I'll never forgive WWE for how they used Sting and i'm shocked he allowed it. His match against Triple H was solid but he should have won. Losing to Rollins straight after Rollins lost to Cena made him look even weaker. They should have had Taker Vs Sting when they had the chance - I don't care if Vince was against the idea, somebody should have somehow made it happen.

Blame Sting for his pig-headedness in not wanting to sign after the buyout, and then wasting his time working for Dixie/Jeff all those years. When he finally got over himself, swallowed his pride and eventually set foot in a WWE ring, he was basically finished. Not much you can really do with a broken down, near 60 year-old, who ultimately ended up damn near paralysing himself... although he's probably completely healed now, and able to put on 5 star classics, now he's in the land of milk and honey, where everything is perfect Part of me is a little disappointed (although nowhere as near as when Jericho did), that he's signed on with that lot... but considering he spent so long in a glorified indy promotion - just so he wouldn't have to work for Vince, I shouldn't be surprised he's chosen to go small-time again. At least now, with their acquisition of Sting, AEW's transformation to WCW 2.0 is complete. Even though, it was apparently 'Taker himself who was against the idea?

The WWE books their legends like shit. Sting was just another example.
I'm thrilled he's with AEW because they book legends far better. I'm intrigued about a potential mentorship w/Darby Allin and it wouldn't shock me if Sting wrestles a "cinematic" match or two.

Absolute disaster. Sting vs. Undertaker should have been the very first match. No ifs, ands or buts. And they never shoulda booked him against Rollins given how unsafe he was. Sting has said numerous times that it wasn't Seth's fault that he was hurt. Why can't people believe that? Cognitive bias. People believe the stories of wrestlers when it fits their narrative and ignore them when it doesn't, even though the person telling it probably knows best unless it's been proven they're a pathological liar or the like. Everyone's guilty of it to some extent, some just more than others.

It's also worth mentioning that WWE tried to bring Sting in at WM27 to have a match with Taker. Sting has acknowledged this himself.... "Sting revealed in an interview with the Daily Star that World Wrestling Entertainment officials approached and offered him a match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXVII, as well as induction into the WWE Hall of Fame.
He declined their offer."WWE even went as far as to air those mysterious promos. Then Sting decided to re-sign with TNA. So WWE changed it to the return of Taker which immediately brought back Triple H to set up their match.
That could be why Taker wasn't interested by the time Sting did decide he was ready.

They brought him in to cash in on nostalgia. Nothing wrong with that. They also brought him in to remind their fans that WWF defeated WCW. At least he put over young talent...like Triple H. The fact they never did Undertaker vs Sting is pure idiocy. No one can reasonably defend it. A match between Undertaker and Sting would have not been good if it happened 2015 or after. Undertaker seemed to want to work with people that could go and carry him to a good match. Sting in 2015 would not be able to do that. I’m surprised they had zero interaction with each other on wwe tv!

I love Sting, but the fact that they brought him in, gave him a high profile WM match, a title shot, and a HOF induction, I think was more than fair considering his age. Not much you can do with a 56 year old man who can't risk taking a bump. Signing a 61 year old version, seems like a worse idea IMO. Also he was in a tag match where he made the champ tap to the Scorpion Death Lock.

never cared a lick about Sting/'Taker....probably would have been cool but i truly dont understand why everyone loses their mind with that match because Sting wore a trenchcoat and painted his face that makes him the equivalent to Undertaker? don't get it at all. This was never it. There was a number of "dream matches" between top WCW and WWF stars during the monday night wars. We either got them (Rock/Hogan, Sting/Bret) or they were very quickly never going to happen due to one of the guys being injured or retired (Goldberg/Austin, DDP/Rock). Sting and Undertaker stayed active in business for well over a decade after the MNW ended, and they essentially both became the very last active legends who could still go. Not to mention that each guy very plainly represented loyalty to their company, and they were both among the best gimmicks in the history of the business and they were fantastic workers.

One of the few things TNA did better than WWE was the use of Sting. Maybe it has to do with how long Sting was with each company. Maybe its Vince. Maybe it was time and timing. If Sting had signed with WWE in 2001, and then signed with TNA in 2014, just makes me wish mulitverses were "real".
To work with what we got, I would have loved to have seen:
SummerSlam 2015 Triple H with Shawn Micaels vs. Sting with Ric Flair
HBK was ultimately the reason why HHH defeated Sting at WrestleMania 31. To even up the odds, Sting calls on someone who knows all 3 men very well. Plus, with both Shawn and Ric "retired", having them in the corners fixes that non-issue.
Survivor Series 2015 The DX Army (with Shawn Michaels) Triple H, X-Pac, and the New Age Outlaws (Road Dogg Jesse James and Bad @$$ Billy Gunn) vs. The nWo Wolfpac (with Ric Flair) Sting, Hollywood Hulk Hogan, and the Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall)
I know it would have been the slowest match in the history of history, but the entrances alone are worth the $9.99 for the show.

It sucked. I wasn’t hopeful they’d do right by him in the first place. The Triple H match and story was a mess and made no sense. I’m convinced It was just so Hunter could get his win over Sting. There’s no other logical reason why

I think he served his purpose; WWE and the fans got all their Sting figures, merch and documentaries they begged years for and Sting got a WM match and HOF induction. The fact he got injured sucked but I didn’t expect anymore from him after WM31, it was just cool to finally see him there.

Meh, I’d have to say it was bad. I know Taker didn’t want it to suck, but that was Taker in 2014. Taker has had numerous legacy-tarnishing matches since then, and has looked very broken down in every outing that he’s had basically since then, minus the Cena ‘match’ and the Boneyard Match. I understand his take, but that should’ve been the Wrestlemania 31 match, one and done, and I think that Sting would’ve been happy. Taker looked better than he did the year before, Sting still could’ve gone, it could’ve still been mostly theatrics.
Sting shouldn’t have faced Rollins, or had a title match. If I’d been able to book it myself, he’d have debuted at the Rumble, confronted Taker (who wasn’t there of course, but in this booking he’d be there) probably lead to Taker getting eliminated, and then had the match at Wrestlemania one and done. Or the other way would still see Sting debut at Survivor Series, face Triple H at the Rumble, win, and have Triple H force him to face Taker at Wrestlemania for revenge, and that would be it. My opinion, they missed an opportunity to do something great. This is a case where it would’ve been better to do it than not to. It couldn’t have been worse than Taker/Reigns, Taker/Goldberg, or Taker and Kane vs DX...or any of those times that he showed up with the high-cut shirt to hide how out of shape he was.

Like I said, by the time Sting got over himself, and decided to finally sign, it was all too late.

I never did either, but it could easily fill up a stadium and draw a million PPV buys. But if Undertaker didnt want to do that match, then he didnt want to do it. Who's going to force him?

And make no mistake, AEW bringing him in is also a cash-in. He's already shilling his (rather crappy-looking) t-shirt.

Would have been the match of the year on history alone, but maybe it is good it didn't happen. They have "equal" status still, and are the loyal legends that we will never forget;yes, equal is relative to each perspective. That crowd would've lost it trying to figure out whom to cheer though, and that might have been interesting in its own right...could we have gotten a silent crowd like in Japan?

I am with ya on this.
It seemed like the dream of Sting vs. Taker started during those weird video promos for Undertaker back in 2011. I never once heard before that, "Sting vs. Undertaker!!" anywhere!
Not even during the Monday Night Wars did I hear of those two being a dream match. So I really have no idea why this became a thing wrestling fans apparently wanted to see.

sting called pig headed, fans that think he was misused being accused of believing he was intentionally injured, and the buckle bomb is 'the most dangerous move' one user here claims to have seen. this thread takes the cake for shitfest of 2020
