience with tongue in cheek gags. I don't really think that's necessary for wrestling to appeal to the mainstream, but that's just my take.

Jericho/MJF is intriguing and it will lead to a payoff. When are you going to realize you don't have to just be satisfied and accept the "misses?" You admit something is "ridiculous" and then just brush it off as part of the show. Why? What kind of expectations are those? If you think something sucks you're allowed to say it sucks just as much as you're allowed to say you think something was awesome. I hope so anyways. Wrestling can be good and bad. That's not a secret. You're not ahead of the curve. Not everyone is willing to watch a show and clap everything off just because they're a fan overall. Not everyone nods and smiles while they watch wrestling, so there's no reason to think they should post on here like they do. I think Jericho/MJF will be a big payoff, but I definitely don't think they need to be singing and dancing on the way to getting there. They were just trying (failing) to be funny. It was an unfunny "comedy" segment on a wrestling show. What was supposed to be the outcome there? The fans think they're both funny? We already know that because they're funny on the mic. We don't need a comedy skit. They could have added a match. Had some of the matches go a bit longer. I would have been fine with more Lucha Bros. Brian Cage could have mauled someone in a match and gave the FTW title some cred AND THEN Taz does that promo. They could have cut that waste of time dinner segment and done a bunch of other things to make the wrestling show even better. But they went for singing and dancing instead. That's not what I want to see when I watch Dynamite. Wardlow smashing the smaller Jungle Boy. Kenny Omega returns with a huge bang. FTR tries to break the Buck's ankle. Moxley and Kingston are talking about killing each other. Penta and Fenix are slapping the living sh*t out of each other. Oh, and Chris Jericho and MJF were singing and dancing........... No thanks.

Eddie should win the belt and build to a program with Pentagon.
Instead we will get Mox vs Omega in an underwhelming sequel to their last match.

The reception seems to be pretty positive overall. aew has always been about having something for everyone, and there certainly is a large portion of wrestling fans that enjoy the silliness at times. I love comedy in wrestling and crooning but that segment really missed for me. I'm not that stressed about it though if tons loved it that's awesome. I want more women's stuff on dynamite and I know plenty will complain about that, just like some hate Omega, some hate FTR, etc, etc. It's a big variety show not everything's gonna click with everyone. It got good reception with the crowd it was speaking to, so it's a big success. If the crowd that likes silliness all hated it, it would be a failure.
