I was thinking this may be a fun thread. Which toy line was your favorite for 2020, and which was your least favorite? Here’s mine:
Favorite: Star Wars Black Series. I feel like they killed it this year. I’ve been collecting this line since the start, but had stopped at one point. This year, I feel like I’m constantly buying these and at least always have some on preorder. I like how they rereleased improved versions of the older figures and the improvements they made on the figures is crazy. Shining example is the training Luke. He’s got single jointed elbows that have better range than most double jointed elbows.
Honorable Mention: Marvel Legends. Another line I’ve collected for years, but they put out some stuff this year in particular that really hit me in the feels. The Retro carded stuff brought back a lot of memories, and the Deluxe figures are great for BAFs I missed or didn’t wanna buy a whole wave for.
Least Favorite: Spin Master DC. This would probably be better classified as most disappointing. I do actually like the 4 inch figures. I think they’re fun for the price point. I got the first Batman wave, and the general DC wave pretty easy, as well as some of the 2 packs. After that though, I can’t seem to find them anywhere online for retail price. I don’t really do in store toy hunts anymore, so my main issue with this line is I can’t buy it and I’ve completely lost interest in it.
Honorable Mention: McFarlane DC Multiverse. I have kind of a love/hate relationship with these. I love some figures, and hate others. Most of them look cool, but I’m not interested in the character. After collecting DCUC, I was hoping for a wide range of characters, with better articulation and sculpts. For the most part, we get great sculpts and good enough articulation. I think the ball joints in the wrists and ankles are awful looking, though. The biggest issue I have is selection. I mostly found this line to be disappointing because we seem to only be getting Batman and Batman related figures. It’s also mostly designs specific to stories I have no real connection to. Give me good, versatile versions of a wide range of characters first, then get into the more story specific stuff.

I would give a slight edge to Transformers: War for Cybertron over Joe, ML, and Star Wars. Like Star Wars, Hasbro made huge improvements to Transformers the last two years.
I can't crap on the whole line because I have only one figure, but the Jazwares Halo 6" figure I bought was one of my least favorite figures of the year. Soft joints, loose joints, stuck joints all in one figure.

Keeping this non wrestling figures I would say my Favorite/Least Favorite are... Favorite - Spin Master 4” DC This is a very fun line where every time I think I am caught up there’s more new figures.
McFarlane DC - as a Batman fan first and foremost I am loving all the versions we have gotten. I do hope we get a couple more regular versions of Batman. But quite a few of these are in my “Top 10” of 2020.
Least Favorite - Power Rangers I never saw the appeal of that show or figures.
G.I. Joe - some great looking figures but besides the first wave they’re impossible to find at retail. So I have cooled on this line.

Favorite's definitely Marvel Legends and SWBS.
Least favorite like PJ said is Power Rangers and then NECA Turtles. Never saw the appeal in either line. Not knocking whoever enjoys either product, just stuff that doesn't interest me.

I would like to say Masters of the Universe Origins or Masters of the WWE Universe because I'm a MOTU and wrestling guy from way back, but they were way too difficult to find and Walmart canceled preorders and people are looking to retire reselling them on eBay.
So I'm going with Marvel Legends as my favorite.
I love the X-Men, and Hasbro delivered some great stuff there (Age of Apocalypse wave, Nimrod pack with a new Psylocke for those who missed out on her first release, Love Triangle 3-pack, X-Force and X-Factor characters), and offering an improved Rogue, a repaint Gambit, and re-releasing white outfit Storm was a solid move to fans. Then you had figures like Moon Knight, Silver Centurion Iron Man, Red Hulk, deluxe AoA Apocalypse, War Machine, Hulk vs Wolverine pack. So much awesome product for comic fans.
I don't really have a least favorite, unless it's just a line I don't collect. DC Multiverse is impressive in many ways, but I don't care for pretty much everything being modern iterations. And some early releases that weren't modern I would have bought but they came out a bit off (Superman, animated Batman). If McFarlane starts to balance it out or make classic versions, it would become a favorite for sure.

Favorite of the year was Marvel Legends. I'm glad they actually managed to do some of the characters from the X-Men/Deadpool movies. I never thought that there would ever be a legit Hugh Jackman Wolverine released without having to resort to third-party sculpts, let alone 3 releases this year alone. Also, the retro Spidey is one of my faves of the year as well.

Ive never liked Power Rangers since they stamped out TMNT's popularity on day 1 back in 1993, LOL.

My friends and I mocked it, and then proceeded to watch it every day. I did drop it around the time the first movie came out, but the hype got me for a while. Luckily I have no desire to collect it now (I've never owned a single Power Rangers toy). TMNT was huge, too, and I was all-in there from the start. I still have my old figures, though, so I'm not interested in the new stuff.

I was super into MMPR. But when they replaced Jason, Trini, and Zack I started losing interest. Around the time of the movie, I was basically done. I collect the Lightning Collection selectively. I get the MMPR figures, and villains from later seasons. The rangers from later seasons look cool, but I have no attachment to them. I do read the current comics though and really enjoy them. Funny story, once I was at a comic con and saw the Original Red Ranger was there. He didn’t have a long line, so I was gonna go see him. Aside from the original Yellow Ranger, I’ve now met all the original Rangers. Anyway, as I got closer, I realized he was sharing a table with the newer Yellow Ranger. I wasn’t interested in seeing her, and felt awkward only going to see him. So I ended up strategically waiting for her to go on a break while he stayed. He didn’t take a break because he was local to the area and didn’t take time off his regular job to attend. He just attended on his off hours, so he was only able to be there for like half a day.

I thought about getting the Rangers and some villains, but I've been able to restrain myself. Nostalgia is a powerful drug, but so far I'm resisting. And that's a cool story about the Red Ranger. I'd definitely like to meet him in a situation like that. I'd have done something similar to avoid an embarrassing situation for the Yellow Ranger.

Favorite Funko- I've probably spend more money on Pops in the past year then I've spend on any collectible in the last 10+ years.
Neca TMNT- Love the line brings all the memories from my childhood back.
Least Nothing really comes to my mind I buy a lot of different things and I've been happy with about everything I bought the past year. If I had to pick something it would probably be Power Rangers or Star Wars but that's mostly because I've never been a huge fan of either thing.

All former Power Rangers, especially the MMPR cast, make their living off Ranger and Comic Cons now, LOL. That Red Ranger guy disappeared for like 10 years and reappeared when he was told how big MMPR nostalgia had become.

Favorite: Star Wars Black Series
The Mandalorian has reignited everyone’s love for Star Wars. Getting these Mando releases has made me feel like a kid again. Every figure for me has been a slam dunk, sans AoTC Obi. The Armorer and Speeder box set were incredible exclusives. The credits Mando was a super fun release, too. Plus, the Dagobah set and Bespin Luke update are some of the best they’ve ever done.
Shoutout to the Razor Crest and the Mando Retro pre-orders. Easily some of the most exciting 2021 releases coming for me. So Star Wars is in an excellent place.
Least Favorite: McFarlane DC
Stop holding this license hostage. Period. McFarlane isn’t good enough to handle the demand of DC. I have no Titans figures. No Birds of Prey figures. We got two WW movie figures and the proportions on them are laughably bad. How about a Swamp Thing? No. Cool. Give the license back to Mattel.

I later walked past his table at NYCC a couple years later and overheard him talking to a fan about how he went back to school after Power Rangers and got a few degrees and maybe his Master’s. I wasn’t fully paying attention. The Green Ranger has to be the most active at conventions by far. I think I’ve seen him at every convention I’ve ever been to.

Yeah its a lot of lets just say not great people involved in the community sometimes but I guess you have that kind of thing with about any collectible community. I just love the fact I can buy figures of about any fandom I'm into at the time and they all display so well together.
