In a lot of shoot interviews a lot of wrestlers talk about preferring to work heel instead of face. Most "turns" in wrestling that the majority of fans remember are heel turns. But can you think of wrestlers that worked both heel and face that just worked better as a face?
I guess the big one is Stone Cold was better as a face than heel, I guess mainly due to creative? I honestly wasn't watching during this time, I just know people hated him going with McMahon.
But what got me thinking about this was Rob Van Dam working as a heel helping Lawler during the WWF/ECW angle. RVD just works better as a face to me.

I never felt Austin as a true “face“. To me when he turned he was a hybrid neither face or heel. He was a grey area fan were cheering him but he was still doing many heelish tactics in the ring.

Sting comes to mind....his heel runs stink to high hell. Honest to God.
New Age Outlaws as heels werent a good fit after they rejoined DX in fall 99 because they still played to the crowd & done their face stuff 🤷♂️
I liked Razor better as a face.

Sting and Davey Boy Smith come to mind, I preferred both of them as faces compared to their heel runs. Bret Hart and Randy Savage both come to mind too, but to me, they were equally great as heels and faces.

Rikishi. Look at how over that man was in 2000 and then look at how much of an afterthought he was as a heel.

I always saw Austin as a tweener and never a true face. He’d stun your ass no matter what side of the good guy/bad guy spectrum you were on.
- Rey Mysterio - RVD -Jeff Hardy - Dean Ambrose - Mick Foley (he was great as a heel IMO but once Foley turned face in the WWF he came off as the ultimate underdog and played the role to perfection) - Eddie Guerrero (similar to Foley, great as a heel but he just seemed to click better as a face where he was able to incorporate heel tactics while remaining a face better than anyone else) - Rikishi Dusty Rhodes

Yeah Austin was above classification imo. But his alignment with McMahon was pure poison to everyone.
Then they repeat the blunder @ Invasion 😳

I liked heel Austin UNTIL the Invasion. He was so heely. Only problem there was no decent babys to challenge him so they had to go back to Taker again. Benoit & Jericho were there but they just didn't build them up enough.

Rikishi. Look at how over that man was in 2000 and then look at how much of an afterthought he was as a heel. With Austin returning there were just too many babyfaces at the time. Rikishi was the odd man out. But as a heel then he just didn't fit into the X7 plans. Odd man out again.

I am not even a fan of his, but Goldberg's heel turn in 2000 in WCW was dumb and it didn't make sense. I remember that was the thing Vince Russo said that Vince McMahon couldn't do anything about it.... well how could he?!?! That didn't help the cause either.

Cena. The fans always wanted him to turn heel but WWE never made him a heel or did they at some point?

I know he does commercials for Hefty, Experian, and voiceovers on Honda ads

Big Show was a better heel in his 2002 championship run. Show as a face has always been campy and just too goofy.

Then they repeat the blunder @ Invasion 😳 I'm on the hating the Austin heel run with McMahon band wagon, but I do say there was a bright side during it, The Two Man Power Trip. If that's how his heel run was, the viciousness and then you still have the alliance with Vince, but it's straight up it's for his obsession to keep the belt at all costs then it could have worked. Take out the singing to Vince, the hugging and all and it could have worked. And to be fair, once they added in Angle with the comedy bits it was funny, but that's all the stuff that killed the Austin heel run.
