Detroit loses shootout thriller to Columbus DETROIT – Detroit welcomed fellow division rival Columbus into what turned out to be quite the thriller. An even match throughout the game, as Columbus and Detroit ended every period tied, including the 3rd. Unable to get anything going in the OT, the game ended up going to a shootout. The wings scored twice, but unfortunately Dominik Hasek let in goals on every attempt, leading to the loss.
"I'm disappointed" said Hasek. "I really don't have any excuses, I just didn't get the job done."
The offense got a fair amount of shots, but couldn't put more than 2 in the net. The defense was hitting hard all night, and managed to frustrate Columbus early.
"I thought we played great" said Wings coach Mike Babcock. "It's just one of those things you know? We'll be fine."
Detroit will try to rebound after another day off when they head to Chicago for yet another division battle.

Game 17: Sunday, November 11th 2007: Final Score: Detroit: 4 Chicago: 1 Game Stats:_________ | Detroit | Chicago | Score | 4 | 1 | Shots | 30 | 19 | Hits | 41 | 30 | Faceoffs | 15 | 14 | Time on Attack | 11:11 | 4:24 |
Detroit easily handles the Blackhawks in Chicago DETROIT – Detroit went on the road for another match-up with division rival Chicago tonight, and easily disposed of them. From the get-go, it was on for Detroit as Nicklas Lidstrom scored just 20 seconds into the game. The Wings put up another goal before intermission, and Jiri Hudler put up 2 of his own in the 3rd period. Hudler finished with 2 goals and an assist on the night.
"It's always good to contribute like this" said Jiri. "You gotta take the opportunities when you get them."
The offense came out relentless, and stayed that way through 3 periods. It was quite an amazing display on the ice. "It's great to be able to get that kind of intensity out of everyone for 3 periods" said captain Lidstrom. "It's not an easy thing to maintain."
The defense dominated tonight, and Hasek only let one goal slip by in the 3rd period. With over 40 hits on the night, I wouldn't be surprised if Chicago was left a little demoralized after being beat up all night.
Detroit travels to take on another division rival in the St. Louis Blues when they head down on the 13th.

Game 18: Tuesday, November 13th 2007: Final Score: Detroit: 4 St. Louis: 2 Game Stats:_________ | Detroit | St.Louis | Score | 4 | 2 | Shots | 38 | 23 | Hits | 29 | 31 | Faceoffs | 13 | 18 | Time on Attack | 13:46 | 4:12 |
Wings get late offensive flurry to defeat St. Louis DETROIT – In what's sounding like quite a redundant statement, Detroit traveled to face yet another division opponent. However, this time was a first, as they matched up with the St. Louis Blues.
The defense struggled early, giving up 2 goals in the first period to St. Louis. Nicklas Lidstrom managed to net 1 before intermission, which left the game at 2-1. However, the momentum shifted when Henrik Zetterberg scored the tying goal on a powerplay. From there, Pavel Datsyuk came up big once again, scoring 2 assists to propel the Wings to a 4-2 victory.
"Things seem to be clicking right now" said Datsyuk. "I'm seeing the whole ice out there, kind of like a better vision of things you know?"
"This is what championship teams are made of" said Wings coach Mike Babcock. "When you are able to come from behind in a hostile environment, that really says something about this group."
Detroit heads back to Chicago on the 17th for another rivalry game as the Wings look to break the season tiebreaker.

Im really enjoying this franchise as well.
I decided to go ahead with one, the Ever So Lowly Toronto Maple Leafs, and I find it great that Washington Capitals is in the top five.
