Hey guys thought this might be a fun topic to talk about on here. The rise and fall of a wrestler from o e WrestleMania to the next.
I have a o e of each to get us started.
Demolition WrestleMania VI to VII FALL
I loved Demolition as a kid and at WrestleMania VI the cheers they got at the start and end of their match were only matched by Hogan and Warrior. They were one of the most popular acts the WWF had at the time and them winning their final tag titles at WrestleMania VI was a moment I loved.
Fast forward just one year later to WrestleMania VII and to say that they were a shadow of their former selves is a massive understatement and I say this as someone who liked Crush. They were jobbed out to two guys I would wager 90 percent of the audience had no clue who they were! It really sucked to see Demolition go out like this it all happened in such a short time too. I loved Demolition, but I must admit that I was all in on the Legion of Doom when they arrived and the WWF wasted no time putting Demolition out to pasture.
Steve Austin WrestleMania XII to 13 RISE
Now to be fair the thing Steve Austin had going with Savio Vega was a ton of fun and a damn fine little mid card story. I feel that they had a decent match at WrestleMania XII, but the jump from his position on the card here to WrestleMania 13 could only have been bigger had him and Bret main evented the show themselves!
While King of the Ring 1996 had the Austin train leaving the station. It was his match at WrestleMania 13 that really rocketed him to the top as one of the top guys in the company. He went from being one of the main undercard stories to THE story in just a year.
I would love to hear you guys thoughts on the two I have picked and also a few of your own. Another one that springs to my mind as a fall is Sgt Slaughter from VII to VII, but let me know what guys you feel had a major career shift from one mania to the next.

Fall: Ricky Steamboat winning the IC title in a highly regarded match at Mania 3 and then losing in the first round of the World title tournament without making a dent on history in a forgettable match at Mania 4.

That would have been great if Steamboat beat Hammer and we got Savage/Steamboat II at WM4.

Savage, WM7 to WM8 Savage was retired at WM7 then a year later was crowned the WWF Champion at WM8. I would call that a rise. Savage, WM8 to WM9 Won the WWF title at WM8 then a year later was in the booth as an announcer at WM9, I would call that a fall.

Fall: Daniel Bryan Mania 30 to Mania 31 — You can probably attribute some of this due to his neck injury but he was back for a decent enough time before Mania 31 to have a solid feud. He went from biggest star in the company at the Main Event of Mania 30 beating all 3 members of Evolution in the same night to wrestling in your annual Multi Man “We Don’t Know What to Do With You” ladder match the next year.
Fall: Cesaro Mania 30 to Mania 31 — Winning the First Andre Battle Royal to wrestling in another multi man tag match on the preshow.
Fall: Jericho from Mania 28 to Mania 29 — Going from competing for the WWE Title to losing to Fandango in the span of a year.
Fall: Bray Wyatt from Mania 33 to Mania 34 — Going from WWE Champion to not even being on the card. Albeit cant really blame this one, that match with Orton belongs in the Wrestlecrap Hall of Fame.
Rise: Stone Cold Steve Austin Mania 12 to Mania 13 — Going from competing lower mid card against Savio Vega to arguably the most iconic match of his career a year later against Bret Hart.
Rise: Sheamus Mania 27 to Mania 28 — Going from Preshow match that devolved into a battle royal at 27 to winning the World title in a couple of seconds at 28.
Rise: Edge and Orton from Mania 23 to Mania 24 — Going to group these two together because of the similar initial crap and better end run booking for both. Being thrown into the MITB where they really weren’t needed (neither of them won and they were 2 added people to make 8 contestants where the previous two Manias only had 6) Could have done the Edge vs. Orton feud they seemed to be leaning towards but for some reason didn’t. So going from being thrown in another multi man ladder match (you can tell I love these) to open Mania 23 to going to Mania 24 to both being World Champions and Co-Main Eventing Wrestlemania 24.

Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins from WM 30 to 31 count as a rise? Went from a hastily planned squasher with Old Age Outlaws and Corporate Kane (because someone thought "sure, one of the hottest acts in the company needed to break up" before being talked outta that US Title plan) to the main event for the World Heavyweight Championship.

Thanks for all the replies guys, some great suggestions here.
I never even thought about Ricky Steamboat! It would have been awesome for him to face Savage at WrestleMania IV and have Savage win, but be a gracious winner.
Another one that popped into my mind is Chris Jericho. Granted his portrayal in 2002 was not the best, but he went from opening the show at WrestleMania X7 to closing it the following year.

Great topic man....nearly everything I could think of has been mentioned here. But Ill mention
SCSA: Beats Rock in a super heated & dramatic encounter for the strap @ WM17. Then wrestles Hall in the middle of WM18 in a forgettable match.
LOD: flatten P&G en route to the taggers at Summerslam in a minute @ WM7...not wrestling @ WM8
But when your talking see saw WM folks? Ya have to mention the Macho Man...
Its rise after rise until from WM2 til 5 then fall @ WM6
Rises from wrestling Steele @ WM2 to a losing effort in one of the most talked about matches in the industry @ WM3....
Rises from the super hot encounter at WM3 to winning the Championship @ WM4...
Rises again in a losing effort @ WM5 in the most talked about feud in wrestling....
drops for the 1st time to the midcard in a feud with Dusty
Rises again @ WM7 in the most over match on the card...
Rises again @ WM8 winning the world title.....
Falls off the radar @ WM9 & is in the booth...
Slight improvement at WM10 as he wrestles Crush
