Dynamite 4/14/21: Hardy Brand Beatdown

No I generally love AEW and tune in every week. Jim is a caricature at this point of his hate on AEW, but I listen and he is spot on about a lot of their psychology and story telling. Darby is unique and it could play, but he’s out there being absolutely destroyed by guys like Cage and Hardy and so on, and bus size is an issue, it’s not believable. But that aside, the last match was garbage. I mean just outlaw garbage.

I wasn’t a main event fan, I genuinely don’t like matches where they have tons and tons of people run out. I hated it in WCW, hated it in the attitude era and I don’t like it here. Glad Matt didn’t win any gold though.

One of the things I really liked was their use of segments to get people on the show. You obviously can't give everyone substantial time every week but just little things like showing various teams watching the Tag Title match, the Miro/Britt/Elite/Rosa (which also featured Deeb) segments, and the short vignette for Tay vs. Shida are all easy ways to get wrestlers mentioned on Dynamite so they don't lose all momentum by going multiple weeks without being seen.

Only issue I had with the main event was the run-ins really. I dug the brawling and whatnot and I feel that that was a style that Darby and Hardy could work together the best with. Glad Darby won as I feel if he lost it would've cut a reign we're just seeing kick into the next gear short just after the Team Taz feud. That being said I think Hardy served his role as a character and worker perfectly in this match and for the first time in a long time I was intrigued about a Hardy match.

Hell no. I have been saying this for a couple years now Hardy should have retired on the Monday Night RAW after their WM return. He’s been a shell of himself since then. The guy can barely even walk.

I felt the opening match was the match of the night. Personally I felt Death Triangle should have won the titles, but knew that wasn’t happening especially with the YB turning on Mox for Omega. So you know they’ll be holding the titles for a while now.

The Jericho vs Harwood match was probably the second best match. Looks like Jericho was a little leaner around the waist than usual although it looked like his belt broke during the match. But Jericho can still go in the ring at a high level.

I expected a good number but that's way up from what I would have guessed! Hopefully this can keep up!
