Made perfect sense. Triple H went over every WCW Monday Night War main eventer after they came to WWE. Big Show, Benoit, Booker, Nash, Goldberg, Steiner, Flair, and Hogan (probably DDP too but can’t think of a time when they wrestled). Why would he ever put over Sting in a match that meant nothing? His ego wouldn’t allow such a thing to happen. Hogan went over HIM for the belt. Yeah but HHH got his win back, kicking out of the atomic leg drop, and beating him clean.

While it's unfortunate we never got that coveted Sting vs. Undertaker match, I'm generally just glad we saw Sting in WWE in any capacity. I'm probably in the minority but I look back pretty fondly on his match against Triple H despite the finish. While I do wish Sting won, it doesn't bother me all that match that he lost since he was in his mid-50's and it wasn't like he was going to have a lengthy run in the company. While I agree it would have been great if Sting won, I don't really think either guy needed that win. I think the same way about his match against Rollins too. Even more unfortunate that he injured his neck in the match, but the match itself was actually quite good up until that point and it was nice to see him get a shot at the title.
All that to say, I think WWE did all they could with Sting (booking notwithstanding) up to his injury. After that I don't think they had much use for him aside for merchandising. He went into the HOF and if he could no longer take bumps based on WWE's medical standards then all he could really do is pop up periodically for random segments. Given his much heavier background in other promotions I'm assuming WWE simply didn't have a place for him since he was really more connected to guys like Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Vader, etc.
AEW has a good niche going where they've been pairing up legends as managers alongside younger wrestlers. That's what has me optimistic about Sting's arrival there since he at the very least can elevate a rising star without the need to get overly physical. WWE doesn't do this, so I can understand why Sting might have wanted to go elsewhere and try something different. Especially in a company that has openly embraced the history of companies like NWA and WCW.

They brought him in to cash in on nostalgia. Nothing wrong with that.
They also brought him in to remind their fans that WWF defeated WCW. At least he put over young talent...like Triple H.
The fact they never did Undertaker vs Sting is pure idiocy. No one can reasonably defend it.

They completely botched his run. Not saying Sting should have wrestled more but the guy is a legend and they could have used him on other capacities to help get others over.

Him losing at Wrestlemania was a poor choice. It still shows how petty WWE was to Sting for being so loyal to WCW.

It’s weird. When Sting showed up in WWE, I was excited. We got some cool stuff and merchandise. But at the same time, when he being used, I don’t really feel like I even noticed he wasn’t there. I was kind of indifferent to his run.
I watched Dynamite and kinda felt the same way when he showed up in AEW. In my head I was thinking “I guess this is cool... Schiavone may need to change his pants, and I wonder how Glacier feels that his gimmick is getting lifted.” A lot of times I do feel like AEW falls into the trap so many others have fallen into of trying to recreate WCW.

Absolute disaster.
Sting vs. Undertaker should have been the very first match. No ifs, ands or buts. And they never shoulda booked him against Rollins given how unsafe he was.

He was misused completely. As others have said he should have had a match with The Undertaker. The fans didn't want Sting to face Triple H at WreslteMania. Plus Sting always said he would have loved to wrestle with The Undertaker. Yeah we got plenty of Mattel figures of Sting and Video Game appearances but it's time to move on. What's done is done at this point.

Sting has said Taker wasn't interested in a match against him. He also said during that 2K panel that Triple H was his second pick as a dream opponent. So it's not like Triple H forced himself into the match against the will of everyone else involved. Sting was supposed to be one and done. And Sting has said that he always believed you "go out on your back" so I honestly don't think he cared if he won or not. He just wanted to check WM off his bucket list. He did.
As great as Sting was, it's not like Vince owed him anything.

At Wrestlemania 31 when Sting and Undertaker could both still go, that is when it should have happened. Bray Wyatt vs Undertaker really made no sense and Undertaker did not appear at any point during the build. Undertaker beat Bray Wyatt after Wyatt lost the previous year to John Cena at Wrestlemania, and those back to back high profile losses REALLY killed the Bray Wyatt character.
Sting vs Triple H....it may have been Sting's second choice, but that wasn't really anything anyone ever really asked for.
If Sting was coming in to lose a Mania match, and he was fine with losing....Sting's WWE career should have been one and done, lose to Taker at Wrestlemania 31, and call it a career...at least in WWE.
The fact that Sting and Undertaker both wrestled on Wrestlemania 31 and it wasn't against each other was a huge missed opportunity.
And Undertaker recently did interviews and was asked about Sting and it wasn't that he didn't WANT to wrestle Sting, he said he didn't want to wrestle Sting and have it SUCK because Undertaker said he wasn't capable of being the Undertaker anymore physically in the ring. He said the idea of Sting vs Undertaker has been so built up and desired by fans for so many years that he'd rather have it not happen and have people imagine how good it would have been than to actually do it and have it suck and ruin the whole thing. Undertaker said him and Sting could have done amazing stuff 10 years ago, especially with their characters and special effects and promos. But I think when Undertaker saying he doesn't want to wrestle sting, he is talking about it in terms of the most recent years, not that he had no desire to do it EVER. I don't see why if both could still wrestle that Taker wouldn't be ok with beating Sting, because we know under the WWE banner that Sting winning was NEVER an option.
At Wrestlemania 31 they were both physically fine and that's when it should have happened. Undertakers BRUTAL (I mean physically, not quality) matches with Brock Lesnar in 2015 show he could still go at that time, and Sting's performance in the first half of the match against Seth Rollins show that he was still capable of high level performance.

He's too nice of a guy to derail a kid's career by laying blame on him. Rollins was reckless and injured Sting with the most dangerous move I've ever seen.

Who looked stronger in their win? Hogan who needed Undertaker to come out and take out the ref prior to getting pinned for the 3 count then lay out HHH with a chair shot to the head allowing him to deliver the leg drop for the win or Triple H who kicked out of Hogan’s finisher, pedigreed and pinned him for the clean win with no shenanigans?

Some of them probably believe Vince had Rollins hurt Sting, despite being his own fault.

The only problem I've ever had with Sting Vs HHH is that neither had their iconic long hair. I find it hard to believe that fans weren't interested in such a match. They are two guys who were on separate sides through the 90's and 00's so seeing them collide or even share a ring was a huge deal.
Undertaker apparently didn't want a match with him so HHH was the next best thing.

I love Sting, but the fact that they brought him in, gave him a high profile WM match, a title shot, and a HOF induction, I think was more than fair considering his age. Not much you can do with a 56 year old man who can't risk taking a bump. Signing a 61 year old version, seems like a worse idea IMO. Surely he isn't at AEW to wrestle though?! AEW's use of legends has been absolutely perfect so far; I can't imagine them suddenly doing something so silly.

never cared a lick about Sting/'Taker....probably would have been cool but i truly dont understand why everyone loses their mind with that match because Sting wore a trenchcoat and painted his face that makes him the equivalent to Undertaker? don't get it at all. you know that Vince wanted Sting after he bought out WCW. but Sting didn't want to play ball because he was afraid they'd job him out. because nobody from WCW ever had any success in the WWE post-invasion anyway, he took his ball and went elsewhere. had much success and left his mark on the industry. at the end of his career he finally wanted to get at least one more big moment (Wrestlemania)....and they used it as an opportunity to tell all the WCW fanboys to go pound sand. Fine by me since in the end, the WWE was left standing and WCW is just part of their tape library now. I would have like to have seen Sting get more than just a couple matches while he still had it. I think we got enough merch, etc. during his time. Its not like he was invisible. Now he's over 61 and going to what? wrestle in AEW? come on. at least Undertaker knew when to hang it up

Guys came and went but Taker and Sting were the constant faces of their respective franchises. Plus the Crow gimmick did have a lot of similarities to the Dead Man gimmick. They were both dark, mostly silent characters that struck fear in their opponents whenever they showed up.
