I've never really heard an official explanation for this so thought maybe one of you lads had some insight?
Was it because the business was cooling off? Were NBC not happy with the ratings?
Seems weird as hell there was only 2 in 92...

Interest in wrestling was waning during that time, especially after Ultimate Warrior was fired and Hulk Hogan left to make movies. Plus, there was the steroid scandal.

The final 2 were also on Fox.

IIRC that first show on Fox in February got a strong rating.Like LA Times said the product was waning.I personally enjoyed em.Nowhere near the greatness of the 80s on NBC but still fine. Could never get into the new theme they gave it during that time though...

The 2/92 show did pretty well with an 8.2(last NBC did 7.7). The 10/92 did 6.2 which I would think is respectable. For comparison sake the final SNME from the revival 8/08 did a paltry 1.4.

With those 92 ratings they still shouldve kept it going into 93 and beyond.Do it the same way with 2 shows a year at Mania and SSlam season.

Great Khali vs. Jimmy Wang Yang, just wasn't the ratings draw they hoped for. Episodes in '93 could've worked. Early New Generation era was a bit strange roster wise as far as big name talent for network television. If it's around Mania they'd still have Hogan to pull from and around SummerSlam you'd hope to ride Luger's push. After that into '94, it gets tougher. Re-watching a bunch of of 93-94 stuff lately makes me disappointed that Savage was mostly relegated to the broadcast booth. He still had gas in the tank as his WCW run showed.

Im going to venture to guess Monday Night Raw had a lot to do with it. Wrestling in the 80s pretty much only had one "live" event in Superstars and Primetime and All-American were pre taped from around different places and mashed into a show. SNME was the only other "live" show and with RAW coming on board to be a live event they likely just phased it out and kept Superstars since it had been a flagship for so many years.

Maybe they thought they did not need them as they had the March To WrestleMania special and sometimes one for Survivor Series and SummerSlam too?

My guess would be Monday Night Raw had a hand in it. But I would further speculate that the introduction of King of the Ring in 93 and the In Your House PPV’s in 94 all but made SNME redundant.

Towards the end of the run on NBC, the ratings were sloping and NBC had acquired the NBA, so they had no need for the WWF anymore. The 1992 era ones did below what were expected, wrestling's popularity was sliding and FOX decided not to renew. Also around this time was the beginning of the sh*t storm that lead to the steroid trial in 1994. There's a lot of factors here, and RAW was not one of them. Several things here: - Superstars wasn't the only show they had taped from arenas where they'd acknowledge each episode was from the same arena. They also had Wrestling Challenge. Neither were presented as "live". - Prime Time past a certain point in terms of matches aired was mostly a combination of the Challenge/Superstars episodes of the previous weekend with maybe an arena match or two thrown in. - SNME was never presented as "live", only the first three Main Event specials on Fridays were. - RAW had nothing to do with the decision to stop SNME. If the show was doing killer ratings and FOX had remained interested, the show would have lived on because it gave you a broadcast show to do major matches on to set up PPVs.

Here's what was written in the 11/30/92 Observer. Dave even speculates this might be the end of the WWF getting network specials since the November 92 show was the worst they'd ever done.

As much as I liked em in the booth, I do wish he continued on in the ring.Another WWF Title run or hell IC title run wouldve been great. Back to SNME, fun fact for you humanoids- the Nov 92 show is the first show I converted over from VHS to DVD years back. Pain in the a** undertaken but in the end worth it.

Well guys if Meltzer said it, it must be true. I mean, you can either believe the actual ing TV numbers he reported on or you can think he's lying about actual TV numbers because you want to be ignorant to what actually happened. Choice is yours and you appear to have made your mind up.

I remember when I got a VCR/DVD recorder combo in early 2007. I spent the next like...three weeks converting every tape I had to DVD. As you said, total pain in the ass but absolutely worth it when everything was done.
